Sage, thank you very, VERY much for dropping that arbitrary numbering system. I find numerical to be somewhat offensive to my intelligence. I watch and read review to find out if someone who's opinion I trust liked the game. All I really want to know is "was it playable?", "was it fun?", and "is it worth the retail price?".
Also, I like the review, your calm and collected reviewing style is a nice breather in the already oversaturated highly emotional reviewers groups. Though I'll probably not buy Farcry2 myself, it is good to know that its not a wasted rental if I'm ever in the mood for a shooter.

I loved the first Far Cry (especially the unpatched version without quicksave). It was beautiful-looking and it was FUN - I loved how impossible the game seemed at first until you realize you had to skillfully mix a stealthy approach with a Rambo attitude.
After seeing this review (and realizing FC2 has nothing do to with the first one) and Spoony's vlog (where he said that stealth is now totally redundant and they actually introduced constant respawnage into the game) I think I'll pass this one.

Good choice. Not only that will stop the drama happened in your Fallout 3 reviews, it will also make your reviews more professional. As I mentioned before there are still some things that just don't feel right in your reviews, but it's better than many other reviews out there - even more than the one called 'professional' ones. Keep it coming.
Also, there are so many things to review these days. What are you going to play next time? Getting some recommendations could be awesome. I'd like Banjo Kazooie review, if you have 360.

Good review,,,better than some famous gaming websites. I do have two things to say though. If a game is advertised with the size of the world like it was with Far Cry 2 (50 sq km and all) it should be expected that traveling will take time. Similar things happens in STALKER. The point you made about the character being hard to like or get into becouse he doesnt speak isnt totally valid as Half-Life has the most famous silent protagonist of any game. Oh and in HL it works.

Nice review Sage. I will avoid this game in the future. As for people talking about the silent protagonist, this can work but only when said character is build in a fitting setting that supports this. A character like Link is silent and created by his actions over his words, but the characters here are just people. They create no life nor allow an attatchment for you the player.

Exelent idea to remove the numbering system. that way we wont go crazy like on Fall out 3 because we think its worth more.
Do i need to mention it was a great review lolol. :P
I like the game, but as you mentioned it's because of the map editing the most. it gets you really deeep into map making. something that very many fps cant do.

The game is really beautiful, but sometimes all that lush foliage just gets in the way. I was shooting an enemy I had thought was one that was playing dead through a bush. I figured since I only had a few extra bullets left in my clip, I'd unload on that sneaky guard. Instead it was another nearby that heard the scuffle and came to investigate. I nearly died figuring out it was him firing at me, and not the dead guy through the bush since the hit targeting was coming from nearly the same spot it was when the guy through the bush died.
I didn't really like the game as much as you seemed to, but I still think it was fun for what it was. And yes, the Jackal did feel a bit uninspired, as far as voice and lines were concerned.
I just think I'm not that big a shooter fan anymore. That might be the problem.
In any case, it was a good review. :)

I would have to contradict you and say the campaign was fantastic. While I do agree that the story was lacklustre, but setting and immersive qualities of the game more than made up for it. The game play does not get boring and repetitive as long as you experiment with the tools you are given throughout the game, for example, sometimes I would feel like going on a stealth mission, infiltrating the enemy camp with only a silenced pistol and a machete, killing every man in the camp without razing an eye. Other times I would go in Rambo style with all guns blazing. This to me is the strongest aspect of the game, and I feel that this was overlooked greatly in your review. I would also have to say that I enjoyed the fact your character didn’t talk, because it allowed me to create my own personality, and own story for him, a more role playing element. This immersion is only helped with the impressive amount of first person animations in the game. I know the whole role playing element is not for everyone, but it is something I certainly enjoyed and I know there are others that will as well.

I must agree with this review. I bought it for PC, and while the graphics are so astounding it nearly brought a tear to my eye *sniffle*, it's still pretty crappy campaign-wise. Yeah, it has GREAT AI, and it has some pretty nice weapon selections, but I HATE driving all over the map. Oh, and don't even get me started about when your car and all the enemies' cars blow up, leaving you to walk on foot. DAMNIT, THAT PISSED ME OFF. The jamming was a pain too, because it's hard to find ammo, sometimes, and you can't go back to the weapon store and get a weapon every time. It's hard to drive that far. Also, the story line was pretty crappy and it was pretty much shoot, kill, repeat. I have yet to try the online mode, though. But the game was okay. I imagine that online play will be a hell of a lot of fun, and I'd like to try my hands at making a map. But the campaign sucks, guys. It's totally not worth it if you don't like playing games online.

While playing the game, I did find the Story Mode quite addicting at first, but after a while it did get repetitive. Missions do vary from killing someone, stilling documents, or blowing up something. The GPS in the vehicles are not really completely useless, it does help you out at some times, although I did find myself using the map most of the time. Also, traveling in the game is tedious. It sometimes takes about 5-10 minutes to get to the mission, you could take a shortcut but you can risk having you vehicle stuck on a rock or a small tree. The multiplayer is possably the best part of the game, and the map editor will take some time to mak a decent map.
FarCry 2 is a good online game to play, but the story mode can be a bit better.

Quote:Well, yes Gordon never speaks, but characters around him at least acknowledge his existence, and at least they call him by his name. Here, you're lucky if some one calls you, "Hey you!"Well said Bennett. That was the very thing that didn't feel right for me yet you described the issue well. Thing is, put that in reviews. I think that you should break 5 minutes limit of your reviews and put everything you think. That said, while it seems like I always inquire you something, I'm kind your fan... keep it coming, always getting better.

When Sonic Unleashed comes out, mind talking about that too? I bacame a sonic fan at the beginning of summer, and he has had a horrendous recent history. If Sonic Unleashed is fucked up, though judging by the information given, very unlikely, it could kill the franchise.
If there's any game series that didn't fuck up on voice acting, it has to be Crash Bandicoot. Even with the image remake, a nightmare to any old school crash fan such as I, they changed most of the voice actors, and they are still fucking great... Except for Coco. She is voiced by the bitch who does Jimmy Neutron, and I am constantly reminded of an unentertaining big headded boy genius. Crunch's image has changed from a dull weightlifter to a humerous idiot. It's safe to say Dr. N. Brio (See the pun? N. Brio, embryo?) is my favorite character again. Crash is more violent, but in a cartooney Looney Toons way. Dr. N Gin's new image is crap compared to the old, and isn't as menacing, but both of his voice actors are awesome any way you slice it. Though mildly off topic, Crash must be brought up when the words "Voice Acting" appears anywhere.

Another major problem is that the AK-47 is made to look like a terrible weapon as oppose to in real life where an AK woud almost never jam or break down so easily. Reloading is a pain, just like in Black and Battlefield Bad Company, also published by EA games. When you reload when you are half empty, you have to charge the handle again or cock the gun and this is a pain when ppl are shooting at you.
-

Like many of the other games you've reveiwed, I've never played the game and probably won't because its not a style of game that tickles my fancy but knowing that, I still watch your reveiws anyways becuase I like they way you break your reveiws down and even tho you give your own oppinion, you still leave enough room for the person watching to decide for themselves what they think. Good job, keep them coming and 2 thumbs up for your new rating system.
Cheers

This is just a suggestion, and you absolutely do not have to follow it, but I think you should put a little more humor into your reviews. I was around for your youtube/reelgamers days, and what especially drew me to your review was the sense of humor you had while doing a review (Turning Point & Folklore are some of your best work). It's just a suggestion, and if you are trying to go for a more serious tone, then by all means do so. It's just that humor seemed to be something that you were good at.
looks like this isn't ready yet I guess
