i first learned of that definition from a Canadian program called kids in the hall where an old woman was complaining about homosexuals taking words from when she was young and turning them into something else. she said stuff like,"you cant say lets go throw another fag on the fire." i see that people are getting mixed reactions about my comment and i only wanted to say that we as a group are stronger then the individual.

I seriously wished I volunteered at this place when I was in college and my campus ministry has service trips there. But I still can someday. I'm young and willing to help somehow. And great job Channel Awesome for spreading the love and attention.

Two Questions, and I'm NOT trying to make fun or downplay your charitable efforts!
1. Has it become mandatory that you absolutely MUST run some kind of charity once you run a larger website? I constantly keep stumbling upon these sites which raise money for children, pets, the environment, some disabled kid who wants a vacation...
2. Ronald McDonald? THE Ronald McDonald, the mascot of McDonalds? I'm pretty sure that McDonalds doesn't need charity to run one of its projects. McDonalds is making a fortune of our fat asses and surely won't run out of money anytime soon.
Or did McD just say "Here, put our sign on your house and that's our contribution! We're off to make money and destroy your health! Hahahaha!"
-
1. There is no mandatory law to help people. Some people just think it's nice.
2. Ronald McDonald house is a non-profit charity that is run independently of McDonalds. McDonalds is just their largest corporate donor. That means the Golden Arches are giving money to them just like we are. McDonalds helps Ronald McDonald House out by partnering with them for local fund-raising events, encouraging volunteerism amongst employees, hosting the donation boxes in the restaurants, and conducting an annual fundraiser.
The nutritional value of their food has nothing to do with this. Nor does their corporate profit. I never eat there, except to get a Shamrock Shake. And even if I did and weighed a gazillion pounds, I fail to see why I still shouldn't donate to sick kids.
86 cents of every dollar is used to globally fund the programs. McDonald's Corporation pays most of the administrative costs, so the money goes directly to the kids who need it. They meet the BBB's 20 Standards for Charity Accountability. And they were cited as one of America's Top 100 Charities by Worth Magazine.
Yes, the charity IS needed -- because it's NOT of one McDonald's projects that they built. They don't RUN Ronald McDonald House. They donate just like everyone else. And even if McDonald's is making a fortune on your "fat ass," no single ONE corporation can solely support Ronald McDonald House and it's growth. They have over 300 houses in the world now, with each room costing between $50 and $100 a DAY.
Chunks of this information are readily available on their website, the BBB website, Wikipedia, and was even touched upon in our own charity video which we ran during the drive. A simple Google search will also bring up the necessary pages.
I hope that answered your question.

12.30.2010 - 13:07 | MidesSo all we have to do to make it the "That Guy With The Glasses House of Charity" is get TGWTG recognized on the stock market, then donate more than McDonalds next year?
I think I just found our next milestone, guys!

Number two, not quite. The food-chain doesn't own the charity, but they are RDCH's biggest sponsors, and do a lot of fundraising for it. A percent of Macdo's profits are donated to charity every year, which can rank in the millions. Honestly, I suspect it's for the tax write-off the corporation gets, but who cares as long as it helps people?

I regret not going in front of my Ronald McDonald charity place. It would be too dark when I got off work, and I put off doing it on the weekend until too late.
