WOW, you're getting this up early Doug, I'm really glad you like this episode XD.

We get more bending in the next episode, and you meet one of the cutest animals EVER XD. And, in my opinion, one of Sokka's funniest seance, but comedy is subjective . . . I hope I didn't spoil too much . . . did I?

Edit: Wait . . . I'm first? HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? 0_o . . . no seriously, how did that happen?
  • TryMe
What I think is more incredible is how you managed to misspell the word "scenes". :D
  • KenxKao

hay, even with spell check I am the worst speller in the world XD

I really like this episode, and it's element of chaos, as Doug said. I also love chases, too..My favorite part is that conversation with Iroh and Toph, and the end of that scene was great. The ending basically felt like taking a breath, and it was a great way to finish.
  • Dogboythelegend
Once again I'm glad you are doing this I cant wait when you get to my favourite episode :).

I'm the same way. I can't wait until the third season which is the best in my opinion.

Doug, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to play Grammar Nazi here. You said, "Who will do what for who. Who will not do what for who..." But that's incorrect. The correct word at the end should be whom, not who. So it should be, "Who will do what for whom. Who will not do what for whom." Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine.

Anyway, I agree. This episode is great and I love how Zuko and Iroh (Seriously Doug, how have you not learned his name by now?) team up with Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph to defeat Azula. I love seeing that alliance. I also love how they showed just how great Azula is at observing. While Mai thought the they should follow the trail of fur, Azula saw that the tops of the trees are broken and knew that Aang had attempted to trick them. That's awesome. I also like the conversation Toph and Iroh share. There is nothing wrong with letting people help you from time to time. Sometimes the whole lone gunslinger act is unnecessary. It's still a great lesson.

Overall, I love this episode. It's a great moment for character development. I would say I think you'll enjoy the next episode, but you've already posted that review and I'm so far behind now. So on to the next episode, haha. :)
  • Dipper723
This is why Azula is great. She was smart enough to see right through Aang's plan. And soon, we will see her be smart enough to do something that many villains in TV shows and movies fail to do. You'll see what I'm talking about soon.
  • fiah
Her smartness (and agility) is also emphasized by her -not- falling for Aangs trap in the broken buildung, unlike some other member of the royal family that we know! Oh, Zuzu... I always have to laugh when he just crashes down, hahaha.
And when Aang knocks her down anyway, she lands gracefully on her feet like the badass that she is!
    Oh, Azula! :D ... :) ... :') ... :,(

T__T How come I always end up thinking about the show finale after watching one of these awesome vlogs...
  • theSpaghettiman  - Yep
I know what you're referring too, and it's the reason why Azula is one of my all time favorite villains.
  • MilanJ  - You will be gone.?
You have cons comming up, what will happen to these Vlogs? I hope you will be back soon. I can't wait until you get to my favourite episodes. I'm re watching the series because you remebered me how much I like it.
Good luck and I hope to see you soon.

Really enjoyed this episode. This was actually the first time in the series that all 4 bending arts were used on a single target. Loved your analysis of Toph and uncle Iroh's conversation too that's one of my favorite scenes in the show!
  • Dipper723
Yeah, when I first saw the episode, I thought Azula died in the explosion, until I saw her in a future episode.

Next episode has my favorite moment in the show!
  • The Dark Avenger
Is it the ending with Zuko if so I agree its one of my favorite moments in the show. Felt so bad for the guy.

I keep seeing your new videos minutes after released.

Must be on the same frequency.

The most random thing that stuck out for me in this episode was that the writers weren't too afraid to go for the blind joke, and that continues in the rest of the series in very funny ways.

Loved this episode, really great but sad enidng to it to. :)
  • SRanger1071  - Yay, early upload!
First off, this episode messed me up for MONTHS after I saw it! Either the show went on hiatus, or I got grounded, or something happened preventing me from watching the show. Either way, I was torn up for weeks, convinced Iroh was dead. But he lives, with some pain for a few weeks. Zuko's a moron for not letting Katara heal him, though.

