It’s true that I don’t know a gosh darn thing about Little Nemo, but I AM interested.

At least this film didn’t take as long to produce as “The Thief and the Cobbler.”

I really enjoy the movie references you give in this review.

Flip looks like a cross of Danny DeVito and Howard the Duck.

13:19- I haven’t done dancing like that since middle school.

14:33- This was funny when Phelous did it, and it’s just as funny as Doug did it. I love this site.

15:38- This is similar to “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” when they went to Davy Jones’ Locker.

This film Is such an acid trip to Hell, it is NOT on par with “The Wizard of Oz,” the animated “Alice in Wonderland,” or “Labyrinth,” but it IS on par with the live action “Alice in Wonderland.”

19:02- I feel that The Nightmare King should have a voice like Goliath from “Gargoyles.”

20:26- In the words of Christopher Walkin, “Put some on your head!”

I also find this film weird, but I do like how it’s animated. Also, congraduations for not making an Anakin Skywalker joke whenever Nemo said “yippy.”

I KNEW the Critic had to do an Inception joke. When i first watched this last year i said to myself "THIS IS INCEPTION!"

And TMS Studios is a good anime studio. Not only have they done Animaniacs but they also did D.Gray Man and Case Closed. This is one of their weakest works but yeah they are great at their stuff.

TMS's current work is "Sengoku Otome" which is basically Sengoku Basara with hot lesbians and a hot female version of Oda Nobunaga. And that is way better and way more enjoyable than Little Nemo.

The only Little Nemo thing I've ever heard about is the awesome arcade game. I still play that on my homemade arcade cabinet. (Yes, I have an arcade cabinet. It has over 3000 games. You can hate me now.) Thank god I don't have to pay real quarters though, that game can be ruthless...

And yes, I also think the Nightmare king is totally badass.

It's actualy an OK movie it was a good watch as a really little kid! Well, I was 1 when it 1st came out!
And you gotta admit the animation is almost like that of Spirited Away... well if it was don back in the 80s!

Well since you've done reviews on 2-3 animated movies from my fondest childhood memories you should do these:

    2.) Felix the Cat: The Movie(1988) http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Felix_the_Cat: _The_Movie
3.) Wizards(1977) http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Wizards_(film) Yes, I know a review has already on here but I'd like to see your verion!
    4.) Daffy Duck's Quackbusters(1988) http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Daffy_Duck% 27s_Quackbusters
5.) AKIRA(1988) You should know this one without a freaking link!!!
    6.) DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp(1990) http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/DuckTales_the_Movie: _Treasure_of_the_Lost_Lam p
7.) The Jetsons Movie(1990) you should know it too!

First off, guys, GIVE US BACK OUR ABILITY TO MAKE LINKS. Seriously, we pretty much need them, as seen here.

Anyhow, lets go over the odds (at least in my opinion) of NC doing (or should do) each one...

1.) Knock-off, connected to Disney, celebrity voices, pretty much ruined the company...Yep, the odds for this one seem pretty good!
2.) Well, Andrew Dickman (AKA the man behind most of this site's title cards) already reviewed it on his site, & while there's nothing stopping NC from reviewing it, of course (after all, he just did The Magic Voyage), I think he might want to make this one a bit more low-pripority (especially since Dickman's review was pretty hard to top).
3.) I haven't seen the other review for Wizards (who did it?), but it doesn't look like it has the worst reputation, though it is a Baksh film. Still, maybe.
4.) Dude, that's just one of those Looney Tunes "movies" (& I use the term pretty loosely) that's really just a bunch of old animated shorts slapped together with about 25% new footage in the form of a framing device.
5.) ...Really? A landmark of Japanese animation considered to be one of the best anmated films of all time? I doubt it.
6.) Well, given NC's memories of DuckTales, & the fact that he occasionally reviews films shows that were good, but definitely would have mockable flaws, I'd say there's a chance.
7.) Yes. Heck yes. I don't know if NC's opinion on the Jetsons is the same as his on the Flinstones, but I could easily see/want him getting around to this one.
8.) It's a sequel to a Don Bluth film, sans Bluth. It WILL find a way here.
    9.) A 24-minute short? Highly doubt it.
10.) Meh. Doesn't look like there's anything special about it, odd or bad, that would make it stand out enough for a review.
11.) He already listed this one as an underrated nostalgia classic in his list of the same name, so I think he might enjoy it too much to rip into it.
12.) Ditto above, & even more, since I think this was #1 on that list.
13.) Hell yes. It's a Disney cash-in that screws over history, was released in theaters, & most of us probably have some memory of seeing.

