Ah, I still love the first film. I have it on dvd from the bargain bin at Walmart. It's one of those movies that I want to show my kids.

I loved these movies as a kid. In fact I remember crying during the sadder scenes...I mean, ahem, I LIKE SPORTS! ;)

Johny 5 taking vengeance while the Bonnie Tyler song played made me cry! And I don't mean cry at how lame it was, either!

And speaking of crying in movies, how about a review of The Fly, over here! The version with Jeff Goldblum!

I always thought of the R.O.B and Wally when ever I saw this movie again. Sweet Review Doug. I did enjoy the movies, I am not too sure which one I liked better though.

I remember the first one as a kid and laughing throughout the entire movie. I don't know what I feel about as an adult since I haven't watched it since I was in the single digits. I never saw the second one. I guess I grew out of the second one by then. Great review, though. Brought back some nostalgic memories, at least, from the first one anyway.

I wouldn't talk about aiming... NC. You couldn't seem to shoot AVGN at point blank.

Enjoyable. I'm actually going to make a very interesting tie-in piece to this about a possible sequel/reboot of the franchise. Was half-way through writing the script when I stopped to see if what I would say was going to be repetitive. Turns out no. Stay tuned for my talk on this subject. Coming next week.

And of course it's just harmless entertainment for children, but if it weren't for these movies, I wouldn't have any negative stereotypes of Indians, Mexicans, Yuppie Chicks and boorish white guys planted so firmly into my psyche and dwelled upon. ... It was reported a while ago that Hollywood is considering a remake of Short Circuit. While it hasn't gone beyond that stage so far (as far as I know), I just can't help but think that any remake or future sequel in this franchise is going to lack the whimsy and "Machines will evolve, be benign and our dearest friends" message that these vintage '80s films have. I have no evidence, it's just a feeling, but Hollywood believes right now that mechaphobia makes better B.O. than mechalove... and that attitude does not bode well for poor Johnny 5.

I dunno... Wall-E definetly gave a lot of people a positive view of Robots, I think.

Freaking excellent review! I remember my friends telling me how funny Short Circuit was as a kid, but I never ended up seeing it. I probably couldn't watch it now without making fun of it the entire way through. Maybe I should have watched it when I was eight, or something. :-D

Just one thing, though: you misspelled "vengeance" in the epically hilarious trailer. Otherwise, this was brilliant!

See, these movies were basically Terminator 2 for kids. That's why we loved it then. When we watch it now, we realize that it's ridiculous, but back then, we all just thought "Cool! Killer robots our parents will let us watch!"

Man, Blip.tv is a piece of crap. Even if I leave them to load and come back, it's still like watching a slideshow.

Guess I'll have to wait for this to come on Youtube again... it's a shame, I feel bad not using the official site! :unsure:

If you are doing anything else on your computer (PC preferably in this circumstance) as a blip video plays. It will be sluggish as hell. So try eliminating everything else in the background, and see if that works for you.

Thanks NCW, but sadly it doesn't make much of a difference. My computer's a few years old, but the other big video sites are fine so it seems like Blip is just bad. The official site says it's still beta so maybe they'll get their act together soon.

I'm not a expert, but my computer is 5 years old, (expect graphics card, which is 2yrs old, since the old one decided to "disassemble" >_>)
But it runs Blip just great. just... How fast is your internet connection again? If it's something like 256kb and as you're not nearby the servers, it just... doesn't play well... Try pausing the review immediately, and then when it's loaded (takes a short while, grab a coffee or something) and try then.

I remember seeing both of these films in the theater, and I still have a soft spot for them. Sure, they are not that great, but they are good enough. Yeah that's not much, but Johnny 5 needs a reboot. HE NEEDS A REBOOT!