Second, her name is Toph, because it sounds like "tough." You'll get it in a month or so.

I very much love this episode for its theme, and not only the theme itself, but the way its handled. It isn't shoved at the audience like, "Look, it's important to remember what you're fighting against and why!" throughout the entire episode, but rather shows itself subtly through small breaths like the tea conversation and the silent Aang-Zuko-Azula monkey-in-the middle moment. This show truly is a wonder.
  • Youngbountygirl
I love this episode too. I did love the fight scene with Zuko, Aang, and Azula where they just don't know who their enemy is or who they're fighting against. I also like how more of the character this episode brought out to all of the characters combined and the conflict with someone just wanting to do their own thing and letting the other do their own thing, while someone else wants the person to contribute with the team. It is a good conflict that not only is a problem with a team, but roommates, couples living together, family, etc.

I didn't think you'd upload one on NC day! Yay!

I thought the tank being that fast was pretty insane, do they even bring that thing back later? Sheesh it's fast!

Toph, it rhymes with tough! XD

I think the message is Iroh gets along with everyone. What a good guy that Iroh XD

Zuko freaking out about his uncle and then not allowing them to help him-- gah it gets to me. Such good character writing!

I love that scene between Iroh and Toph. Simply two strangers sharing tea and what makes the scene so potent for me is that Toph really doesn't know what he looks like aside from his footsteps and voice. So even if Aang and the gang talked about him once, Toph would still have no idea she was sharing tea with the enemy.

I really liked how Toph's character shined in this episode. It was mentioned in her introductory episode that she had never had a single friend. So the concept of "Give and take" is hard for her to comprehend. And her attitude towards Katara was really understandable because her parents always treat her as a helpless and fragile person. It's understandable to me that she would take Katara's insult personally and think Katara was accusing her of not helping at all.
  • L2  - FORESHADOWING!
    >And her attitude towards Katara was really understandable because her parents always treat her as a helpless and fragile person. It's understandable to me that she would take Katara's insult personally and think Katara was accusing her of not helping at all.

Well, we will get to the episode about Kataara's "Motherly" personality later, now won't we~?
  • Cofsbro
I loved this episode and MY GOD The climax!!! XD It was awesome!

Also Doug I gotta say Thank You for giving us a tour around your house! :p

First your office, then the sitting room (I think), then the bedroon and now the kitchen. Whats next, will you show us the garden, hallway...bathroom? 0o er the latter I could do without please and thank you.
  • CharginChuck
Actually, I think it would be cool if he did an episode in the bathroom. No explanation, no "Here we are in the bathroom...", he's just there.
  • L2  - @Cofsbro
He should do the "Painted Lady" episode in the bathroom~
  • Leon Real
ROFL I can't believe we got to see the kitchen. I do believe I made a comment a while ago about how we were getting to see different rooms in Doug's house, and I thought to myself (or did I actually mention it?) that one of these day we'd see the kitchen. And lo and behold, here it is! LOL I'm putting my money on the garage appearing next.

It's ironic how an episode that delivers a message about interdependence end with Zuko rejecting help from others. I understand why he would distrust Katara's offer, they're his enemies and he's enraged, but still.

    Next episode, we get schooled.
  • L2
I think Zuko rejects Kataara's help not just because of them being enemies and the distrust thing, but the heat of the moment.

Zuko, with his honor and stuff, seems to be the type to reject help, even if it comes from a trustworthy person. Mix that in with having his closest friend/relative/ect just getting shot like he was going to die, and Zuko won't be in a proper state of mind to ask help from anyone.

Doug, this doesn't have to do with your vlogs, but I really like the way the rooms in your house are painted.

When you started out the video, it kinda sounded like you didn't like the episode. I'm glad you did though, cause I loved this one, especially when everybody came together in the end for that epic fight scene. Don't worry, they would never kill off Iroh now, he's too awesome for that.

xD I had to cry out a loud "OOOOOOH" at that one.
  • DeDreamer
I love how this Vlog is like a tour of Doug's house. I think I've said that before. Oh well, everyone else is saying it. It fits in with the whole personal opinion tone.

