In all fairness I thought Swiftheart was a boy too - so did my sisters - but that's probably because he (sry, she) was blue. After having to watch My Little Pony when I was a kid, you kinda expect your whimsical cartoon characters to be colour-coded to gender.
But OMG, now I know where the pirate bit came from - that moment where Grumpy-Bear goes "Avast, it be a fair wind and clear sailing ahead!" I've been jokingly saying that for years, any time pirates (for any reason, movies or whatever) came up in conversation with absolutely no idea where the hell I'd first heard it from! Thank you Critic, you have revealed just how deeply ingrained Care Bears is in my psyche.... uh-oh.
To be fair though, I think I actually enjoyed this film far more than the first one as a child (I'd never seen no.2 before the review), since I remember watching it far more often.

Oh man, I can't believe anyone else knows about that Tom Thumb movie. I bought it on VHS not-so-long ago to see how bad it was. It was bad. Reeeeeaaaaaal bad.
Also, the Wizard's song reminded me of that weird gelatinous eating blob thing's song from the Raggedy Ann and Andy movie. But then again, I never saw the Terry Gilliam movie you referenced for it so...yeah.

American McGee's Nostalgia Critic FTW! LOL! I just loved Tenderheart being pwned by the Vorpal Blade there :D
But they left out the arcanic symbols on his apron, though I am sure they probably would have been hidden away judging by the posture however, the omega necklace is still a nice touch to give us hardcare Alice fans that lovely recognition.
And I am surprised that the NC didn't notice this but the rapping Cheshire Cat really seemed to have been placed there as rapping exposition if you ask me. Telling them the entire situation in a manner of minutes. I would think they could have had a better use of exposition when the queen explained to them later on instead of using the rapping cheshire cat.
-
08.03.2011 - 07:05 | kyon813Is it really that bad though? I read the book a few years ago and saw the movie when I was really little. I remember very little about it, but I have it was good, just disturbing.

Taste the rainbow, mother fuckers. Taste the rainbow, indeed.
Yeeeaahh… As soon as I saw that chick’s picture at 3:16, I immediately thought of Princess Peach. I’m sorry, Mario, but your princess is in a crappy Care Bears movie? I dunno.. it could work.
I remember 3-Eyed Susie from down the street. She may be special, but not “like special” (Rad reference… ha).
To be honest, I kinda enjoyed the rap battle between the cat and dog. I’m not sure why, but it was a nice break from all the shit this movie tries to throw at ya. Even though the dog was from a different movie.. hey, why not throw it in there anyway?
On a production-related note, I noticed the same effect was used with the Cheshire cat as with all the other old cartoons. If an object has a pattern, it seems to use a masking effect where the pattern remains perfectly still even though the character is all over the place. Watch the Cheshire cat dance, and you’ll see how it never moves with the character. That effect always bugged me in cartoons, ever since I was little. That’s when I realized I’d grow up to be a cynical nitpicky bastard. Just like my all-time hero, Douchey.
And.. a pleasant Queen of Hearts. Well alright then. Now I’ve seen everything. If that’s the case, I think I’m gonna jump off my roof now. I won’t be landing though. I’ll be flying, see, because now anything and everything is possible. I have the Care Bears to thank for that. Evil Wizard, Queen Queen, Princess Princess... and Stan. Rheumatism?

Well, since, like every damn adaptation it seems, they lumped Wonderland and Looking Glass together, perhaps she was supposed to be the Red Queen from the latter, but went with the name everyone would know.
(ok, I know, not all lump together, but the ones that don't tend to be based on Looking Glass and are like "HEY LOOK, I READ THE BOOK. SEE HOW SMART I AM THAT I READ THE BOOK? SEE, I DIDN'T SPARKNOTES IT AT ALL!")

I honestly don't understand people's fascination with the Care Bears. I didn't like them back when I thought Ferngully was a good movie, and I don't like them now.
And at 19:54, how did you get your face to turn "beet red?"
I guess all we can do now is hope that nobody decides to do a modern remake of this series. Because it's working so well for Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Smurfs.

I was wondering if you were gonna take a good gander at this film, even though you talked about it in your Top 11 Scariest Nostalgic Moments.
1:07- So, it’s like the “Beastmaster 2” of the Care Bears movie, I take it.
3:09- I love it when we both think of bunny boobies.
4:21- “Well, it’s a good feeling to know they’re up there doing their job.”
7:57- This should be “Transformers vs. Care Bears.” It may be a silly crossover story, but it’s LESS silly than seeing the Care Bears in Wonderland.
10:02- “How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll Center of a Tootsie Pop?”
12:10- It’s at this point of the video that I got a heart attack, called for an ambulance, got myself treated at the hospital, and came back home to watch the rest of the review.
Good thing that the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy gave The Emperor the name Palpatine.
17:00- Why do I feel like I should be watching “The Lord of the Rings” right now?
19:35- At least it’s not “Neverending Story 3” dumb (thank god).
It’s also good to know that NC won’t have to suffer watching the DTV Care Bear movies.

The Prequel Trilogy didn't give the Emperor the name Palpatine. Even though it wasn't mentioned in the Original trilogy, the name existed back then.

08.02.2011 - 22:14 | Simian RadioOh boy. See, I had no idea that there was a third Care Bear movie, let alone the fact that it was based on Alice in Wonderland!
...which is why I regret to inform you that there is a FOURTH. And it is based on the Nutcracker Suite! I watched it fairly often around Christmastime when I was little. Here's the IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/ title/tt0928026/
My apologies for re-opening the wound so soon, and doing so with my bare, germ-covered fingers.

I'm too young to have been a part of the Care Bears generation-guess I'm lucky. Although, to be fair, my generation suffers from the post-traumatic stress of having watched Barney.
Also, when I saw the Wizard in the Top 11 Scariest Nostalgic Moments, I did not realize that he was male; that was a big shock for me. For god's sake, he's got styled hair and a dress.
And yeah, that face is the reason that I'm up past midnight commenting on this video. But Samara Morgan's face is still creepier.

That line never gets old - I have been hearing it in my head randomly for a while.
I was 4 years old when this hit theaters, and while I didnt see it in the theater, I'm not even sure if I saw this on video. I probably did, but my memory doesn't serve. And considering what I saw displayed in this film, I'm not surprised.
I have no problem with the first Care Bears Movie. There, I said it. The second one has a cute song during the closing credits, but is otherwise quite disturbing. This installment doesnt quite equal up to the creepy factor that "The Care Bears nad In Land Without Feelings" strives for (I would love to see Critic's take on that one). I was terrified of that ultra dark TV special way back when, and seeing it as an adult, I figured out why - Coldheart's slave peoplez, and the bad animation are scare-inducing. This movie could have some easily scary moments for the youngsters.
I'm not surprised this movie didn't do well, it just has "cinematic fail" written all over it.
Oh, and the "gangsta sign bear" was hilarious! :-)

TASTE THE RAINBOW MOTHERF***ER! Epic line.
I saw that rapping dog and cat comparison coming from a mile away. :P But they aren't as good as Kazaam or Pig Power in the House though.
And wow, that scary wizard face really does work as a screamer XD
Somebody should also alert Mario that the princess was ripped off in another franchise's castle.

08.02.2011 - 22:33 | OggyI can't understand what would motivate them to make a third Care Bears movie. Did they honestly think it would do better than the other two pieces of crap? It's even like it was deep or insightful or anything even remotely connected to caring, which is kind of the Care Bears stick.
Anyway, great review Critic. Still hoping you'll find it in your schedule to review King Ralph. That movie deserves to be torn a new one.
