06.28.2010 - 15:48 | jayoNo, the show's just as good now as it ever has, if not better!
And actually, the new opening is much better than this one. This one's looks rather dated, and the show really needed something fresh!

Geez, Doug. Props on even ATTEMPTING to give lyrics to Danny Elfman craziness. Just...props...
And yes, the show DID peak after the late 90's. It's still great though, despite Family Guy worshipers flamming it because they don't understand where their favorite little show CAME FROM.

As fans well know... The Simpsons began as a poorly-drawn recurring short on early Fox-flagship "The Tracy Ullman Show"... which premiered on April 19th, 1987. I was born, on July 2nd, 1987. The Simpsons in TV form, are OLDER than I am!
How much has the world changed since then?
In 1987... Danny Glover was complaining about turning 50 in Lethal Weapon. Today, he's way too old for this shit.
In 1987... Spaceballs was a commendable, though at the time, barely relevant satire of science fiction. Today, it's a lame ass cartoon on even lamer-ass G4.
In 1987... Michael Jackson was still great and still black. Today, uh, "This is it".
In 1987... Nintendo ruled the gaming roost. Today... ... ... they rule the roost, but they're not considered as cool now!
In 1987... The Minnesota Twins were the little-team-that-could champions. Today... the Tampa Bay Rays have the home-dome advantage.
For the Simpsons to outlive all that is truly amazing. But yeah, Matt Groening needs to learn when to quit while he's ahead. IMHO... the movie should've been an opportunity to end the series with a bang.

Yeah the Simpsons are proof that HD does diddily shit to make a show good and switching to HD is more of a gimmick to make people give a shit again.
And Family Guy? Well thats just proof that Seth McFarland is a sell out.

No he's right it did peak in the 90s and now it just drags on. The reason it's so compared to Family Guy is because they ran out of decant plot and now just do random shit like Family Guy. Don't believe me well watch the last episode were they go to Ireland... (it's like they didn't even try to have a good plot)

Yeah, I dig. I must admit that these last few episodes have been a bit.... lacking. I can't say I really like the new intro, either. I don't hate it but you know, why fix something that isn't broken. It was the same intro for 20 years....
I think it was the second to last episode where maggie is the jewel of God or something... and I damn near cried inside. Ten years ago the Simpsons would have debunked the whole thing and now they just roll with it. Like that episode from the 90's where Springfield thought they found an angel but it ended up being an advertisement for the new mall or whatever.
Now the angel would have been an angel? It doesn't feel the same.
But I still want the Simpsons to live on indefinetly! Just get the good writing back. I can't picture a world without new episodes. :X

Hee, I was totally hoping you would take on "The Simpsons" theme song.
Now, I gotta admit, while I haven't watched the show on Sunday nights for years, I still feel an undying loyalty towards the show...or more specifically "Golden Era Simpsons" (I'd say from about Season 3-8/9). While there might be the occasional glimmer in this decade's episodes, there's something totally timeless about "Golden Era Simpsons": the older I get, the more new jokes, references and nuances I pick up on.
It's still really weird to see the show with a new opening credits. :0
Anyway, keep on singing us theme songs that didn't need lyrics, but you did anyway just for us. ;)

Great vid! Ive argued with my friends about the simpsons, but I still find it funny. sure not as funny as it was, but still funny. Have any of you thought about what the world would be like without simpsons? It would be a very dark place IMO.

I'm a huge fan of both series, I'm older than the Simpsons! They started in 87 on the Tracy Ulman show, and their own show didn't air until December 89 with their pilot a.k.a their first Christmas show. I actually think that the Simpsons are just as funny as they were in the late 90s. Why both shows battle so much in terms of fan-service: both senses of humor are strikingly different in political and cultural perspective. They serve their purposes in their own little way. Great theme lyrics NC! Never thought Mr. Elfman's work could get that awesome treatment.

03.26.2009 - 23:21 | Esorb RedMy first comment here, and probably in bad english.
I ever thought "The Simpsons" get so bad in the last years because of the german synchronization that's going worst from season to season (but I have to say that Homers german voice is even funnier than his english... and all other are really annoying in english :) )and is not able to copy english wordplays into german wordplays which make sense. Well... the plots are really stupid, whatever the synchro is.
And it's also my opinion, that "Family Guy" was trying to copy "The Simpsons", and now "The Simpsons" try to copy "Family Guy"...
What ever: "The Simpsons" are on TV for not less than one hour every day here in germany. And I watch them... every day... equal if it's a good episode or a bad... "The Simpsons" are like... yes, like water. You can't live without them.

