thank you so much for reviewing this and realizing how FUCKING HORRIBLE this piece of sequel shit was! Beauty and the Beast was one of my fav disney movies (my only fav princess-y movie) so seeing that they had to fuck up the sequel...or PRE-equal really just really pissed me off...although now I will not be able to get the emo song out of my head for days now... :(

i am an 18 yr old man i watch both the Critic and Chick and Linkara of course and i watch the Chick because she reviews crappy disney sequelsprequels that i watched as a young boy (yes i watched girly movies when i was young but i was 3)besides the Critic does not review that many crappy disney sequels only primary disney movies that in his view suck so when i want to watch disney sequel reveiws i come to the Chick

You are brave, dear sister
And once again, it is pointed out extremely accurately, that these sequels/prequels/ midequels are basically extremely bad fanfiction, together with art that would go down very well on DeviantART but does NOT cut it as official Disney artwork

The Rescuers Down Under doesn't count for several reasons, the most important of which was that it wasn't a Direct-To-Video-Sequel. It was released in theatres in 1990. It was, in fact, and remains, the only legitimate sequel in the Disney Animated Cannon. The films that the Nostalgia Chick was talking about were the awful slew of sequels and prequels to established Disney Classics that were not released in theatres, but sent direct-to-video (read: much cheaper budget and therefore much cheaper final result).
The Rescuers Down Under was released right between The Little Mermaid and Beauty & The Beast, and was thus one of the first movies in the Disney Revival of the Nineties; this also means that it was released before someone at Disney realized that it was possible to make a quick buck by cheaply producing very poor quality sequels to previous Disney movies, subsequently taking a dump on the legacy of those classics. The Rescuers Down Under actually has a pretty sizable fanbase; but NOBODY likes the Direct-To-Video crap.
By the way, Nostalgia Chick, I'm glad you gave a shout-out to John Lasseter, the man behind Pixar, for getting Disney off the "let's make a quick buck" mindset and back to making quality entertainment.

Family... My father molested me since before I can remember, though he claimes he started when I was 2, I'm not that sure. My mother was an alcoholic and completely indifferent to daddy molesting me, even videotaped it once or twise because daddy promised to get her more booze. On Christmas day, my uncle would come over and we would have a lovely little threesome. When I tried to get away from it all and stayed with my aunt, she started beating me with a soup in a towel in the abs because that wouldn't leave marks. And even though grandpa couldn't get it hard, he would use fingers and eventually his hand. Grandma told me to take it like a man.
Thanks, but I'd rather watch video's. Also: yousa trollin'!

Not only am I offended that people still think "Emo" is a real type of person, but I am horrendously offended that Lindsay Ellis had to sink so low that half of her jokes in a review were of an outdated stereotype.
Seriously, Dudette? You all really think it's funny to stereotype people, and make a good band (Simple Plan) actually look bad by not looking past your own fucking noses and seeing that they have idiots like you giving them a bad name? Have you ever paid attention to that song? So, I'm guessing that makes bands like Metallica, Dark Moor, etc. "emo" because they have songs about being down in the dumps?
I've been watching The Nostalgia Chick's videos go downhill for a while now, but this is the last straw. When it gets to a point that I'm OFFENDED by her because of vicious stereotyping making up over half of the jokes, I think it's time to resign my fanship and move on to a girl who actually knows what she's talking about (Marzgurl).

As one goth to another (even though I'm indenial like a good little goth):
It's a joke. Get a f'ing sense of humour.
Lindsay is the last person that actually believes in stereotypes. Have you read her corner of the forum?
I've got a couple of friends who identify themselves with emo, and I laughed like crazy during this review. Donno 'bout them, I ought to ask. But knowing them, they'd probably start cutting the moment they hear the word "emo".
Now you listen to me. Lindsay Ellis is the greatest and most wonderful person you're ever going to have the pleasure of watching. Don't think it's the blackmail, indoctrination, forced dependance and disconnect tactics that make people flock to our Faith! Lindsay has the power, the power to save all of us, we are all powerless. Only through Lindsay will you ever hope to achieve wisdom. Oh and freedom. And good dental.
Disclamer: .....Get a sense of humour.