This is my favorite episode of season 2. That fight scene was so well choreographed. It's possibly the best fight scene in a show full of fight scenes.

One more thing about the conversation between Toph and Uncle is that in the middle of this fast paced episode we get a quiet scene of them talking with some lovely landscape showing around, it's very beautiful and makes for a good breather.

Ha, when Azula has a choice between attacking the avatar and her brother she goes for Zuko. I've seen that image of the five character coming together to attack Azula all over the internet.
  • Reaper00140
I think my favorite part in this episode was when Aang lured Azula and Zuko into that building with no floor, when Azula sidestepped, Zuko just charged in and fell. I don't know why but I just laughed out loud at that scene. It was somewhat looney tunes-esque in the way it was executed.
  • Vallraffs

I found this to be a really good episode, and the next one - bitter work - is quite possibly my favorite episode of the show, and at the very least my favorite episode of the book. Thinking about this episode again made me remember the reasons why I loved Toph so much and why she was (and still is) my favorite character, and why I've never liked Katara; she's just so damn emotional, and let's her own personal feelings about people and situations decide almost everything, whereas Toph is pretty much always logical and smart, as well as being a total badass, and being stoic and cool.

This was one of my all-time favorite episodes. Not just because everyone teamed up against Azula, but it's like you said. In the amount of intense conflict, the characters have to pick the lesser of two evils and momentarily join forces. I love the fact that in this one, Zuko finally decides to lean on the side of the Avatar.

Of course, when Zuko is doing this, he's unsure of what to believe in, so it's expected to see someone like him jumble from one side to the other.

Great episode as always, Doug. Hope you enjoy the next few episodes! It gets really good from here on out.
  • akphillips0510
I loved this episode. I thought you would mention the "character development" Toph has going on since you mentioned that you thought she was one note before. I never got that but this episode lets her shine. She wants to be a very independent person because she's been coddled her entire life, has had no friends to have a healthy give and take with and it's actually an insult to her that Katara asks her to not do everything on her own. She believes that it's Katara thinking she can't function on her own. Really interesting stuff. Glad you liked the episode! Can't wait until tomorrow :D
  • The Dark Avenger
Aang "I think you both need to calm down."
    Katara "Both....I'M COMPLETELY CALM!!!"
Aang "Yeah...I can see that *walks away*."
  • venkarl

Also a pretty effective establishing moment for Azula when she attacks her own uncle after she surrenders, just to be a bitch about it.
  • HMorris73
It was more pragmatic than anything, Azula wanted to escape and Iroh happened to be the first one to give her an opening.
  • TheWelshPirate
    avatar
That's how I saw it as well. Azula's "surrender" was clearly her just lying/stalling for time. And when Iroh became distracted when he noticed Toph with Team Avatar, Azula took her opening.
  • pinky75910

Azula's 'surrender' made them drop their guard. Then she found the one target that would stop all of them - checkmate.
  • Perfect-10

I'm treating these videos less as his opinions of Avatar and more as a tour of Doug's house XD
  • aNoun  - It's just ONE word.
    avatar
    Say it.
    Iroh.
    SAY. IT.
    "Iroh"
    "Eye-Row"
    "Iroh"
Not 'the uncle', not 'May-ko'. Iroh.
He's a big deal, Doug, it may not seem like it now but he's a main character. A main character that pretends to be a secondary one.
  • ClaudiaFangless  - @aNoun
I agree... I love these vlogs, but it boggles my mind that he could be this bad at names.
  • Magiphart
I was just about to post something similar.
  • Melkiador
It is hard when someone doesn't seem to like your favorite character. Doug has seemed to miss some of the awesome things Iroh has done in the past, but I think you are kind of supposed to not think much of him. For most of the series he tries to play himself off as a feeble and silly old man.

But if you know your tropes, you should realize he is an awesome combination of "Cool Old Guy", "Seasoned Master" and "Crouching Moron Hidden Badass".
