Nowadays you can't even find a hint of conflict because even being better or unique from others is deemed inappropriate.

Everything is this child friendly crap, odd considering cartoons were originally meant for adults. I wish they'd have the balls in Sponge Bob to have Squidward finally snap mowing down everyone in the Krusty Krab.

I think it was all triggered by that whole child-see-child-do business that arose at the end of the 20th century. All of a sudden, kids "couldn't handle" death or violence, so we all got covered in bubble wrap and sent to play in Mattress Land. It's also because of that bullshit that 4Kids rose to power... :angry:

The irony to all that is that amongst those cartoons we got Batman The Animated Series, one of the best cartoons ever made, not to mention the other works of Bruce Timm, as well as Gargoyles, Animaniacs, the list goes on. Damn paranoid parents are afraid of quality.

Good commentary Doug. I like these riffs quite a bit. I really liked your repeated usages of "But don't worry kids, it's not that kind of story." That made me laugh every time. XD

Everybody has this one, because most of the public domain VHS cheapies included it.
There was a second Casper cartoon with this same plot, only the animal was different, Casper named him "Dudley," and it didn't kick off in the end.

I still think that Rob should join you on the next one. A single viewer riffing just isn't as funny as two or three viewers riffing off each other and the movie.

I can only second that. Not every animation is meant for children. That Casper cartoon definetely isn't and neither are WD or PD. I watched Watership Down as a kid and it terrified me. Even as an adult, Plague Dogs is just so sad.
