04.09.2010 - 23:11 | SpexGuy1118:woohoo: I can't to see your 2 year anniversary special! Plus i've already saw your review of Home Alone 3, with you making fun of John Hughes, "We'll take it. (Cash in sound) MY CAREER IS OVER!!!" :cheer: Very funny. How I did this, I watch the top 11 Christopher Walken thing (Again  ) and at the end it shows videos you want to see next. HOME ALONe 3 was one of them. Thought you might find this interesting. So either way, good luck in the future. And would you watch a video me and my friend made. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=NriIGEH37_A

To be fair, I think the blind guy wasn't healed because he wasn't cursed to begin with. The people who were healed in the movie were transformed by the evil magic; the blind man was blind before this whole thing started.
Really, though, this was a fantastic review, and I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary. Thanks so much for this!

04.10.2010 - 02:56 | reilly500What about Arthur or the dragons? Arthur just got hurt when the sword was stolen, and the dragons (presumably) has always shared a body.

04.10.2010 - 00:03 | Neo Ultra MikeTechnically, there was an explanation for the chicken turning good. IN the background you can see him look at the female chicken that Kayley's family owned and I guess he wanted to impress her. Lame explanation but it is the only one the movie gives. Still putting a character moment like that in the background is BAD. There's being subtle and being un-noticable to most of your auidence. Seriously you don't pull that kind of crap in a kids movie.
Great commentary though. Can't wait to see what the 2nd Anniversary special is. I hope it involves crossover reviews. Thsoe are awesome sauce mixed with... bagels of... radical extreme...ness. (Sighs) When did my dialogue dip into 90's Kids level slang?

You have way to much fun with this :D
I'd also like to say shame on you for two things:
First, all of my younger siblings are now running around the house saying "Hello hot character trait, goodbye hot character trait" without really understanding the meaning.
Personally I think its hilareous.
Secondly, Critic... your countdown with Christopher Walken... it was so good, my friends... all started trying... to do his accent, its hard... at first... Then we made a whole Dungeons and Dragons session... focused around....... his accent.

I am a huge fan of your work, Doug, and I loved this review, and this commentary. However there are a few things I feel I need to clarify... or defend... or whatever, about this movie. ^^;
1) You didn't even mention Ayden, the silver-winged falcon. You mentioned that Garret seemed to see better than most people. However, if you pay close enough attention, Ayden is the one who acts as Garret's eyes. Garret listens to the chirps that Ayden makes, and reacts to them. Ayden is also the one to convince Garret to let Kayley to come along after the "I Stand Alone" song, and he was the one to make the Griffin drop Excalibur in the beginning of the movie.
2) As a kid, I just accepted the whole "enchanted forest" thing. Sure, it's a pretty cheap explanation, but in a way, it works. And, since most people are afraid to enter the forest, because of all it's traps and dangers, most people wouldn't know much about it. I know that the Arthur legend has it's own mythology already, but there could exist an enchanted forest that most people avoid because of legends and superstition. Right?
3) The songs. Yes, a lot of them come, more or less, out of nowhere, but most of them make sense. Most of them are insights to the characters that we wouldn't get otherwise. And after they're over, they actually do mention them, if you pay close enough attention. Even after the pointless dragons' song, there is an exchange, that... well, frankly, always makes me smile.
Kayley: "Garret, let's take them with us. Please!"
Garret: "Oh.. I suppose so. But no more singing!"
Devon: "How do you feel about interpretive dance?"
Sure, it kinda breaks the 4th wall a bit, but I still enjoy it. ^^
Also, aside from Ruber's song, and the dragons' song, I really enjoy the music from this movie. Maybe it's because the songs are nostalgic, but I can never listen to them without, cheerfully, singing along. One of my favorite love songs (from a movie) is "Looking Through Your Eyes"! :)
4) Garret's story. You seemed very confused as to why he thought he wouldn't belong in Camelot, and yet, you neglected to even mention his backstory! Garret used to live in Camelot, as a young boy, who dreamed of someday becoming a knight. When he was stricken blind by a frightened horse, Kayley's father (Sir Lionel), was the only one who still believed in him, and helped him to learn to manage without his sight. Once Sir Lionel was killed, Garret had no one left who would reach out to him. He left Camelot, because after Sir Lionel died, all hope of Garret becoming a knight, died with him.
Even after he met Ayden and learned how to fight well without his sight, his past still haunted him, and he felt like he still wouldn't be welcome in Camelot. :(
I enjoyed the movie as a kid, and I still enjoy watching it from time to time as an adult. However, I will admit that i...

04.10.2010 - 02:08 | KurvosDamn, Doug... you are so hypocritical with your complains about the movie not explaining anything - since you love Spirited Away, even though that movie does not explain jack shit!
-
04.10.2010 - 04:19 | albinotanukiActually, the movie explains a lot, especially as to why Garrett refuses to return home to Camelot.

04.10.2010 - 03:58 | albinotanuki
Most recently, he seemed awfully adamant about "The ogre's butt" being a terrible line. I don't think it was THAT bad a line...no worse than "Snakes, why'd it have to be snakes", "Ugh, toons", or anything along those lines. However, the situation itself was ridiculous, as was the following scene he left out where the ogre farts them out into the cave wall. Even as a child, I had to fast-forward through that scene due to sheer stupidity.
That's the main problem I had with that joke; he should've focused more on the farting scene, which was much more juvenile than just saying "The Ogre's Butt!". If he had a problem with the fart jokes in those two John Hughs movies, I don't see why he wouldn't have a problem with it in this movie. If you think "The Ogre's Butt!" is the worst line ever, you might as well make "I found a stick!" from The Princess and the Frog second worst.
The thing is, "an ogre's butt" isn't even a freaking sentence. It's a partial thought that almost doesn't make sense even in the context it's in.
Yeah, but when compared to having the ogre fart out Ruber and the Gryphon, sending them flying straight into a wall, simply saying "The Ogre's Butt!" seems like a much more mature thing to put into a movie.
