01.31.2013 - 20:03 | FiangI think the reason why you don't find them in the more mainstream anime is because Japan's still going through its 'women's rights' movement and noticeable, strong women aren't very marketable in Japan. That's not the case for every anime woman in mainstream shows, but it's more common. It's still culturally prevalent that women stay in the home following their domestic roles rather than go out and actually do something. Even if it does involve magically transforming into a super hero in a sequence lasting about three minutes...

Don't forget my favorite anime, Gosick. Though the protagonist is a male, the female character, Victorique, steals the show. She's unique in that she's short, has a realistic figure, extremely intelligent, sarcastic/witty, but also has a tragic past and even a character arc. I discovered the show in anime club and everyone loves Victorique. She's a very well-written character, most likely because she's even written by a woman. So trust me, not all anime girls are big-boobed and slutty.

01.29.2013 - 22:33 | mallardwthacoldSince you couldn't find one here's my favorite animated British character: Jane from Disney's Tarzan.
I had the biggest boyhood crush on her.

01.29.2013 - 23:50 | dclarkFor my own list, I dont even need a top 10, my number one and only animated girl I find really attractive is hands down Rapunzel from Tangled (even post haircut). Sure there are a ton of animated hotties, but she seemed really real and very pretty....if she existed I'd be all over that
ps: your new house has very.....bold colors, that red hurts my eyes and in the review must go on I saw a lot of other weirdly painted rooms, each one different than the last. Im sure its a lovely home and im not a house designer or whatever, but it just seems kind of, unusual

Somehow I knew the mom from the Iron Giant would be on this list. I have no idea how I saw that one coming, but I did.
Belle is pretty, but she strikes me as being too sweet and innocent to be "hot". Of the Disney princesses, I'd be more inclined to pick Ariel. Maybe it's the bellybutton thing, or maybe it's that I've always been partial to redheads.
I agree with April O'Neil, Harley Quinn, and Rogue. I would have picked Jessica Rabbit (it's the cliche choice for a reason). I don't know who else I would pick, though, unless we allow stuff like Cowboy Bebop in which case Faye Valentine is another obvious choice. Well, either way, good list.
-
01.30.2013 - 00:11 | dclarkI liked the character designs in xmen evolution more, kitty looked great, and I liked that rogue better
-
It's nice seeing Doug express his sensitive side lol! I felt that there was a lot of interesting choices and unexpected ones too! I get the impression that these characters remind him of people he used to know or already does know :)! I liked that they seemed real within personality and heart. It's funny how he decided to do this way before Valentine's Day lol! And I still can't believe NC is coming back! Keep up the good work! I'm happy with whatever direction it goes :)!

01.30.2013 - 00:19 | RevegelanceThat wall seems to have a very oddly placed light switch.
-
01.30.2013 - 00:19 | DacilrielCalled number 1. She was right there the whole time!
I think that Mrs. Parr seemed really happy to get back to being a super hero, and I get the impression that she wasn't as satisfied with things as she was letting on. It seems to me that one of the reasons she was so frustrated with her husband's obsession with the "glory days" was that she missed them too, but she was doing her best to adjust. His refusal to make the effort she was making made it harder for her to deal with the situation.
I like that your top picks are nice, smart women, not women who are just physically attractive.
-
01.30.2013 - 06:01 | 10.0.0.1I would agree on Helen Parr missing the old days as well, notice how easy it was for Edna Mode to get her back into it for instance. My reading is that she misses it as much as anyone but long ago decided not to dwell on what could have been and focus on the family. IE what she gets mad at Bob for not doing.
I also like how she is not a perfect mom, she has the kind of realistic flaws that make her believable as a person without making her unlikable.

