hehe, I was just about to write my haet mail as I read that it was "inspired by the work of Kevin Smith". ;-)
Really nice vid. Reminds me of times when Kevin Smith had still something to tell.

Looks like pretty awesome work, ben. If your this good without much of a budget, your work would probably be face-melting if you had some extra money into it. *Indiana Jones Reference Here*

Well right off the bat I've got to say that the ADR is really crummy and pulled me out of the experience. sound design is an underappreciated art and it's absence is always felt, especially considering how much it can affect an actor preceived preformance. I can hardly judge the acting because of it and they sound flat and lifeless. This is a pet peeve of mine, doing your actors a disservice by making them seem less capable of emoting and can damage potential careers.

The next thing to catch my attention are the pop culture/film references, these were cliche back in the ninties. the whole point of infusing pop culture into your work is to illustrate and comment on the surrounding world that has shaped your characters. Sadly this artistic ideal has become a sort of post modern easter egg hunt that shows how clever the author is. the whole thing smacks of obligation rather then real need or message.

On to the film itself there isn't much to comment on. two friends wake up and meet each other, watch a bad, pretentious art film (hmm...) and go there seprate ways. nothing really happens and none of the characters are affected or changed by their experience, the whole event being a simple set up for the set peices involved. I was thrown off by the characterization of the two male leads. the opening is an exaggerated contrast between the two which is over the top and works quite well, but the interaction between the two is fairly understated, leaving me unsure of who they really are. the cinematography is nice, though a little energy is nothing to be afraid of.

All in all i can't say i liked it, but it was at least watchable, which is saying something considering all the short student films i've had to switch off halfway through. clean up your dialogue, make your characters more likable, and have something happen!
    2.5/5

This is my answer to Voyevoda who kindly took the time to write this great critic of this movie...
    "
wow thx man for your comment on students dude, that was quite a piece of clever points you made... so I felt like explaining you a little bit more about the deal I had with this short...

students have been made and edited in 48 hours 3 years ago was supposed to be the first part of a feature lengh movie I had in mind...

the movie would be an accurate and loving portrait of our generation and How people of our age can find themselves lost in the world of studies...

it would revolve around three characters; one passionate about games and all and doing studies he doesn't care about, a art fan having high expectations but never really working on anything serious, and one completely outside of this system, just having fun in the street...

the plot would be that after facing that they were going nowhere they would decide to make a real project together and put all their hopes and expectation into that...

which would fail eventualy and in the end have them back at where they were in the start, but Tilt would have the final word saying...

    well we're still kids anyway...

which would be sort of the same theme and idea Kitano gave with his movie Kid's Return...the fact that despite the youth being lost in this world, and never knowing where to go, they still can count on their desire and power to start over again because after all, their life hasn't started yet...

as for the sound well it's an english redub, recorded with different microphones so I tried my best... the French Version sounds better and more natural btw...

thanks again for watching and commenting but I think an real film lover like you would like to have this kind of extra information...

i'll post that in the comment section for the others to read as well... Thanks again and see you soon over the site...

You know what I find weird? That benzaie does a short film where he shows off his dance skills wearing a Superman t-shirt and a black leather jacket and then three years later he does a dance-off with AngryJoe, who just so happens to wear those things! Does that make benzaie a psychic? Or does it mean that AJ is a figment of Ben's imagination? :o

Anyway, great short film. Any chance you might upload the French original version with English subs?

very nice and unique in it's own right. i can see where you got the kevin smith references and as an artistic filmmaker myself, this movie kinda reflects the way my friends think about my work. ^^

but i prefer the original french version with english subtitles over this, feels more down to earth in my opinion.

It's pretty interesting to watch once you realise the idea behind the original feature length idea. Some quite funny parts in it too.

It was cool, and funny, and French. Three reasons for me to love it.
