"I honestly and truly despise and wish a suffering, horrible and painful death upon the entire cast of the twilight saga. any actor or celebrity or anyone that was ever remotely related to the production of that whore fest deserves to be beheaded by pickaxe. I truly, truly believe that."
And yet you feel then need to bring it up even though nobody was talking about it. You couldn't stand the fact that nobody was talking, or thinking, about Twilight so much that you shoehorned it into a completly unrelated video. Hum, sounds like you really don't hate it at all, in fact, it sounds like you're really a closet Twilight fan in denial. Oh sure, you yell at the top of your lungs to anyone around you (even if they didn't ask) that you loath those movies with all you might, but deep down, you know you wish you were Bela. You wish you were running, hand in hand, with Edward on a sunny beach, running your fingers through his overmoosed hair. You can deny it all you want, but you know I'm right, and you hate yourself for it!
Fangheart and Stephenie Meyer: best friends forever!
-
06.20.2012 - 14:31 | RabnixThinking he might have been referencing Doug's comments about how you shouldn't hold bad movies against the people involved, personally. Personal opinion, Twilight DID suck, but the only person I really hold that against is Stephanie Meyer.
Also, I seriously want a "Don't fuck with Mara Wilson" shirt, lol

"Doug's comments about how you shouldn't hold bad movies against the people involved, personally"
That is strange comment - if someone is praised for his/her work, then this someone can be also criticized. Of course Mara Wilson was just a small girl when she starred in movies, and now she just openly said that acting sucks for her. So it's really hard to held her responsible for her movie career, but all those people who deliberately are making bad movies, for sake of almighty dollar, those people should be criticized as hard and as often as possible
-
Regarding the rabbit/rabbi thing, it's the kind of joke where I wouldn't be surprised if someone just made an actual typo in the screenplay, and then when they read it they thought it was funny and just decided to run with it.

Me too! I thought that's what this was going to be! And when he said he had "her" I thought he meant Mara!
She's a lot cuter than I figured! Most former child-stars, especially the ones known for playing the adorable character types, normally grow into some of the creepiest people!
She kind of reminds me of Pushing up Roses in the face!
I never knew anything about this Twitter/Facebook war crap but it's interesting to learn of it! Maybe well get more celeb cameos! I'd love to see Bay on here someday!

Apparently she'd, as they said, just had a bad week- Yahoo and the British Daily Mail (as you know, THEY'RE known for good journalism) published a couple of not very nice and somewhat gossipy articles about her. The Yahoo one didn't seem to intentionally portray her in a bad light, but from what I can tell, she perceived them that way (they took her out of context a few times).
-
06.20.2012 - 01:57 | Vismutti
Yeah, the media can be a real bitch like that. In fact, it almost always is. I have way too much bad experience about that in my own country and I don't think it's much different anywhere else. I especially hate it when I write an article for a paper and it gets butchered in editing by someone who completely missed what I was saying... (Happens especially with the headlines because they always change the headlines and then it ends up being incorrect which annoys me because I know that many people will only read the headline.) Also I've heard from friends and family who've been interviewed how completely out of context the journalists tend to put quotes. And they love to make their own interpretations too, the journalists do.

Yes! I've been waiting for a commentary, especially a commentary of this!
This was pretty interesting to listen to, and I really don't understand how some people take this stuff as seriously as they do- it's all for larks, and he actually stated in the f-ups that it's all for larks.
Congratulations on getting married, and thanks for putting something up in the meantime.