-
01.30.2013 - 11:58 | 80BabyI agree with you Elisa Maza is a much better, she is far from boring and bland. Elisa is also half black half Indian. Doug needs to add more colour to his list.
-
01.30.2013 - 00:28 | elelgood90Thank you! Thank you for having a diverse range of different kinds of women on this list. I like the fact that women of different shapes and designs were displayed on here. I mean, I know these are your picks, and are based on what you are attracted to, so you had little control over it, but sometimes I feel like certain types of women are ignored on lists like this. Just one of the reasons that you always come off like such a good person.
-
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see a few black women on your list. Not to make it entirely about race but we are often not well represented in these kinds of lists. I totally wasn't expecting this... especially Jamika from Bebe's Kids. EXCELLENT choice there, btw. She was beyond sexy.
-
This was the most perfect list so far. I completely agree with It and It also gave me on Idea of how I should be, like a man. It sounded more like the most wanted women then the most hottest :) you have once again given good subconsciously advice.

I don't see much sense in picking these out. You kind of have to make it "hottest animated women if they were real people that looked just like them" and in that sense it just arbitrary to specifically look for animated women, as in women some character designer has come up with. It just becomes a comparison between the ultimate personal ideal and how close to it somebody else has happened to come.
And if you consider whether they are "hot" as cartoon characters through and through, the word just loses all meaning. Beautiful imagery is just beutiful imagery. You could just as well consider the trippy scene from 2001 Space Odyssey "hot".

ME: Well, I find this fascinating. I think I'm partially ripping this off from something CR said on Familiar Faces, but if these "drawings" can make us *cry*, why can't they inspire...other reactions?
I also find it hilarious how terrified...TERRIFIED...D oug seemed of being mistaken for a furry or scalie on the choice of Demona. (Yeah, I'm a furry artist so I was glad to see a not-entirely-human choice on there). I mean, it's fantasy. That's the whole point of it, so what's the difference if she's human or not?
For my personal taste in hottest animated women, the only two that I would consider from this list would be Demona and Rogue, although I agree with Doug that all his choices are appealing characters and designs. I actually relate to Belle in particular, having grown up an "odd" person in a small, dull town (but I never thought of her as hot).
My hottest Disney character would be...Nala. (Technically "Adult Nala", the grown up version from the second half of the movie).
But...but...SHE'S NOT HUMAN!!!!!
So? Look at "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and tell me those animators weren't trying to make her attractive! She's also a strong, intelligent character (a bit relegated to the role of supporting Simba, but hey, he's the main character, so what are you going to do?) And she's got those eyes. Those big, beautiful greenish-blue eyes.
Other hottest animated women that would be on my list include Teryx from Dinosaucers and Renamon from Digimon Season 3/Tamers. I know that's not who most mainstream people would choose, but you can't tell me I don't like 'em :). If I had to pick another human who's not on this list, it would probably be Wonder Woman.
-
...I feel like this video doesn't really match the title. I think "Top 10 BEST Animated Women" would be more accurate, since "hotness" is generally considered a strictly physical thing, which Doug rarely brought up for most of these. Good video overall though, and it's interesting to see how Doug's actual opinion differentiates from that of his character.

This made me smile :) Doug you are really a great guy! Your wife is Soo lucky! I think you really like nice girls with some bite and ambition maybe they reminded you of your wife subconsciously. I pick Tiana for beauty and Leela from futurama for personality lol.

01.30.2013 - 01:21 | Brut3Doug my man, four MILF's in your list huh?
Nice...
-
01.30.2013 - 01:33 | Leon RealJamiqa, Demona, Helen Parr, AliceTompkins and Annie Hughes... It's official, this list is 50% MILFs.
I realize I'm not being very original here, but I really believe that once a woman becomes a mother she gains a sense of leadership. She has a reason to be responsible, gains a new outlook on life, she knows when to take charge, when to be lenient... Motherhood is definitely an important factor on this list.
I guess Demona would be an exception though. She's a mother, but only technically. In fact, her daughter, Angela, is part of the clan she's enemies with. Still, Demona does care for Angela, even if it's for selfish reasons, and if the series had continued (disregard the "Goliath Chronicles") , I'm pretty sure she would've been a positive influence.
I'm gonna go ahead and make a plug. Check out the Gargoyles Saga site: http://tgs.gargoyles- fans.org/ Great stories there. You'll see exactly the positive influence I'm talking about.

