Um, the BMX biking? Seriously, BMX is barely one step above Razor scooters. I may be a little biased because I skateboard, but BMX tricks look really, REALLY lame to me.
It's like this: humping the bike vs making the plank on wheels you are balancing on spin 360 degrees under you, without touching it with your hands, and then landing on it and riding away. There's really no contest.

remove the spaces, and yes I've done both skateboarding and BMX. BMX is easier to get into due to being less tightly constricted by the need for precision footwork and control (bigger tires help too), but that doesn't mean the higher tiers are any less skillful than pro skaters or that the harder tricks are somehow inferior. Eventually the weight of the bike makes it more difficult to work with than a skateboard in some regards. Thus even some of the visually less impressive tricks still take amazing amounts of control and coordination (such as a nose manual grind on an uneven surface or something). I'd say eventually BMX is more about working with the bike's weight, where as skateboarding is about controlling the board (which really boils down to footwork and reflexes, imo). I prefer doing BMX because it's less floaty than a board, but I find it's actually easier to pull off certain tricks on a board too. The guys in this movie mostly just suck by today's standards (which has a lot to do with the age of the movie I'm sure).

Holy Crap! Yes! YES! I'm pretty sure I recommended this a few weeks ago! YES!
Oh man, this movie, along with the songs "Thunder In Your Heart" and "Break the Ice" are CLASSICS in my house. My brothers, sisters, and I still love this despite it's crappy campiness.
I am disappointed you didn't show the clip of Ray Walston (the old grump in the hat) flip the bird to Oscar!

Whenever I here of a movie with a title like “Rad,” NOTHING pops into the mind on what the Funking Wagnall it’s about. And after seeing this review, I feel that this film is what inspired “Airborne.”
1:50- Great, we have a film adaptation of “Paper Boy” for the NES, and it sucks as much as any other video game movie out there.
I agree that this movie is …SPECIAL (Shimmy).
2:49- The quality makes this film look like it should be reviewed by The Cinema Snob.
I wish I WAS watching “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.”
6:29- And wife. Don’t forget about the wife part.
8:24- I feel that “Rad” at this point turned into “Grease 3,” and Lindsey already showed us how much THAT film sucked. At least I’m rocking to one of the songs from Brad Jones’ “Hooker with a Heart of Gold.”
Nice job on the Batman: TAS clip.
14:27- Then you need Linkara, lady. HE’S a man.
16:40- If I want to see slow-motion action in films, I’ll stick with films like The Transformers Trilogy, The Matrix Trilogy, “Watchmen,” “300,” and a few others films.
17:17- I didn’t expect that movie joke to appear.
I never had sushi before, and I probably never will.

You're right, not all sushi is raw - much of it, such as shrimp or crab, is usually cooked, and some of it doesn't have any seafood in it at all (such as tomako (I think that's the right name), which is basically scrambled egg and sushi rice). With Doug spitting the sushi out, I don't think the issue was that it was sushi, I think the issue was that it was BAD sushi, from like a supermarket chain or something. You know, the dubious kind that comes on plastic trays in the supermarket fresh area. It could also be that Doug dislikes sushi in general (though he seems to have an opinion on it, so maybe he's a casual sushi eater), or that he doesn't like nori. I know someone who can't eat roll-style sushi because the texture of the nori bothers them.
I dunno how familiar you are with sushi, SpeedyEric, but one thing you should never do is eat sushi if it's not prepared fresh - and be wary if you can't see the chef preparing it in front of you. If this is your first time, picking it up from a supermarket or quick-stop store is never a good choice. You want real sushi? Do a sushi bar. It'll cost a bit more but it's worth it for the real thing, and the real thing is (in my opinion anyway) delicious. :) Try starting on familiar fish like salmon or shrimp, or mild fish like eel and tuna - it'll help ease you in to the more unique stuff (such as octopus and flying fish roe!) and the fusion stuff (the Rainbow Roll has multiple kinds of fish and happens to be my favorite).