So overall, I'd say there are a few future reviews here, not a bad job. ^_^
  • moonymonster
I agree with you entirely on this list...though I hope American Tail 2 goes up soon :D That's the only movie on this particular list besides Tiny Toons that I remember personally seeing, although I do remember liking it (mostly because I liked the clothes, I think, always liked Westerns for that reason).

"Knock-off, connected to Disney, celebrity voices, pretty much ruined the company...Yep, the odds for this one seem pretty good!"

Oh GOD yes, they were overly proud of their voice-acting cast, which made the mediocre results all the sadder. I remember the toy commercial at the end of the VHS... lordy lord, they were soooo certain that this movie would be a huge success.

There's so much to make fun of, the review would write itself.
  • Dwane
It wasn't actually THAT bad and was pretty funny in some places. It just didn't hold a candle to the original. I agree it would make a an awesome and quite hilarious review, though.

Um....Balto's not Disney, not is it a bad film with enough things for the Critic to make fun of.
  • diazepam
    FUCK YOU BALTO WAS AWESOME.
...except it raised a generation of furries. I can't win.
  • Sheranda  - Furries?
    avatar
How? They were talking animals with human-like personalities, but they were still one hundred percent animals. They walked on all fours. They were in no physical way human. You would have to be a complete zoophile to be attracted to any of the animal characters. Are you sure you're talking about the right movie?
  • TheLaughingFish
    avatar
Yeah? Well there ARE subsets of the furry fandom that fetishize Simba, Nala, Scar, and Mufasa, not to mention the rest of The Lion King's characters, and THEY were all animals. I wouldn't put it past that subgroup.

For the record I have no issue with Furries as long as they're not the borderline zoophilic furvert type. I'm actually friends with quite a few Furries, including a Pokemon-specific Furry.
  • Sheranda

Yeah. I knew about Pokémon-specific furries. Ick.

I second "Felix the Cats" That was indeed a mindfucked movie.. Even though I enjoyed it as a kid.

I was born in, lessie, 1991 sometime. I remember watching Felix The Cat: The Movie over and over and over... and over. And yes, it was mindscrewy as Hell. And yes, it very, very much needs to be reviewed. If I recall correctly the animation wasn't all that great, either.
  • TheLaughingFish
    avatar
    1) Agreed.
    2) Agreed so hard. Why hasn't this one been done yet?
    3) Don't recall that one.
    4) Also don't recall that one, but if it's anything like Space Jam it'll be a rough one.
    5) Sorry, I don't know that one "without a freaking link". Had to look it up on Wikipedia. I got my answer as to why I don't know it: I don't watch much anime.
    6) Oh God, that would be a hilarious one to review, especially with its established catchy theme song.
    7) I barely recall it, but yeah do it.
    8) I actually seem to recall liking this one better than the original American Tail, but yeah go ahead and do it. I've actually NEVER liked An American Tail, I don't know why. Probably because it was depressing as all Hell.
    9) Heard of this one, don't remember seeing it. Sort of like how I'd heard of The Thief and the Cobbler but never seen it. It's probably about the same quality too.
    10) HOLY SHIT, this one! I remember this one, with the blue Little Engine, right? Hell yeah, do this one!
    11) Nope, he already put this one as a film that he actually liked on a past list, so it's probably not going to happen. I don't remember personally watching it. I think I was too young to sit that long and watch a film at the time...
    12) He put that one as part of #1 on his Top Nostalgiic Classics list, with the rest of Batman: The Animated Series. Besides, he reviews BAD nostalgic things. ;)
    13) Balto was amazing and you suck for saying that it sucks. Balto 2: Wolf Quest, however, now THERE'S a film I'd like to see torn apart.

