    Yikes,40+ minutes.

Wow,DM Nash is awesome. Aura Scrolls? Is that from the same devs of Grim Terminus Alliance?

(sigh) I could only play Skyrim on weekends, which is why it took me a full year to finish the game.

Wow.Lvl 62? The highest I ever managed was 54, Can't imagine how some people got to Lvl 81.
  • KingGramJohnson  - Level 81
    avatar
There's two ways to reach level 81, cheat or don't cheat. I have Skyrim for Xbox, and one can cheat to reach that level (until they patched it). I, however, reached it by hard work, long hours gaming, and it only took two and a half years. And believe it or not, I have a life! Crazy! But now they added Legendary, which allows one to go beyond 81, I am now 87. I have stopped playing because there's nothing really left to do. :-P

    Now I'm playing Borderlands 2!

But anyway, nice video, but I miss the grand, movie style, everyone from Channel Awesome epicness. But still very well done!

when did they patch the oghma infinium bug? and you can go higher than 81? i have been gone for so long on skyrim
  • ghazzterThaOG
    avatar
I can. You do the level up cheap by using the book; my character is level 81-- and I did that after I fully beat the game of course... I didn't want to be to much of a cheater

Doug, I write this comment because I want you to go and search on youtube “The illogical moments and plot problems of The Dark Knight”. The video is about 20 minutes long and has a great analysis of The Dark Knight’s plot. This analysis could make you change your mind about the quality of the movie. Also I would love to hear your opinion on it, especially considering that you inspired me in doing such a video.

Also if you like “how should it have ended” web series, there are two other great web series: “Honest trailer” and “Everything wrong with”. These two make sort videos pointing the flaws of movies using a mix of comedy and actual critical analysis.

P.S. I know that my comment has nothing to do with the content of the video but please check out the video. You won’t regret it. And also check out the 2 web series, if you haven’t already gone it.

I'm pretty sure he watches "Honest Trailers" and "Everything Wrong With".
  • HMorris73
I think the Nostalgia Critic "Is it Right to Nitpick?" editorial is relevant here. I'm sure Doug's aware that The Dark Knight has its problems, it's just that for him and a lot of other audience members its characters, story and environment were good enough to distract them from those issues. Obviously YMMV on that though.
  • Injustice45  - YMMV

    Somebody's been on TvTropes...
  • HandsAcrossTheFeet
I don't know about Doug, but I know about all the problems with the Dark Knight and it's still my 2nd-favorite movie. I'm pretty sure it's CinemaSins' favorite, too.
  • HMorris73
Yeah, it's one of mine as well.
  • acewwewwf  - Happy Birthday
    The title says it all.
  • Anthari  - rumph
If i may be so bold as to critique.
I loved it, still the sci fi anniversaries i liked a tad more.
    Cheers.
  • Gadzinisko  - This was going to be collection of shorts
    avatar
If 45 minutes is short, then I don't know what isn't :) Perhaps "To Boldly Flee".

But I'm just nitpicking. I just don't have time to watch it at the moment ;)

[here may appear legitimate comment after I watch the movie :P ]

This isn't going to be a part 1 and have multiple parts like other films?
  • HeartBurnKid
No, they're doing an anthology this year. Each contributor is doing a different short film.

  • caligirl
    Loving it so far! :D
  • Xterra  - Nash as the framing device?
    avatar
Judging by Nash's role in all this, I'm guessing he's being like the Rod Serling to the Twilight Zone we're calling "The Uncanny Valley".
  • ladydiskette

I loved the back and forth between him and Rob Walker's character in the beginning. XD

Ok now that I watched the whole thing I can say more than first. so I'll say it

    That was awesome!

A very impressive piece of work. Very well written and acted... all good.
  • Monsieur 42

"Very well written and acted." Are you kidding me ? This is the first time I saw Doug act so dull. And the characters are awefully cliché and the story is damn rushed. This the worst thing created by Doug Walker I ever watched. And I usually love everything he creates.
  • silverspetz
    avatar
He isn't "dull" he is deadpan. There is a difference. Deadpan is when you make something funny by deliberately delivering it in a non-engaged manner. The character is cliché because that is the whole point. It is attempting to be a story about game-addiction and what makes people turn to games to escape their everyday lives. Jimboth is literary a fantasy character created by a frustrated schmuck.
  • VillainousBlogger  - A fascinating adventure

    I really liked this!
  • Gregory D.
    This is amazing, great work!
  • anathebutterfly