Why would she care if someone dissed her work on the internet. Why would Holly care to mend a relationship with Mara? That fact is, character of not Doug is dissing the celebs. So are you saying Suburban Commando is a good movie, that Alec Baldwin's acting was good in the Shiny Time Station? If every actor and director starts complaining are you going to shut TGWTG down?
Getting to the commentary, Doug said "can she still act?" Well, damn Doug, it's just a cameo, and she "did" act in Hollywood movies as a child. Or were you inferring that you never thought she could act?
People were surprised that "She looks great!" She's not 70. She is probably still in her 20s. Do you expect her to look like Meg Ryan?
-
06.20.2012 - 01:36 | DustFrom what I understand, it started off as a "Yes, I'm aware of the Critic reviews, stop tweeting them to me" comment, which just made more people troll her with it, and things snowballed in the usual Internet fashion.
-
06.20.2012 - 03:27 | Vismutti
Like she said, she was apparently having a very bad week with the media suddenly digging her up and using her writings without a permission and out of context. And I have to say, I'd be pissed off about those too if I were in her place. I don't blame her for snapping at Doug: it was like the last drop kind of thing, I imagine.
Also not all 20-year-olds look great.
-
06.20.2012 - 12:48 | DMaster"Can she still act?" Well most people aren't aware of any work she's done in recent times, and she hasn't really acted recently outside of this video.
-
"Why would Holly care to mend a relationship with Mara?"
Why not? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing so.
"So are you saying Suburban Commando is a good movie, that Alec Baldwin's acting was good in the Shiny Time Station?"
Was the assertion that "A Simple Wish" was a bad movie really in question? Pretty sure that's not the case here. Pretty sure everyone involved admitted that, even Mara.
Do you really NEED all the movies Doug talks about in his NC reviews to be irredeemable in EVERY way?
"If every actor and director starts complaining are you going to shut TGWTG down?"
Again, where in the Jesus-Pogo-Jumping Christ was this ever in play as an option in this commentary?
"Getting to the commentary, Doug said "can she still act?" Well, damn Doug, it's just a cameo, and she "did" act in Hollywood movies as a child. Or were you inferring that you never thought she could act?"
The question was "Can she STILL act?" She's been out of practice for some time now. In fact, if what her blog says is true, she doesn't much care for acting.
"People were surprised that "She looks great!" She's not 70."
She's also not 7, which is about the last time most folks saw her. That's a very strange bees' nest you've got in your bonnet there.
-
08.20.2012 - 17:03 | St1garI can only agree with THOOM. What exactly was her problem? I haven't read the Twitter-drama, but what exactly did she say?
If she doesn't like the fact that he criticizes her movies, that's fine - that's completely her prerogative. But that's where it ends. It's not like Walker is doing something legally wrong by criticizing the movies or her performance in said movies.
If she wants to tell him she's upset, that's fine. But walker has zero obligation to give a shit. He's not doing anything illegal. So how exactly did this whole drama come about? Surely, in a sensible world, it should have been limited to:
"Hey. I hear that you don't like my stuff. I disapprove of that."
"Okay. You have every right to do that. But you have no right to tell me to stop."
"I know, that's why I didn't. I just wanted to let you know."
"Er... Okay. Now I know. (Not that I asked.) Bye!"
"Bye!"
How the hell can this have snowballed into taking five hours ending with both parties humbly apologizing to each other afterwards? What exactly were they even apologizing for? No-one did anything wrong! He said he didn't like her stuff, she said she didn't like the fact that he didn't like that. Case closed.

Because some people actually care about other people, and don't live their lives making everyone feel bad because they don't live up to their tastes.
You might want to try it some time. If you honestly don't apologize when people misinterpret you, then you very likely do not have any friends. Try making people feel better, and you'll be surprised at how much happier you'll be, and you won't feel any need to go around making up explanations to criticize random people with.
-
08.20.2012 - 17:17 | St1gartrlkly, Please stop embarrassing yourself. Doug Walker does a show completely based around criticizing the shit out of bad movies, actors and acting performances. I'm fairly sure he accepts the fact that the people he criticize probably aren't intensely happy about it.
"Because some people actually care about other people, and don't live their lives making everyone feel bad because they don't live up to their tastes."
...But that's his fucking JOB, trlkly. Telling bad actors and directors that they're bad is WHAT HE DOES. But he should apparently be surprised and start apologizing if they say they don't like it? Please think a little before you write.
-
11.03.2012 - 15:32 | JustThatGuyUh... no. His job is to ENTERTAIN people.
He does this by playing a loser character whose shtick is blowing things about movies completely out of proportion. If you've watched the commentaries(including the one on this very page), you'd know that Doug tends to have a higher opinion of these movies then the Critic does.