I also really want to see him tear apart those two Alvin and the Chipmunks Halloween specials, the old Scooby-Doo Halloween Specials (Recluctant Werewolf and Ghoul School), and Flight of Dragons, if anyone recalls that one!

On a side note. Every post between his and mine are responses to his post, but none reference his post at all(except lithiumpop, stay cool man). I think they where late to game, but still wanted their posts at the top of list. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't all huge text walls of people suggesting crap for the Critic to review next. Come on this isn't Cinnamassacre.com. I guess if you name enough old crap you're bound to guess one of the next videos, and I bet you try to take credit for the idea too. Enough ranting for now. Wait.....The King has a daughter. So technically she would the heir to the throne. Why would he have to pick a completely random kid that he has never heard of to be his heir and have complete control over his kingdom.

I mean, the Princess should be the heir not Nemo. Not to mention guard the powerful sceptor, key, and pretty much knows the kingdom like the back of her hand. I am just saying dream or not there is no reason I could see why it should be Nemo and not her

Ha! Why would the king of Slumberland appoint *a woman* to be heir of the throne?!

And that actually makes sense, since the whole thing takes place in the mind of a boy who is of the right age to think girls are icky. Doesn't make it any less sexist though.

It DID seem a bit on the gonzo side, but your right this is NOT anime.

When I suggested this movie on one of the NC's older posts someone replied to me saying that Doug wouldn't review anime.

Other than that it was an entertaining movie with several flaws, but still enjoyable and it still holds up as a good one for the kids.

Seriously, thanks for choosing one of my suggestions NC!
  • Johnny User

Of course its not anime. See at 9:48 where the princess holds her dress to keep from showing the audience her panties? No anime would allow that.

Seriously, even if it was anime, it would still be targeted towards children. I mean, I don't remember seeing any upskirt shots in Hamtaro or Pokémon.

Well, there was the first season's opening theme where Pikachu runs between a girl's legs, lifting her skirt a little bit. That caused some controversy. Heh heh.

To be fair, ALL dance scenes at the end of every CGI film, and they all have one, are awkward, pointless, and uncomfortable. I dunno why I noticed the one in Megamind so much though. Probably because I'm so overdosed on the Trope I can't take it anymore.

I admit it. Not the best movie out there, but I still like it. Grew up with it and will love it no matter how it is. It's not bad, just not as good as it could have been

Also, most anime fans like this movie because the animation was done in JAPAN CellSeam. It technically IS an anime movie. Originally, there were rumors that Ghibli was supposed to do it but dropped out, and a lesser known studio picked it up for American marketing, hence the more cartoony visuals.
  • trlkly

It takes more than being drawn in Japan to be anime.
  • DeathsHead419  - Er, no
    avatar
The only definition of "Anime" is an animated-cartoon made in Japan. This is the only thing that word designates.
  • Atwosheds  - Re: DeathsHead419
    avatar
Technically your right, but in the last ten years or so the definition has changed a bit. The word anime was used to replace the word "Japanimation" because the prefix "jap" could be perceived as a slur against Japan. However it has more recently been used to describe any animation that has a certain type of look. For instance, many shows that where created in Japan where redone in other countries yet still maintain the same look and style of an anime. The word no longer simply means a cartoon made in Japan. Just like the word manga means a type of comic book style, not a comic made in Japan. For that I would reference such "mangas" as Rick-oh the story of Ricky (from China), or the Crow (from USA). Long story short, your right but the true definition of a word is in it's use and therefore changes when a majority of people use the word a certain way. When the first English dictionary was written by English schoolteacher Robert Cawdrey in 1604 All he did was go around and ask people what the words they use meant and wrote down the definitions that where universally accepted.

Yeah, but your stupidity is what unleashed it in the first place.