But you have to see, there is a reason why the synchronisation in germany gets worse.
Some of the "important "voice actors are dead.
The german voice actress of Marge Simpson died a few years ago and Anke Engelke (a german comedian) took over.
She tries to sound more like the english version and... well.
And now comes the joke: Marges voice also synchronized Patty and selma, therefore this charakters also sound now different.
Not to forget the greatest fo them all, Ivar Combrinck.
Combrinck lend his voice to almost all important co-stars of this show like Skinner, Sideshow Bob, Troy McLure (also if this chracter never again showed up after his original voice actor was killed) and many other cameo figures and so on. It is therefore not surprising, that the synchronisation now goes off.

Ah yes, the Simopsons.
I hope next time will come up Futurama lyrics, that would be awesome.
But now, to the show itself:
First at all, ou re right, the Simpsons did already jump the shark. Hell, I just wait for the moment they let Homer jump upon one to satirize this thing.
The main problem in my opinion, they don`t know when to stop. I mean, even today there are a few episodes of newer seasons that aren`t so bad and the new opening... its okay, but no revelation.
The last very good Simpson works I kno are jsut the movie and the Simpsons videogame of 2007.
The movie was funny I think and stylistic it was more like an episode of the good seasons of the show I think. They just screwed unfortunately the ending and to be honest, a movie...
I think they could have also come up as a TV special for this.
The game: Great. It`s a short game, but it has a lot of inside jokes against the Simpsons, videogame industry and other things. I mean, a game where you can beat god itself at DDR?
That`s just genius.
To the question of "did Family Guy steal from the Simpsons and vice versa"
... yeah, I think so.
In the beginning, Family Guy at last stole the main formula of the simpsons.
But honestly, Family Guy, especially the first seasons were just bullcrap.
I watched them all and until the late third season I don`t like any of the episodes. Lyrics are great and Seth Mac Farlane has a lot fo humor and talent as a comedic singer, but... the plots are stupid.
Only after that, as the show also began to develop more his own storys and more gags I thought it was watchable.
Unfortunately, slowly the show again seems to lose it`s glory.
I mean Meg bashing, Stewie is slowly anoying and the "flashbacks" with remember as... South Park did explain it at the best I think, what stinks on Family Guy and what can be considered good.
So, what are the only good shows now?
Well I think American Dad and Futurama.
About American Dad you can discuss if it isn`t just MacFarlanes bshing plattform against republicans, but I really like this show. At last this show doesn`t depend so much on stupid pop culture references as Family Guy and the characters are in my opinion more likeable. (except Stan and Roger, also if I consider them sometimes great)
And futurama... I think there is a simple reason why this show is great:
Because it is able to jump the shark whenever it wants but still it can be considered good.
While the Simpsons play at last in some it of "reaity" in whcih some of the main rules of physic and logic of our world should exist (which was the case in the good seasons of the nineties)
in Futurama they can come up with every science fiction idea they want. The show plays/played in the 31. century and therefore you can come up with weird aliens, roboters with alco...

After watching the Theme Lyrics videos, I was hoping for a Simpsons one and my wish was granted. :D I love how you made fun of The Simpsons having a new intro (which blows) and the show not being as good as it used to be. Hell, the show now is an atrocity (including the movie). I'll be sticking with seasons 2 - 8. They are certainly the best of The Simpsons.
-
03.27.2009 - 01:09 | GodOfPlagueI don't know why everyone hates on the new episodes of the simpsons a lot of them are still quite good. Sure they have some bad eps but so did all the other seasons.
Alot of people hated the movie too. I particularly liked it found it funny but thought it could use more burns.
I know the characters have "Grown" over the 20 years and changed maybe people just have a favorite verison of them
-
10.22.2009 - 11:53 | balmungsamaThe Simpsons haven't "grown" at all since season 8/9. They've devolved. Back then they were more like real people, with more emotions, much more relatable, and the jokes were subtle and witty. Now their jokes are like "hehe. Martin said 'faggot'". They're pathetic. Sure, they have some funny jokes every now and then, but the characters and plots are just horrible. They've become their catchphrases. Homer can't go 5 seconds without being clinically retarded, and has very few redeeming qualities. Bart is toned down and annoying, no longer the rebelious, well-meaning and troubled 10-year-old we could relate to. Marge is an annoying, needy, attention-whoring bitch who constantly needs assurance that her kids can't live without her. Lisa is unimportant and unlikable. the only one who seems closer to the original is Maggie, and even she isn't as strong. I miss when she actually made people think "this is like what it was like taking care of my kid". Now she's just random jokes. And that scene where she said "daddy" almost made me cry. There's nothing like that in the Simpsons now.
The show should be cancelled.
And after watching the 3rd Futurama movie, I hope Matt Groening doesn't bring back the show. He's clearly losing whatever he used to have.

But, and I know I'll get flamed/voted down for this, the lyrics weren't the best this time either. Maybe it's because of all the different rhythms and whatnot, but this wasn't the best one. Still, looking forward to more.
