You know what honestly bothered me more than the "what would the leprechaun do with the gold once he has it" question? The fact that absolutely none of the murders need to happen. Just give the leprechaun his damn gold back. If anything, the humans are the bad guys. The leprechaun is just taking back what's his.
Also, seriously, the guy's freaking magical. He blows a hole in a guy's chest in one movie, and these idiot humans STILL refuse to give up their single gold coin. Just give the guy his money, and the movie will be over!
-
10.31.2010 - 23:42 | Lucia32You know, when you put it like that, the Leprechaun is very much a Objectivist hero: he just wants what's his by the sweat of his brow and will not be held down by social norms.
...at the very least, he would've made "Atlas Shrugged" entertaining.
-
11.01.2010 - 17:12 | j03b0b0fd00mI wondered that too. The whole time I'm just like "you don't want it anyway, and he TOLD you what he wanted! just fucking give it back already!"
dumbasses.

I agree with you 100% Lotus Prince...as do many other posters.
It's kind of like those stereotypical 'bad' dragon stories where people accuse the dragon of being the bad guy when realy it's them....after all, they barged in on its territory and start building a kingdom which reduces the places it can fly or stroll, steal its food sorce (taking wildlife and putting them in farms which again reduces the dragons food supply making it end up hunting and eating humans out of starvation and desperation) and possibly stole any 'treasure' it collected and then they act all "oooh help! run! a big, evil, ugly dragon...kill it! kill it!" when it attacks theit city....just leave the poor fucking thing alone!!
I love dragons and I hate those stereotypical stories.
I know this is going off topic, youyou get the gist...the same goes for this story...give the leprechaun his gold and he will go away...after all what would YOU do if some pathetic alien creatures stole something you held dear and you wanted it back?....of course! you'd MAKE them give it back...make those theiving bastards pay!

11.04.2010 - 06:39 | tootiredHe murders people who have no connection to the gold and from what he says he would kill them anyway for having the gold in the first place.
Plus he isn't a leprechaun he is another creature that looks like a leprechaun, is mistaken for a leprechaun and this creature will call itself a leprechaun. The name of the creature escapes me.

lol, I love the part where they talk about being mistaken for brothers. I would have loved to have been there to see that happen.
You have to admit though, the resemblance is uncanny, like with Rob Walker and the AVGN, I remember everyone on the youtube comments thinking that "Santa Christ" was James. And for a sec there I almost thought so too until they showed the end credits.

I think you already know the answer to that question Data Human. :)
Anyway, I always like hearing the commentaries about what goes into these reviews, and this was no exception. I'm not surprised that both of you kind of want to see the rest of the series. It's so delightfully campy and silly that it's something everyone should see at least once.
Maybe sometime in the future, one of you should review one of the sequels to this movie and come together once again. Maybe for next Halloween. Just a thought, but either way, great job on the review itself.
Oh, and for the record, I also love that line from Tim Curry in It. ah-HA ah-HA ah-HA :)

-
10.31.2010 - 23:12 | B-NavigatorIt's been a few years since I've seen Leprechaun, but as to why he wants his gold, I'm pretty sure there were two tiny bits- one where right after revival he complains about how his powers have faded leading to "I need me gold!" and when he recovers some of his gold he makes a comment about his powers returning.

Commentary! Yay. These are always so great to listen to. Thank you guys for doing one.
Also... LOL Rob. I do wish he got more attention in fandom (unless there's some part of it I haven't found yet where he does...), Rob is one seriously hilarious and talented dude.
...and I sound like such an asskisser but YOU CANNOT DENY THE TRUTH.

11.01.2010 - 01:29 | Lucia32What makes a movie scary, HD?
Well, after 1999 the answer came to us all: let it be directed by George Lucas. Now that's terrifying.

I prefur the reviewers to disagree with eachother, otherwise it just comes off as unfair bashing. There's also something less entertaining about people agreeing with eachother as opposed to fighting....unless they're rivals who normally vehemently disagree with eachother, working together to slam something they both hate.

Just so you guys know, you need to review Leprechaun 4: In Space..the frickin' leprechaun comes out of, get this..some guy's penis! Thats not even the most absurd that movie gets..it honestly ridiculous. I'd understand if you guys wanted to do the other 2 first, but this one is a must.
..oh yeah..and if I remember correctly, it never explains why he's in Space..he just is..on some alien planet..
