i forgot to actually say anything. yes, i like this character. especially the
guitar bit. also, after you said "Lemonade" you should have leaned in
real close and asked "and did i mention i'm allergic to citrus?" HA!
-
08.17.2009 - 05:06 | gammainn
You should make more of this! Emo Jones is hillarious. He's quite different than the other characters as well which makes it more fun.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:15 | allanonseah
wow doug i'm starting to wonder if you're developing multiple personality syndrome and your using each one to give us great videos

-
08.17.2009 - 04:29 | ThatAnArchyDude - Umm . . .
. . . It's actually called Dissociative Identity Disorder now.
I have it.
Unfortunately, most of my personalities don't like cameras.
Too bad, too.
They can be pretty funny, too, from what I've been told.

-
08.16.2009 - 21:18 | dontknowdontcare
I know I should be annoyed at the thwacking of a misunderstood stereotype, but my laughter keeps getting in the way of that thought process.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:18 | Kynron - Emotastic
I liked this one. It reminded me of Conan's ''Secrets'' sketch
I think that with all your great characters Emo Jones is a good addition.
So bring more Emo

-
08.16.2009 - 21:19 | DanManX
I'm always in support of trying new things, so it's nice to see you branching out.
But not your best work here. Maybe it's because in the format and execution, you're essentially stealing one of Conan's old gags, "Celebrity Secrets." Something about it also reminded me of the Negrodamus sketches from Chappelle's Show, although that one I can't be as sure on.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:20 | OliverTwisted
OMG, I really knew a guy like this. You always know how to nail down these characters. Genius!
-
08.16.2009 - 21:21 | Malygon
This was pretty funny. I'd like to see more of it in the future. I think you should work a little bit on your look though. I doesn't look emo enough. And a little bit more lighting would be great too. Not much though. The room is still a little bit to dark in my opinion.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:25 | thegirlwiththehoodie
I didn't like any of that....just kidding.
That was awesomenessness!I don't know why kept expecting the emo whispering voice to say other random emo words; like Emo Joe would finish a sentence, and it would say "Tim Burton", or ..."tacos". I dunno. It was funny either way.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:26 | OmegaOne
Yeah, getting a big Celebrity Secrets vibe here, it comes off as a play on that but doesn't surpass the original to make up for it. There were a few spots I liked, the guitar bit was a giggle, but it seemed like a joke Melvin or Chester could have done, too. I don't know, the joke just seems to get old, about 3 jokes in I was thinking okay yeah, he's a depressing guy and we're sodomiz... er, satirizing emo culture, I got it. I can see it getting very tired, very fast if it were a series. It's not your best work, and it doesn't come off as clever as things like Melvin or Video Game Confessions.
That, and anyone who's this emo would have seen Twilight at least 6 times by now. HUGE inaccuracy!
-
08.16.2009 - 21:28 | DrSivana - Ditto with Malygon
I'd bill it more as an existential character rather than Emo. Not enough guyliner or Crappy band posters to really riff on the emo aesthetic.
The content however is funny as usual, and I'd love to see more.
Also lose the Blue filter, go for something that makes you look pale and doesn't obscure the black of your wardrobe.
Once again I'm just nitpicking on aesthetics, but I do so out of love
-
08.16.2009 - 21:28 | Zanity - Hmm...
I'm sorry Doug but I didn't find this funny at all. Maybe I didn't get the jokes, I don't know. But it was kinda boring. :/
-
08.16.2009 - 21:28 | SpazzMaster
Well, I was happy to see a new video before 3am PST, but now I feel like offing myself with my copy of Twilight...on Blu-ray....

-
08.16.2009 - 21:28 | Chris P Bacon
It's if Steven Wright was on anti-depressants, or perhaps if he wasn't.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:29 | pjunk
Lol, I loved it. It's hilarious, but I'm not sure if it would be great to continue this for a series. It seems like the joke would get old pretty fast...Also, way to recycle the tune to "Never open a bag of chips with a chainsaw!"

-
08.16.2009 - 21:30 | artimus
I liked that alot. I've only really seen 2 emo jokes/shows I've liked, one being from a podcast called "Darie, the emo bird." and this actually reminded me of it in a way.
Although this is something completely different and I like it alot! I support it, myself.
DanManX: I agree it's similar to Conan's joke, but he was probably influenced by it. I wouldn't really call it stealing.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:31 | Painkiller
OMG, NO not another EMO... Ple... Wait, this is ... FUNNY.. in fact it is decent, how many emo lines can one come up with please share

On another note, some of your actions/movments give you the "Ask that Guy" look so it can be a bit deceiving almost looks like you are conflicting with the two of them, if you had your sunglasses up and not showing your eyes it may show less of that, just an observation.
Other than that this looks to be something good.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:33 | forteblast - Swing and a miss
Hey Doug,
It's great to see you trying something different, but I honestly didn't think this was all that funny. It may be that I find sad, pathetic losers more pitiable than I do humorous.
Oh well. Keep up the great work. I'm sure others will enjoy this.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:33 | malacre
doug man awesome new concept i loved the vid its tied w/ the bartender character and nc, in my opinion make some more id love to see em
-
08.16.2009 - 21:34 | MrNickster - DEFFINITELY needs to be a regular feature
Emo Jones is hilatious! It perfectly portays stereotypical emo life style in a hilarious manner! With a few more episodes, it could compete with Ask That Guy With The Glasses and even the mighty Nostalgia Critic as Doug's funniest role.
-
08.16.2009 - 21:35 | Toe-Knee-Bee-Ears
Reminds me of Hollywood secrets on Conan O'Brian. Not bad. Better than joker's brother.
-
08.18.2009 - 19:29 | Molly
I think that's why I was underwhelmed by it, actually. If I compare anyone to Conan, they're going to come out on the bottom.
It was okay. Not hilarious, not the worst thing I've ever seen.
