haha I always love the commentary ;)
• ForgottenSecrets
Hilarious as always! Thanks for the laughs!
• Shmooglavoue
When the best episode is so uninteresting that you are going off talking about zelda throughout it, you can tell when a series was bad.
• TechMan
I love your commentaries with Rob. You two are so funny together
• FREAKFANATIC  - WTF?!!! I can't believe you guys missided it aga

Captain N pauses reality with the SELECT BUTTON instead of the START BUTTON. Man, I thought you guys would actually found that flaw in the show the second time, but guess not. :S Oh well, great commentary anyway!

To be fair to the show, there is no rule that the start button always has to be the pause button; I have played several games in which select was used to pause. There just isn't a very large proportion of them.

I totally forgot about that part when Simon Belmont is just standing there with mouth open, and not moving at all. It makes me laugh every time!

Poor Simon Belmont...I mean, what were they thinking???

And I still laugh at how they forgot to put the background in; were the people in charge of reviewing blind?
• SignNinja
Yeah, I was wondering why you didn't do a "Doing the Elaine" Joke, it was so obvious!
• xtlhogciao
I loved this show as a kid. I was about 6 though.
• crissbones  - Review the Megaman cartoon
Doug you need to review the 1993 Megaman cartoon! That and the American Street Fighter cartoon as well!
• NintendoPoweredGamer
Damn that's right I forgot about the American version of the Street Fighter cartoon. Thanks for opening an old wound.

I actually own this series on DVD, and I will say that Simon Belmont is my favorite character; the reason being is because he is a douche-bag that is in love with himself, and I find that hilarious.
• Colme  - *sigh*
avatar
Man, there was so many Nintendo characters I wished were in this show. They certainly picked a few... and screwed them over...
• Rock Golem  - Yeah!
You tell em Doug, show those fans whose boss!By the way, the Lord of the rings joke was definitely the best.I'd have to say Tetra was my favorite zelda yet, Zelda seems to do all her best work when she's having an identity crises. In fact, if I were her, I would do everything possible to avoid ever becoming princess zelda and to stay in my alter ego.She saved links ass, what, 4 times? She saved Link more than Link saved her!To be fair though, her pirate crew helped.Even so in terms of how helpful she was, pirate zelda was probably better than ninja zelda!

Pretty Sure Link has saved her "ass" and the world more then she has saved him.

I'm surprised at you guys. I thought you read all of your comments. A friend of mine actually talked about the missing backgrounds in the Billy episode.

Quote: As for the scene where he talks about the no background in "Where's Bayou?" That was version 1 where scenes were incoherent and of course no bg. But there is actually a Where's Bayou Version 2 where they have backgrounds and it's actually coherent, but its rare to find, and I happened to find it in my VHS collection. what happened was the person that helped put this thing on DVD said "That's the only version they could find." So we were left with that garbage.

Other than that, good commentary.
• KungFuMan
So basically the guys that put together the DVD used a shoddy version of the cartoon they found lying around. Not surprising, I think the same thing happened with a few other cartoons to boot. :\
• that-antagonist
I'm pretty sure that owweo sound effect is actually saying "All we own we owe" from the wizard of oz? I think

To quote IMDB:
The screenplay shows that the correct lyrics are "O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!." The chant acts as a sort of audio inkblot.
Has no one considered the resemblance between this Simon Belmont and Cid Highwind?

Cid certainly came to my mind.

But Cid is more manly... and not flaming. XD They look like they could be cousins though.

I think the Zelda name is about making the main character as inconspicuous as possible so that he'd be easier to relate to. Yeah, I don't get it either. I guess it's a roleplaying thing, you're supposed to imagine it's you out there beating up octorocks and whatnot.

And the cross? Here's a little something from wikipedia: "after circles, crosses are one of the first symbols drawn by children of all cultures". It's also a common celtic symbol. You know, with knights and stuff. Especially used in insignias. Which are painted on shields, among other things. Yeah.

That review. I remember. That show, holy crap. I am so glad I did not grow up on it. -_- xD You are a brave soul, Mr. NC. O.O

By the way, if you really like Castlevania games, I advice you take a look at Castlevania Bloodlines (in the EU: The new generation).

It's for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and it's a really great Castlevania game with nice gameplay and soundtrack.

I always hated how this show really fucked up the Simon Belmont character. At least it was better than the Super Mario Bros Supershow!
• novice snob
Love the jingle after the announcement of the coming out party. Fricken brilliant. :D

I too had fuzzy memories of both this show and the Super Mario Brothers show. Funny how bad they look now. :side:

The blonde guy reminds me so much of Gateau Mocha from Bakuretsu Hunter. "Marron, look at MEEE!" ::posing & muscle bulging::

That princess...she looks like a human version of Princess Sally from Sonic. How naughty of Nintendo :p

Y'now....women have to wear bras to avoid public indecency....Guys with manboobs should have to wear them too.

In my childhood, I'd only ever played 4 Nintendo games, so this show didn't bother me at all.
• White_Cloth  - On the topic of why the game is called Zelda.
This is just a theory, but I presume that the reason for why the Zelda games are named after the distressed princess and not the hero is in reference to the Medieval European practice of Courtly Love (i.e. The knight performs a heroic journey in the name of his love). Such acts of the time kind of put the beloved (who was usually rich and powerful) on a pedestal.

Anyone took a good look at the cover of the magazine at 13:12?

I'd really like to see more video game tv show-reviews, those are always the funniest. Super Mario Bros, Sonic, Captain N were all hilarious. What about the Street Fighter cartoon? What would M. Bison say?

YESH! YESH!
• mrskippy

What is so bad about gay jokes then? If theyre cruel then it's not funny of course but I dont know, I have a gay friend and we make gay jokes all the time.
Btw we have this game store called "Game Mania" and I cant help hearing "Gay Mania" all the time either.
• metalmad
the princess on this show was a japan-only release fire emblem character with character development as confused as simon belmont. god only knows why they chose a character from a japan-only game for an AMERICAN tv show
