I didn't know this crossover was coming... and yet I've been waiting for it for a while. It was bound to happen, and it worked out great!
And God damn, this movie was a fuckload of ass. Do yourselves a favor, Snob and Lupa, watch the BBC reboot.
EDIT: it occurs to me that this may have actually taken place in the same timeline where the Cyberman attacked back in the 1850s. Perhaps it wasn't so far-fetched after all. Because, you know, that totally happened.

05.16.2011 - 08:46 | StallActually, Brad said he really liked this movie, and recommended it in a vlog review he did. I also think Lupa said she liked it as well, so it is hardly an "assload of fuck".

That's what we call "Suffering for your art".
I picked up the Asylum's Sherlock Holmes shortly before Brad reviewed it as himself on his website. "Sherlock vs. a T-Rex, a Kraken and a Dragon? Awesome!"
My friends and I really enjoyed it and it's a really good laugh.
Nice Work Lupa and Snob!
Great crossover!
Now, where is that 3 year anniversary special?!

Just pure greatness. Although the chuckle at the end of the "My brother Timmy"-Gag from the Snob had me loling so hard.
And poor Lupa, one review with the snob and she gets smacked. Damn. But, am I beeing a complete asshole when I say, that that was very funny blooper? X-D "We should juse this take!" and "It would have been worse, if I stayed in character!" just cracked me up.

W-wow, and I thought the recent Holmes movie was untrue to the feel of Doyle's Holmes.
Robot dinosaurs? In your 19th century? Apparently, it happens more often than you think.
What do you think was the possibility that the screenwriters just went to a plot generator and decided to run with the first thing they got no matter how implausible it was? What other explanation is there for how they came up with this? Other than the obvious 'doing drugs' theory?

AMEN. But I can be more lenient on the Asylum because we hold them to a much lower standard than "real" film companies. No matter how many times Hollywood disappoints us, we still expect better things than we typically receive from adaptations off beloved canons.
I'd let them get away with "robot dinosaurs" if they looked steampunky and badass. Naturally, they went in a different and much lamer direction.
Iunno, man. I think whoever adapted Super Mario Bros. for the big screen must've had a hand in this script. There's clearly a severe allergy to sensemake going on.

Actually, according to the inter-nets, the director did not originally want a T-Rex in her movie, but The Asylum insisted.
I think you and I both know that THAT is the one thing out of place in this movie.
(Anyone find it off IMDb's plot synopsis says Sherlock Holmes fights Spring-Heeled Jack when Steampunk Iron Man looked like he could hardly walk let alone "spring"? Unless the T-Rex was Spring-Heeled Jack? He "sprung" into frame a lot.)

05.16.2011 - 01:37 | Haplo699Excellent review, the two characters work well off of one another.
Wales is actually a part of Britain so Welsh is a British accent, I suspect an English accent was what you were shooting for.

This was a great review, and I have to say, the Snob and Lupa's styles just seem to click when you put them together as a comedy team! I would say that I hope to see them pair up again, but, ah... I don't think that's going to happen.
Stage violence is hard to pull off, but... yeesh. That looked painful...
Still, this was a great way to start the 3rd anniversary celebration!

The crossovers that is! Not bad at all, I must say. Yet I'm going to offer my random thoughts anyway!
That dragon was totally Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Megatron!
So, this movie proves there really was no such thing as "Sherlock Holmes' smarter brother"? (Kudos to anyone who gets that ref!)
And finally, I never thought any movie could make me wish to see Robert Downey Jr. so much!
-
My complaint precisely! As much as it would've hurt to see them butcher Mycroft - I friggin' LOVE Mycroft, all one time he appears in canon - Sherlock already HAD a brother (whose name doesn't sound like a pneumatic tube sound effect). Admittedly, Mycroft's passiveness would prove something of an obstacle for such an ambitious pursuit as mad science, but I'm sure there's -some- way to light a fire under the old boy. Love, jealousy, vengeance... Then again, if the story were a little stronger, the weakness of the acting and the "special" effects would seem so much sadder by comparison.
I'm hardly a fan of the "real" Sherlock Holmes movie (I had to get mildly tipsy before I agreed to watch it), but Robert "Holmes will kill her if she tries anything" Downey Jr. at least has confidence and charisma. Ben Syder is too small, too squeaky, and too bland an actor to even -suggest- the physically fit and sharp-as-a-tack Holmes.
((Psst. All real fans of Sherlock Holmes should watch "Murder by Decree" with Christopher Plummer as Holmes and James Mason as Watson. Not your typical portrayal of either. That's a -good- thing.))

