Curse my Duke Nukem nostalgia. I wondered at the beginning of this series if you were ever gonna touch on Nukem. Nice spoof as usual, thank you very much. :)

Coincedentally, right before I watched this, I watched Nostalgia Chick's Titanic review.

People need to use that quote more! XD

Awesome job!

I wasn't expecting Duke Nukem. Hilarious ending, but I don't want to spoiler it lol.

Wow you're still taking shots at Avatar. Not that I blame you. At least we still have Pixar, where story comes first.

God dammit man, enough is enough! Some people actually liked Avatar. The plot was good enough to keep the story going, the CGI was out of this world, and the actors did their job very well! WTF?!
• YingYing
Avatar was terrible. Good technology, but no story, no character, just re-hashed material. I give Doug a lot of credit for having the balls to say what really needs to be said: people just like having fun, enjoying a good story. We don't need all this 3D mumbo jumbo. Just go back to writing damn stories that haven't been told 200 times.
• Vinny792
Yeah, But every movie stems it's roots from other stories. I didn't expect Avatar to have new and Groundbreaking story (If that's even still possible). The purpose was to watch it for the effects Technology, the realistic environments and 3D effects. Sure you can practically call Avatar a rip-off, but it all comes down to is the visual experience to watch in movie theaters, not as movie on it's own.
• Jonathan M
I don't believe the plot was at all ripped off.
It had a nice plot, I liked it.

Sure, it sounds ripped off if you dumb it down, but don't people dumb things down because they're too dumb to understand it? Or dumb it down to explain to a dumb person?

You don't want to be called dumb, do you?

Nice reasoning skills you've got there.

that and the technology wasnt really Camaron's anyway. Peter Jackson hired WETA to do it (better) in Lord of the rings when he did gollum and other characters.

the reason its not used much is because its expensive. so...really the technology was there. James just actually spent the money on it because he knew the plot and character was shit. Which is a shame because James has done some good movies in the past and he coped out on what could have been better.

The plot was a rip off. the only people i've heard who liked avatar are those who know very little about movie history and think that Transformers (the Michael Bay one) is a masterpiece of movie-making. Or super-environmentalists. The point is that anyone with half a brain that I know dislikes it.
• BaltoStephenWinter  - Avatar

I didn't like Michel Bay's Transformers and I liked Avatar.
True, the story is nothing new, but is that such a bad thing?
• Limecat
I liked Avatar and I think Michael Bay sucks cocks.
• Sandman-ivan
Michael Bay raped my childhood and made me distrust transformers! #2 was so crappy it felt like 2 crappy movies in one. it dint need any of that sexual references.

Avatar deserves more praise then what it gets.
• RayLedgend

I don't know man. I hated Micheal Bay's Transformers. Worst movie I saw from last year. Now I'm not a huge movie buff. I go every now and then, but it's not a huge thing for me. But anyway, I liked Avatar. And it's not that I was blown away by the special effects. It might be hard to believe, but I actually didn't think they were that impressive. Then again, I saw it in 2-D, and the very point of the effects were to look natural, but I'm getting off track. The point is, on it's merits of story and character I found Avatar above passable. Certainly not great, and not even near worthy of the highest grossing film ever, but it wasn't worthy of the hate it gets either. It was a cliche' story, yes, but it was told well enough to keep me interested. I equate it to going on a tour you've been on a bunch of times. You know the twists and turns, and you know what you're going to see, and when you're gonna see it, but this time you had a pretty cool tour guide taking you through it. Again, that doesn't make the movie good enough to be the top grosser, but it's not bad enough to be hated on the way it has. I mean, come on. Doug can't seem to go 5 videos without taking a jab at it.
• Cobblepot27
I'll have you know I have at least 3/4 of a brain, and I loved Avatar.

I also know a decent amount about film history. I also know that there are no truly original stories anymore, everything's an amalgamation.

Avatar did the exact same thing Star Wars did. Took a done-to-death, archetype and cliche filled story we ran into the ground a hundred times over, added a sci-fi spin to it, and made it new and interesting and enjoyable again.
• Rock Golem
You can take your' story based pessimism and stow it.Avater the last airbender had one of the greatest stories ever told! With amazing animation, memorable characters, and one of the most epic endings I've ever seen, I defy you to find anything similair to this series, granted it wasn't a movie but still. If anyone hasn't seen this series I highly encourage watching the whole thing.I love that bald headed boy wonder.

its one thing to tell a story that may be based one another. its a completely different ball park when you blantly rip off.

even district 9 didnt to that. it threw in some twist and focused on story and characters.
• Sandman-ivan
ya! i personly though it was one of my favorite movies, i loved it so much, and i get tired of hearing some people saying such things.

Have people forgotten about 2001: A Space Odyssey? The plot is there, but it is confusing. Most of the characters, with the exception of HAL, are not interesting at all. However, because of the movie's effects, it is considered one of the best movies of all time.
• SpaceGirlSpiff  - 2001: A Space Odyssey
avatar
Um... I didn't love that movie for its effects, sorry. They were okay, but not that great. What was great was the oddness of the idea - it was unlike anything I had ever seen at the time. Very different from Avatar, which had no new ideas at all, let alone captivating and remarkable ones.
This comment is a year too late... I wonder if anyone will ever see it... : )

Doug, you've come up with the greatest game idea of all time. You have to send it to EA or Capcom.

Also, could you use Solid Snake in your next VGC?

i can honestly say i wouldn't buy this game... because i would be dead, because they blew up canada to make it
• vid3oman64

RIP 3D Realms, now Duke Nukem Forever will NEVER come out. :(
• SpiderSlayr
Poor Duke Nukem Forever. I'd still buy it no matter what if it'd come out. You know, like when it's released around ten years from now (maybe).

Oh, and awesome Phelous referance/joke.

I freaking love these:
-Clever
-The Cockney British Accent
-The artistic story telling
-The subtle comedy (subtle-ish...)
-The nostalgic video game humor
...nothing less then phenomenal

I can't wait to see the next video because it's a shame, a damn shame these videos don't get at least somewhat of the same recognition as you're NC vids (NC is the best but this is still pretty damn good)

I guess its a dumb question but this was actually a popular character? I'm looking up in Wikipedia and well nothing is ringing any bells. Guess I missed this one.

As for doing everything "Real" well I saw some LARP modifications where people would have their friends fight with old game controllers hooked into their belts and the people outside of the fight holding the controllers would call out the button they were pushing and the person would react with the move as best as they could manage for the Video Game character they were dressed up as. Letting the other person react. So its kinda been done just on a smaller scale.

And that it was done IRL is kinda frightening.

Fun vid but the only character with the name Duke Nukem that comes to mind for me was in Captain Planet.

How old are you? How can you not know who Duke Nukem is?
• tiggerpete
I thought everyone knew Duke Nukem, it was almost as big as Doom back in the day (old school PC gamers FTW)
• Spokavriel

I kinda only heard of DOOM and still have never played any of the games from it. I was born in 1978. But I spent most of the 1990's in Psychiatric facilities. If the TV hadn't been on at the right time I might not have even heard about little things like Waco Texas or that whole first Gulf war thing.

Just like everyone seems to think there is no way to not know of someone called Richard Scarry. All I know about the guy is what I read in Wikipedia last year and still haven't seen any of his works either. At least not that I know of.

Edit: Heck I didn't even know about Bill Clinton's Crime Bill or Assault Weapon Ban until I started watching NRAnews online. And the Lewinski thing was another of those things I missed and only found out about after trying to make sense of a Jib-Jab cartoon.
