I remember watching Rookie of the Year as a kid. I don't remember much of it, apart from the fact that it was directed by Daniel "Marv from Home Alone" Stern. How interesting is that? I'm surprised he could direct with all those bricks and irons to the forehead.
One film I'm surprised you missed is Ed, which features Matt Le Blanc moving up the baseball ranks... with a monkey. I'm dead serious. Also, in the memorable quotes section, Le Blanc actually says, "I am going to spank that monkey!" Speechless.

06.09.2008 - 08:32 | evagirl77YES! A new one! Frankly, I thought sport films were dumb. I only ever liked the Little Giants and the Sandlot. AND THE SLOW CLAP NEVER WORKS IN REAL LIFE! Trust me, I tried.

I totally agree. The only exceptionally good children's sport movie I've seen was The Sandlot, that is, the original, not the sequels. Mighty Ducks was mediocre, Air Bud was lame, Angels in the Outfield was lame, and I have yet to see The Karate Kid, Cool Runnings, and Little Giants. But The Sandlot was awesome, an instant classic.

06.09.2008 - 10:01 | MattatoThe Cheerios 2 reference was awesome. Oh God, is the disembodied voice back to kick his ass again?
That said, the only sports movie I ever liked was Remember the Titans, and that wasn't even really about sports so much as it was racial relations.

This one had some great jokes. The Cheerios in-joke, for example, was quite welcome and that one about the Cubs was priceless.
It's great to see that you're shaking up the format a bit. It's not like any of your other reviews and it's definitely not like any of your Top 11 lists, but it's still very much a NC production.
So why is it, when you're doing so many things differently, that you keep starting your reviews with "You know..."? That really bugs me. Space Jam started that way, the Theme Song countdown started that way... it just seems like such a terrible segue into the routine proper.
That said, I think you did a great job of reviewing several movies that were only linked by genre. You should take this approach to a series of movies. Might I suggest the Muppets?