It just...zoomed in right in between the both of you... *snrk* Oh my God, too funny, especially being a huge fan of Allison.
And poor Allison at the end! Suddenly I understand what Spoony meant in his most recent video about Brad being so angry that she punched her in the face...
These two were a great combination though. Pitting Brad's straight-faced, angry sarcasm against Allison's playful, at times immature irreverence was hilarious. A match made in heaven. Nothing but more good things to come from this.
EDIT: @Cinnamon Scudworth: 80s sitcoms everywhere! If you watch Family Guy, anyway.

Smooth move ex-lax is a play on words. It refers to a bowl "movement." A "smooth" move because it comes out smooth like chocolate pudding. Ex-lax is a laxative, so when one takes it they have "smooth movements."
So,to say, "smooth move ex-lax," is a way of saying, "you made a mess of things," you know like you are the laxative and you got shit everywhere.
Where the phrase comes from I can only speculate, but it is no older than 1908 when the product was first invented by Max Kiss. Though the name was not applied to the product till William Lax stole the formula from Kiss while they where incarcerated in a Dutch prison.

Wonderful review. You two are a nice contrast to one another. Brad is so convincing with his hatred as the Cinema Snob although he likes the Asylum's Sherlock Holmes.
And now I finally understand the 'punching Obscurus Lupa' line the other day. Ouch! You need a stuntwoman.
I saw Brad's normal review of this movie and not long after that, the movie was on TV over here in Germany. I can tell you, the german dub doesn't make it any better, it's still so bad it's good. I'm a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes, so I should have been pissed about this movie but it played out like an incredibly goofy episode of Dr. Who and I was laughing my ass off throughout it.
Good? No. Entertaining? Hell, yeah!

You two are a fantastic reviewing team. Lupa, you're so much like my (clever redhead) sister that it's downright uncanny. Snob, nobody snobs quite like you. Plus, the outtake made me both wince (at the injury) and squee (at Brad being adorably mortified and apologetic and huggy) --and 8-Bit Mickey-- a rare feat indeed!
Two comments on the actual film:
(1) Um... the FUCK was with this movie? I mean, why Sherlock Holmes? I mean, I -know- why - the "real" movie was a hit + the Asylum has a strict "must rip off every successful movie" policy - but the plot elements were so completely detached from Holmes' shtick... Are the geniuses behind the Super Mario Bros movie creative consultants for the Asylum?
(2) The guy playing Thorpe (seriously? they couldn't just use the -canon- brother? I DEMAND EVIL MYCROFT!!!) totally should've been Sherlock. He was so much... less lame. I would've totally believed that Ben Syder had to compensate for being a wormy little prick by building a dorky copper suit and a Blue Eyes White Dragon jet. At least Dominic Keating doesn't have a face I feel compelled to smack on sight.

And like all great crossovers this works best due to the two styles clashing. Okay yeah there were a lot of laughs at the squid (how Watchman didn't have one but Sherlock Holmes did is just plain oddball) the evil cyborg brother, robotic dragon and dinosaur as well as htis being a tale the two wouldn't ever tell for... some reason and a lot of the various barbs thrown in (like "don't move it's based on acting talent" and "I know what you're thinking but this movie isn't going to have Watson shoot a paralyzed dying cripple man, but rather have Homes shoot a paralyzed dying cripple man") but the best part were just the two interacting. From Cinema Snob being aghast to do the review, not getting being in a screen by screen or the dramatic out of focus cutaways and yeah punching Lupa at the end. That's the kind of role reversal gag I really love seeing and was glad to see it used here. Hope Lupa wasn't hurt too much by the blooper reel punch. But yeah very good crossover and hope for a good amount more of them for this year's anniversary.
