I've already sent an email! I realize that you're looking for written articles, and that my submissions are Let's Play videos, but they're still informative in their own way, in that I try to analyze what I see, and carefully explain my way through the games. Gamers, especially younger ones, can easily miss out on games from the 2000's and before, and those games are the main ones that I play. At the very least, I can offer a broader perspective of the gaming world, and I have been explicitly thanked for some of the games that I've played, for that very reason (the viewer couldn't access the game on his/her own, etc).
Whatever the case may be, I can't wait until the site opens, and I know that people are going to be pouring into the place like a mob!

10.29.2010 - 22:51 | QarxFor the lead editers, are reviews of older games (i.e., games that were released 4 years+ ago) permitted?
EDIT:
November 5th? Great... SCOTT!! Now a red letter date not only for science[!], but for Blistered Thumbs!
Sorry, I couldn't resist making a joke about that =P.

10.29.2010 - 23:06 | YeodenI am considering for some applications, though you didn't explain some of the questions that aroused during this video. But hoping you answer them and maybe it'll clarify for people wondering about them too:
First question - Are the applications restricted to US only residents or are European/Asian/African residents also viable candidates?
Second question - Are the main positions you listed payed positions, since it does involve a lot of work?
That's what i wanted to know :) . Hope for an answer!

-
10.30.2010 - 00:12 | YarumasiI concur with this post, while writing 2 posts a day may seem basic, I'm busy with my own paid blog where I review content for a regular job. I'm wondering if this will be paid so I can drop that and get some real recognition for my gaming reviews.

Sorry I missed this in the video! This is a start up website 100% bootstrapped. Here's the compensation as per the Websites Message and copied over from the forums post:
Positions are on a voluntary basis, for now. However, if accepted you will start receiving review copies sooner rather than later, and are considered eligible to attend and participate in events, interviews, and game conventions with the channel awesome crew under the blistered thumbs banner! You may also be asked to partake in community events such as live tournaments and video cross overs with the BT producers on their respective shows or on the official blistered thumbs podcast.

10.30.2010 - 12:01 | QarxI have a question on the latter part of that. If someone has to go a huge distance (i.e., leave the state or country), will Blistered Thumbs be financing the venture (as in, paying for plane tickets etc.)? I was just curious.

Course you can! You can apply for multiple positions. You can also Submit independent single reviews as many times as you like.
Thats likely the easiest way to get picked up if you dont get in the initial batch - having 5 of your reviews go up on the site - we review your work internally and bring you on if everything checks out!

What will set your site apart from other existing sites?
Gamefaqs has more written reviews than you'll ever be able to top. They also have basic game information, FAQs, screen shots and individual forums. That seems hard to beat.
Metacritic not only has composite review scores, but links to individual reviews.
Kotaku - Video game news site for games and culture. Mostly written articles.
The thing that makes Theyguywiththeglasses so awesome is the high quality VIDEO reviews, but it doesn't seem that BlisteredThumbs is very interested in these?

10.30.2010 - 02:14 | Thumper17While I understand the age limit. Why not 17? Since Mature games are rated for 17 and up. Not that it matters to me, I'm 19. But that's a damn shame for 17 year olds. I also didn't like the way you semi-talked down to people not 18. "We know English is your strongest course." Like you expect 5th graders to apply.
I guarantee that no one on this site is under the age of 14 or 13. Which is Grade 9 or 8.
I say if their 17 you take them on and just don't let them go to conventions or what not. That seems fair.

Thumper17. I'm not an official part of the site, but I think I can clarify. BisteredThumbs is looking to HIRE people. They might not be offering to PAY them, but they probably want to avoid any chance of their being a possibility of infringing on child labor laws. Few things can screw you over in life more than infringing on the well being of a child ... even a 17 year old one.

10.30.2010 - 02:40 | obliviousinformantThis sounds like its going to be a really cool site thats focused on the communtiy unlike most sites I go to that just seem to want to throw the news out there. I think there should be a position that is just dedicated to starting debates about games or related subjects with the community or something on the lines of that.

More questions.
You have a "PSP" position but nothing for DS? If I might be so bold, might I suggest making it a "mobile gaming" position?
You mentioned that you have a "review system". I get the impression that you have a fairly standardized review style in mind. However, I cannot find any such guidelines. If I'm going to post reviews in my application, I feel it would help to have those guidelines handy.

10.30.2010 - 03:20 | kingrat2314I'd love to apply for the Top List Editor, but I only have internet on the weekends, and sometimes not even. I'm going to have to fix this situation. The 'freelance' review thing sounds interesting too. Good luck to everybody who does apply!
-
10.30.2010 - 03:39 | SoskeWhy nothing about user made video reviews? Myself and many others would love to contribute video reviews, not just the written ones that you can get everywhere else.
Really, the videos are what makes That Guy with the Glasses such a great site, both producer and user made. If Blistered Thumbs isn't going to have videos, why go there when every other site has written reviews and news? Everything you mentioned in the video can be gotten from Metacritic, GameFAQs, etc.
-
10.30.2010 - 03:45 | True PerceptionWait, what's Arnie doing as far as gaming in Cawleeforneeya?
-
10.30.2010 - 14:42 | Lord Griffin
True Perception. I believe the law that Joe is referring to is the upcoming supreme court battle: "Schwarzenegger v. Video Software Dealers Association", which will take place "this fall". The internet is abuzz with opinions galore, but very few facts. I'm having a tough time finding official notes on this thing. The crux of the matter is whether a state can pass laws that limit the sales of explicitly rated video games to minors. The contractors are rallying behind "free speech", although personally? I don't think this is a 1st amendment issue at all, if you read the actual laws involved.

i'm gonna leave this one to the pros. if i got my own article it would mainly be me griping about how badly sports games suck (or how bad i am at them) and why aren't there any games for Mac users.
oh yeah, all that and wii is for kids.
and one more thing. i love that smilin' face of your AngryJoe. it's really the only reason i clicked on the video!