06.20.2012 - 01:17 | LordNiftyAt least Doug has moved beyond mugging and overacting. LOL
This was a neat commentary, and I was a bit curious about how the Mara Wilson cameo happened.
I generally only get genuinely peeved with a movie/TV show/etc. when it is genuinely smug and/or meanspirited. This is kind of another subject, but the meanspiritedness of "Homer's Enemy" makes it one of my least liked episodes, and I think that sort of increase in meanspiritedness in Simpsons episodes is a main reason why the show decreased in quality as time went on. There are too many movies/TV shows/etc., especially the political kind, that use smug meanspiritness as a poor substitute for... well, talent.

I know this comment has nothing at all to do with this video, but when the new The Hobbit movie comes out I swear the Nostalgia Critic better not touch the Rankin Bass The Hobbit cartoon. I know he likes to do videos related to things that are popular or happening at the moment, but The Hobbit is OFF LIMITS. Oh jeez who am I kidding I would love to see a video on it, I loved Fern Gully too, but the only thing I'm afraid of are naive fans that are too young to remember the original movie chiming in on how they hate the movie without watching the full movie for themselves.

I just don't understand one thing, Doug. If Nostalgia Critic is a character... why does he keep refer to things in your life being his life as well? Your name, your past videos, your home, and etcetera? I am not trying to attack you or anything - I just guess I am not understanding this the way others do. Am I dumb or something? Just that... I don't get it. Your character NC refers and hints he is you, all the time.
This might explain why people can take offense about what you say. Especially in your Airborne review, where you say you will cut off a guys balls as you don't think he deserves them, just because he wears a headband and tries on different clothes when he has his friend to check what he tries.
Just trying to explain my point of view... sorry if I overreact and misunderstand the concept of the character.

Well, he also referres to the time he took over a micronation, and met Santa Christ.
The fact is The Critic is meant to be a parody of people that live under the belief that their opinion is somehow above everyone else on the planet, and wind up ranting like a maniac if someone disagrees with them. Now I'm sure alot of it is his real opinion, as it's easier to rant on something you truly hate, but that doesn't mean it's meant to be taken completly seriously. Basical it's Doug without a filter, or any thoughs of tack or sparing anyones feelings: the joke being that it only makes him look like an ass. Just look at his real reviews that follow his Bum reviews and you'll see a much more rational person, which is probably closer to the real person.
-
06.20.2012 - 09:17 | Vismutti
It's similar to how some TV hosts and other such people have separate show personas and private personas, I think. Or a mix between that and a parody character like the Bum.
Although I agree that the Airborne thing was really cruel. It's not as if a lot of boys weren't already way too pressured into acting "manly" (meaning the modern western culture's version of manliness), even if it means refusing your own interests and talents and personality. And I'm not even gonna mention transvestites.

Used to happen all the time with every entertainer targeting younger audiences (college age and younger) during the 80s, Just check out the kind of characters they had in "professional" wrestling and MTV. They would usually try to use their real names, but even off the set they would try to be their characters in public, I'm pretty sure it was in their contracts. Fun stuff if your into that kind of Disneyland-like atmosphere around you in the real world. It kept people from being disappointed by an overly exaggerated characters real personality (like what was portrayed in Robin Williams character in Death to Smoochy.)
Nowadays people appreciate an actors work a lot more I think, and are really into learning about their favorite character's real story, but along with that we now have a media that editorializes all of their "news," over analyzing the smallest statements made by the actors, fans, and comedy characters.
I wish I could be that lazy with the work I do, ending my pc repairs at the users description of the problem. Who needs to diagnose and fix things? That's not as exciting as needing to "fix the internet, it's broken." I've fixed the internet so many times I should have some kind of medal or something ;P Call the AP!

It's always great to have a commentary to explain the behind the scenes of a video. I saw the whole thing on Twitter and a lot of people deserve credit for making this happen. Holly, Welshy and others did a great job and we were left with an amazing product. Here's hoping we get future collaborations with Doug and Mara Wilson!
All of you did a great job!

That's funny, I was wondering if this week would see a commentary video, and here one is! I'm sure Doug skipped a new NC vid so he can spend more time on the 4-year anniversary special (the sooner it's finished, the better!).
Honestly, the most terrifying thing in this video isn't Mara Wilson with shining evil eyes, or Martin Short trying too hard, or even the crummy CGI effects.
It's the braces ...
Oh God, the braces ...