And it was told by the king who knew the magic word and where the guy was, and could have killed him off instantly.
  • Moreno X
Including, we could have cease plot-holes and Inception jokes that we would see immediately more character development from the Nightmare King and stuff. But nope, stupidity and irresponsibility are the subtle things this film is aquired for us to be annoyed (and tortured, mentally).
  • Yeahwhatever
I know. Don't you just love it when a children's film actually expects even the dumbest audience to buy that a main character deserves to be paraded on the shoulders of everyone as the conquering wonderful hero for merely fixing the mistake that he made.

Even as a kid, when this was done over and over and over again in so many films, I always called bullshit on it.

The most that Nemo actually deserved in end was getting lightly punched in the back of the head by the king and told "Good job, now don't ever fucking be that stupid again."

Does anyone else find it odd that out of all of the flight references they could've made for the squirrel, they picked Icarus?

When I saw the title, I honestly thought it was going to be that movie. But no, looks like there was another Nemo before. And yes, the Nightmare King should have a better voice than that one, something like Keith David. Great review and love all the references.

I was also thinking Keith David, the actor who played the voice of Goliath in "Gargoyles."

I proffered Tony Todd or Tony Jay to do the voice they do better Evil deep voice! Keith David I link too much to Golieth and Spawn!

I also agree with your opinion with Tony Todd. He did an awesome job as The Fallen in Transformers 2.

When I first saw this title, I thought, "What? Finding Nemo isn't nostalgic."

And now I'm actually curious to read the original comic.

well reading might be kinda hard as if I ecall properly it was a silent/wordless comic it was just pannels!
  • BigManX

Shhhh no one here has read that book or saw that movie every one thinks Nemo is a freaking Fish! Also, before that he was actually an alias of Odysseus he gave to the cyclops before he blinded him so that he's yell, "Nemo Blinded me!" because the word nemo actually means nobody in latin!

Great review; I agree this film is trippy and makes little sense, but it still holds a special place in my heart. I used to watch it a lot as a kid, and I loved the sense of wonder it promoted.

Regarding the Nightmare King, his voice in Spanish was much more threatening (oh, yeah, I'm from Puerto Rico, so I watched it in Spanish) It was really deep, and kind of reverberated, which I feel would have given him more character if they had done it in the English version as well.

The only thing I always found extremely stupid was the magic spell to activate the scepter; I haven't heard it in English, but in Spanish it was beyond retarded - you just can't make the word 'pajama' sound magical. The idea that such a spell would vanquish 'nightmare' is... weird.

And that's what this film is as a whole - weird. I haven't seen it recently, but I suspect that kids (who's expectations are lower) might be more forgiving towards it than adults.
  • jovaskig  - Incoherent magic word
'you just can't make the word 'pajama' sound magical. "

So the incoherent yelled word the kid used to make the scepter was pajama?

NC could have done a joke on the babbled word and how it is similar to the garbled word that kid Bastian yelled in Never-ending Story.
  • Lermont
You'd have to think about what kind of parents would name their kid "Nobody".

The original creator was probably just a fan of Jules Verne.

"You'd have to think about what kind of parents would name their kid "Nobody"."

So that Nobody could get all the credit for stuff. Like, whenever someone says "Nobody loves me", that kid could be all, "Hi, I'm Nobody, and I love you." And s/he could read that Emily Dickinson poem "I'm Nobody! Who Are You?" without irony.

I wonder why Jules Verne would name a character "Nobody."

"First of all, if you're going to stay on my submarine, you'll have to pull your own weight. Secondly, my name is Captain Nobody, and you'll address me as such. Do you understand so far?"

I read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea! I was in middle school, and I kind of liked it.

Oh, so Nemo was the name used in The Odyssey! Interesting.
  • Granten
Considering what 'Nemo' and Odysseus were like...yeah. Either those parents weren't exactly nice or they never bothered to actually learn what was in the stories*.

*Given how famous stories are treated in real life I'm betting on this one.
  • Blues  - Mistaken
famous stories weren't treated in the way you're suggesting at the time it was written. Little Nemo is very old, created when comic strips and comic strip characters were booming but before comic books.

Nemo was probably used in the same sense as Link, Nemo being any random little boy and not a character himself.
  • Blues  - My bad
seems you were only coming at it jokingly from the parents naming a kid that.