A very well thought-out list. I appreciate that while you called it the "hottest animated women," you based more of your list on criteria like personality and characterization. Good characterization is extremely attractive.
And, speaking as a somewhat odd bookworm who has identified with Belle since childhood, I'm especially glad she made your #1. I don't think I could have taken it if you had ripped her to shreds, lol.
(As for a lack of British accents, isn't Marina Sirtis British?)
-
01.30.2013 - 18:03 | ArsmithShe is. According to this here Wikipedia article she was born on London's east end.
Hmmm. Marina Sirtis + Gina Bellman = ?
-
01.30.2013 - 01:38 | Animedude5555Why did you not have any ANIME women on your list? Anime chicks are the HOTTEST!
-
01.30.2013 - 02:04 | Spiritkitten
-
01.30.2013 - 07:29 | 86comHe clearly says "anime" about half of the time, which can be confusing. 0:10, 0:45, 1:49, etc. He probably doesn't know or care enough about the difference.
-
01.30.2013 - 12:20 | FloweramonAnime IS animation. That's literally what the word anime means. In fact, in Japan, things like Disney and Looney Tunes are 'anime' too.
I figure Doug just doesn't watch enough Japanese animation to have a personal favorite to compete with this top ten.
-
01.30.2013 - 18:47 | 86comIt's just funny how much of a fan you are.
-
What is anime if not the word that the Japanese stole for Animation. (No, they did not steal it from English.)
Anime is animation and I cannot comprehend why people are convinced that we have differentiate Japanese animation from the rest of the world's, when even the Japanese do not do that.
The reason they are not included is because Doug does not care about Anime.
-
01.30.2013 - 06:22 | 10.0.0.1most likely because every list is subjective, unless you watch anime regularly it is not going to be on your personal list. also anime women tend to be exaggerated a bit in looks and if Jessica Rabbit gets a strike for looking unrealistic most anime likely gets it as well.

I still watch animated shows am I'm 27 so nothing to be ashamed of Doug. I wonder though since the restriction is lifted and I know he's watched MLP:FiM if there will be a NC review of either it, one of it's predecessors and/or one of the movies (since god knows some of them need it) despite CR doing one.
-
01.30.2013 - 01:44 | mj2639Good video Doug, I look forward to the NC next week. My favorite of your picks were the mother from Iron Giant and Mrs. Incredible. Its funny, when I went to see Incredibles for the first time I remember one scene when Mrs. Incredible is infiltrating Syndrome's lair and she is looking at herself in the mirror you get and you good shot of her "assets," lol. I totally forgot about the mother from Iron giant and how pretty she was.
Just a few things though:
#8:As a journalist student, I can't help but focus on April's clothing... you'd never be allowed on camera wearing that. But, uh, she could always wear it for ME...
#7: When I saw Batman as a kid, I'd never really read the comics, so I didn't know Harley Quinn wasn't a character in it until a few years later. Now I can't see the comic series without her!
#5: I miss The Critic...
#3: She's a better Reed Richards than Reed Richards. Hotter, too.
#2: Agreed, although I prefer her when she's not flying and punching trucks. I liked her having the opportunity for insane powers but with the limitation of having to get REALLY close first.
#1: I can see it, though I've always thought on pure appearance, Jasmine was the hottest Disney character. Not much personality, but still hot! Strange how I saw Beauty in the Beast when I was 4 and hated it, then saw it again when I was 24 and it's now my second favorite Disney film (Lion King is always #1!)
Also, just my opinion, but I kind of feel this should have been released on Valentines day. Would only have had to wait 2 more weeks!