See, if you knew German, the movie's title would make more sense to you. The only question I have is: Why the f*ck does an American movie have a German title? When I read the title of Doug's video, for a second I thought it was supposed to be an English word, but when I saw the title card picture, with the Nostalgia critic falling off a bike, it was immediately clear to me what it was about.
"Rad" (always spelled with a capital letter because it's a noun) is first of all the German word for "wheel", but what it refers to in this case is the colloquial abbreviation of "Fahrrad", which is German for "bicycle"!
Unfortunately, I'm literally only 00:27 seconds into this video and ALREADY what I feared has happened: The Nostalgia Critic pronounced the title wrong. He interpreted it as the 1980s slang adjective "rad" (short for "radical!") and used the American English pronunciation. *sigh*
Alright, maybe the producers of this movie intentionally played with the double meaning of English "rad" and German "Rad", but seeing how this is a movie about idiots on bicycles, I think the German pronunciation is more appropriate: the "a" in the middle is pronounced similarly to the a in "article", a long aa sound, followed by a soft d; but the German vowel is fuller and less flat than the English "article".

....seriously, the music is grating awful.
As a member of the late 90's extreme sports crowd, that's the kind of music that is associated with BMX riders in the 80's?
Holy fuck.
Thank God for 90's Hip Hop, Rap-Rock, Electronica and Alternative Rock. I really can't imagine riding a skateboard or BMX riding in a cheesy 80's pop song.
Hell, i used to think that some the songs from the Dave Mirra and the Tony Hawk video games were not to my taste, but atleast they're better than the music in this piece of shit called "Rad".

07.19.2011 - 23:23 | Moreno X90s Kid reply: DDDDuuuuddeeee of course 90's hip-hop, rap-rock, electronica and alternative rock can be really AWESOME. As far as I'm concern, extreme sport bikes can be like every kid of the 90s genre to look back at the 80s as a inspirating passion of bikes, drinks, babes, abs-pack doucheheads and, best of all if you will, BEACH PARTY!!
80s Dan comes in: Hey, hey, hey, don't forget all the fabulous Crystal Pespi offerings we have prepare for the folks at the beach to enjoy an occasional moment. Take my word for it, it's a lifetime occasion you'll never regret.

Good grief. At this point, even though I was born in the nineties, I have watched this show enough to be able to spot this movie as an eighties abomination from miles away. Thank god that slang wore out, now we have good slang... like shawty... and silly abbreviations that we speak out loud instead of texting...
These days, we also have better music than the cheese-grater-to-the- skull Rad soundtrack! Like the crap made by Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus...yeah, if one can't see how the current generation is just as flawed as the eighties in these respects, that person needs to accompany the passengers on the idiot bus that came by at the beginning of the video.
But more relevant to the video, this movie is just stupid, although I don't feel as upset by it as I did when I watched the Milk Money review. So that's something the creators of Rad can be proud of- their piece of cinematic idiocy was not as bad as Milk Money.
Great review; I loved the Life of Brian reference. And the bit about humping the bike, because that was my first impression of the image too.

07.19.2011 - 23:10 | Moreno XAm I the only one here thinks Rad is the "Airborne" of the 80s? 'Cause, I think from here, 80s Dan came into existence just like 90s Kid came from...well...Airborne. NC, I freakin' love that you put the sound and music from the classic NES game "Paper Boy". Serious, I haven't forgotten that game (it was so long ago when I used to owned the NES system).
Watching this review, so many familiar faces from movies and tv shows this movie had. Geez, this film is very weird and bizzard. Good review anyway NC.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt that moive sucks, but at LEAST its not as bad as the last titanic animated moive. Now that moive is a crime against humanity while this one I would say its creators must repeat preschool all the way back to the 12th grade.
God that moive not only sucked, but it was stupid and borning as hell. I would enjoy watching paint dry than Rad.
Anyway good job on the review Doug and keep it up.

07.19.2011 - 23:39 | BensaretAh yes, Rad SEEMS like a sucky movie, but that's because you haven't seen the director's cut. In which the entire cast fall into the Mangler at the beginning, and then the remaining 90 minutes are of 19 year olds in bikinis wrestling in jello. Plus there's allusions that Harrison Ford is a replicant.