12.29.2009 - 13:54 | Aces HighEven though Return of Jafar sucked any ways, the biggest problem was that Robin Williams gave Disney the finger and refused to be the Genie again, although the third one was... I only watch Aladdin for the Genie in the first place so I can't say much

I never liked Lion King 2. Why the fuck was Simba such an asshole? He oppressed his daughter and harrassed her mate. He seemed like a dictator. Plus I don't get the villians. What lions actually wanted to live under Scar's reign (under his reign they STARVED), much less enough to form a pride of their own in a shitty landscape (where Simba banished them to)? Kiara was okay but not near enough to save that God awful mess.
I liked the Aladdin series a lot, the sequels weren't fantastic but I think they were better than most.
I liked Cinderella 3 because unlike the others it was clearly an alternate ending that they made to make Cinderella stand up for herself. I don't know if a lot of people like it but I did.
Mulan 2 and Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 were by far the worst in my opinion. Mulan 2 was a dull continuation that did nothing but make bad jokes. HBoND2 had a terrible plot and just fucked with the genuine beauty the first had.
-
01.16.2010 - 13:56 | mr_rubinoIf Lion King is Hamlet, and Lion King 2 is Romeo and Juliet, does that make Lion King 1 1/2 Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead? *head somewhat explodes*
-
12.26.2009 - 23:43 | Not Shelley DuvallYES. the rescuers down under is THE only good disney sequel.
my family also includes toy story 2 as one of the only good disney sequels, but i don't. one: because it's disney/pixar, which is its own entity. B: because other than 'when she loved me,' i didn't really care for the movie (seriously, THAT is the song randy newman should've won for, not the 'monsters, inc.' song).
and yes, enchanted christmas is eleventy different kinds of fail. although i did like belle's story song when i was little. but i was little and naive and didn't know any better.
-
12.25.2009 - 22:37 | demecowenLion King 2, Rescuer down under, which had the better animation than the first one.
Aladdin 2 & 3 and IMHO Little Mermaid prequel and sequel.
Disney call produce good sequels, but this can only add more pain knowing that disney would produce this kind of crap, when they shouldn't.

on a good note, two kudo's for you love :)

12.25.2009 - 13:38 | SayaCelineWhen I saw you were reviewing this I first only saw Beauty and the Beast so I was worried as it is one of my all time favorite movies. I seriously love Belle and how she is actually a well developed character that isn't angry at him one minute and then falling in love with him the next because he's a prince. I also loved how she didn't take his crap.
But I felt relieved when I saw it was the sequel in this review. While it wasn't the worst as far as stories go, but it could have been so much better! I mean who wouldn't want to see Belle and the Beast in a holiday setting during their awkward starting to like each other phase.
Anyway have a happy holiday. ^_^

Well, as much as you killed that emo song, I must say it was an awesome review, and much better audio than some of your previous. Very nice. :cheer:
I think I can safely say "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas in 5 Seconds" will be none other than you doing the emo tear to that song. That'd be perfect.
As for Disney sequels.. yeah, I experienced that. Aladdin was my favorite Disney movie, and after Return of Jafar, I was just over it. I kinda liked Return of Jafar, but then you had the series and Prince of Thieves or whatever, and that churned my stomach. Never again.

Good lord. I don't know what that song you keep using is, but... auuuuuugh. It's stuck in my head right next to "Oooo whatcha saaay... that you only meant well..." Great running gag.
This is why emo has a bad rep, people. It's way to easy to use as a punchline. :D
It's really sickening to see Belle's character... um, ruined? The word that comes to mind is "emasculated" but that doesn't seem appropriate. From strong-willed independent woman to weeping, abused, wanting-to-please-her-man waif... I'm gonna be sick. XP

As far as Disney sequels go, there are worse ones that I have unfortunately seen. I know that's saying a lot, but I absolutely despised Mulan II and I also hated the Cinderella sequels. The only Disney sequels I like are Rescuers Down Under, Toy Story 2, and the POTC sequels. Why does Disney feel the need to make sequels to everything? Especially when a lot of those sequels aren't very good? Anyway, thank you for taking on this movie Lindsay and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sorry, "Princess and the Frog" just isn't the same caliber as "Beauty and the Beast."