I wanted to like this but I really didn't. Sorry? It just relied on too many common cliches (nagging wife, sane black best friend, obsessed nerd, fish out of water story) for me to enjoy. Could have done without the gay jokes too.
  • fragmentedfear
You aren't alone. The whole thing was full of cliches and wasn't very funny. Honestly, I found it kind of offensive too. It came off as very "man those people who get invested in video games sure are pathetic losers who need to get a life", and considering I know Doug doesn't really play much video games aside from some casual fun ones, I know he doesn't get it.
  • matt0044
I actually went in knowing that it'd be "cliched" and the characters would be as one-note as I thought they'd be. And even then, I liked it. Given how it's suppose to be a humorous send-off to the Twilight Zone, an anthology series where each story has different characters and, there for, little time for development, I understood and wasn't disappointed. That and I found the whole to be pretty real and true to life (barring certain gags and the playstation game glitch thing) so the one-dimensional characters didn't seem so bad in that sense.

That and I'm a sucker for cheesy humor. (Help me...)
  • Dacilriel
I don't think the problem was that he got invested in video games. The problem was that he let it completely take over his life. You could have the same story with any hobby. It would work with a bookworm or a movie fanatic, anyone who gets too caught up in escapism to deal with what's really going on. The hobby itself isn't bad; the bad part is forgetting that there are more important things.
  • Redrally
That was my impression too. If he'd just switched off the console for once and actually engaged with the people who mattered to him, he could have saved his life.
  • matt0044
And that's why I like the ending. Because few people like Carl ever truly change and I know from experience. They remain stubborn and keep being blind to their Jackassery. Sadly, even trapped in the video game world, Carl tragically doesn't get it.
  • TheZombieMan
How is it offensive? Because the guy in the video was an obsessed gamer that put games before life?

That's not offensive that's some people, I'm a gamer and I own Skyrim and logged in tons of hours.

If you just see it as "Oh Doug is trash talking gamers, what a tool." than you're an idiot because the video mainly talks about how some people use games like Skyrim to create a new life while forgetting to live their own.
  • NexusTheImmortal  - Great start to the anniversary
    avatar
Dragon Bored was hilarious. The writing was good and the jokes kept the video going from start to finish. A great start to the anniversary :) can't wait for the rest

    Heh Heh bags of douchery

Wow can't believe it's been five years! Congratulations!

I really liked this short and I like the way your doing the anniversary this year. It's great to see use do more than just the regular nostalgia critic characters you play.

Really enjoyed the story and the concept hope the rest are just as good!

Congratulations to five awesome Years. When you announced these short films I was disappointed cause I expected only some 10 minute videos. Gladly I was wrong and the Video is all I could have wished for. Should have known better than to Question your always great Anniversary Specials.

Well that was all kinds of Awesome!!
  • Mousy Voice

Wow, you guys can create some pretty good stories when you don't have 50 other producers to juggle. This story is both poignant and funny, especially when you consider that the video game character has more of a life than the player. This is awesome and I can't wait to see what you come up with next year.
  • Samuraiko  - I loved it!
    avatar
Doug, Rob, gang, please don't take this the wrong way - but I totally forgot I was watching a TGWTG production. It was just that well done! SERIOUSLY! And total mad props to Rachel and Yo for this one!

Just yeah - wow! I can't wait to see the other four!
  • KingOfHeart  - Clap Clap Clap
    Wow..this video was excellent!
    I wasn't bored at all!
Shame there's no part 2, but It's better to have a great short video then a really long boring one!
  • ladydiskette
    avatar
As someone who once played MMORPGs in the past, I think the story presents a good morality tale of how much a video game can really take over your life. And how people really do take real life for granted trying to solve their problems through escapist fantasies and not finding a healthy balance in-between.

Also, I laughed at the whole User Agreement joke because it's so true, has anyone ever taken the time to sit down and actually read those things word for word. I used to just scroll down and go "Come on Agree button!"

I am looking forward to the next anthology movie.
  • Babinro  - ...surprisingly boring
It's discouraging to see that every time these guys deviate from their element that the end result is disappointment.

It's like Michael Jordan getting into Baseball or Vanilla Ice acting. You might get a cheap laugh here or there but it's just not worth it.

I'm sure you guys had fun doing something different. I for one look forward to more NC.
  • TheListenerCanon
Vanilla Ice isn't even good at rapping either!
  • Monsieur 42
    avatar
I'm sure they can do well out of their element but they might to take to do things right. I suppose they didn't had much time to do this annyversery for the story seems rushed and the characters quite cliché.
