XD I wanted to do that so bad!! Dammit.
Either way who didn't love the Juggernaut after that video?
Secondly Gambit was my all time favorite in that show. Gambit and Morph made that show for me and I still loved it to this day.
Oh and Apocalypse is by far the best villain of the series. Better than Magneto! Why?
Deadpool: Hey Magneto! Where YO CURLY MUSTACHE!?! Y U SO PRINGLES?!?!?

Reply to JM:
Maybe they should have named the character "Master of the Obvious Mold"?
:-P
OT:
It's good to see someone else besides me point out that the "Dark Nella" arc is a pretty pointless macguffin; and a rather poor one, too. I know Lindsay and Nella are putting some real effort into it. But there comes a time when you need to cut bait and move on.

That part always made me laugh. Big, Bad Sentinel couldn't do jack just because he was still plugged into the wall (and it was appropriately his Achilles Heel I believe).
And the way he said it in that deadpan robotic voice just made it so much better.
Man, that's gotta be the robotic equivalent of getting killed while on the toilet.
-
04.08.2011 - 22:23 | ThatguywiththeburitoWhenever someone says, "I'm still plugged in!" it reminds me of Surrogate. I don't know why XD.
-
I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers that. I laughed like hell and I use that line now when I can't do something.
Are you leaving work early today?
Me: I AM STILL PLUGGED IN!

04.08.2011 - 23:01 | JackredluMyeah Rogue was awesome, but what always got me wondering was that later in the series they have these collars that take away mutant powers, these would explode or something if you removed them.
WHY on earth couldn't Beast modify those for Rogue so she could wear those if she ever wanted to make out!
that still bugs me sometimes.
-
09.30.2011 - 11:55 | TheGunslingerBecause that would remove her ANGST. Every character in this show had to be angsty about something, and that was her angst-thing.

Hey, DW gets a mention! Awesome!
Anyways, I loved the X-Men cartoon. It did have strong characterization and stories. Still, all other X-Men series (Evolution, Wolverine and the X-Men) are pretty enjoyable too.
As a side note, both Rogue and Beast have super endurance and were able to take those blasts easier than Morph.

I'm glad you tote X-Men Evolution and Wolverine & The X-Men. A lot of times these do get blasted simply because "It's not the 90's X-Men". While I agree that the 90's X-Men show is one of a kind, there are positive aspects of the two newer ones as well.
As a side note, yes, I do remember Jubilee and Beast being rather useless in the show. The ONLY time I've ever seen theme do something significant is here:
http://www.youtube.com/ watch? v=WWTad94mre8&feature=rel ated
and here:
http://www.youtube.com/ watch? v=_8HkDMht3d4&feature=rel ated
But I digress. Jubilee at least has the honor of being an assist character in Marvel VS Capcom 1.

I would assume that he calls Wolverine over every time that happens to make the door just a bit wider. Although, that mental imagine of Xavier stuck in a door makes me laugh.
As for the cartoon, I enjoyed it a good bit when I was younger but I never really watched it religiously. I remember these episodes though. Jubilee, and us, being introduced to the X-Men, everyone taking on the Sentinals, and good old ... what's-his-face taking the laser for Wolverine. Definitely cool and enjoyable.
I hope you make more episodes of this segment, because I enjoy seeing these initial episodes again. The funny commentary is a nice bonus as well.

I assure you NC, nobody cares about weather or not the distressed watcher has reviewed this, or anything.
But, the fact that the chick reviewed X-men, raises the question as to why the chick reviewed X-men. I thought her whole concept was to review the "girly" things that the critic couldn't/wouldn't. Then again, it makes perfect sense that the chick would just up and review whatever she wants, I'm sure if she reviewed another show targeted at girls she would go on yet another feminist rant.
-
04.06.2011 - 01:13 | Dyad44
I think the reason why she's reviewing other stuff as well as girly stuff is for the same reason she got rid of that catchprase, 'I remember it cause the dudes don't.' I think she said once that she thought the catchphrase was anti-feminist because (according to her) it sends the message that girly stuff wouldn't seem important enough to be reviewed by a man. So I guess that's why she's reviewing other stuff too.

When i was kid, i was totally confused by this cartoon. i love X-Men and i was an avid reader of the comic book, but the cartoons had too much talk and exposition for me that sometimes i did fell asleep watching it.
But one episode i remember was when they arrived in an island and the X-Men suddenly lost their powers. I love that episode, and i think it was a very tense moment in the series.
But it does confuse about the Sentinels. Why would the government create them? I mean, TSA body scanners are bad enough, but giant-ass robots used to catch mutants? Is the government really that stupid?

You're kidding right?
Nope, you're absolutely right, he clearly hates women because they can't program VCR's...he needs to be set straight on that one.
Now shut up and make me a sammich!! *I'm putting this note here to tell you that the previous line was a joke and is NOT to be taken seriously....seems you need things like this pointed out.*
-
04.06.2011 - 19:35 | DwaneYou're objecting to the women jokes (plural)? Really? There was really only one cut on women, and it was a pretty weak one. The joke with Jubilee on the table wasn't even a joke against women as much as it was against the two guys, and by NC's standards, it was pretty tame. If you're so thin skinned you can't handle a VCR joke, perhaps you should go elsewhere for entertainment.

I love this show as a kid. The only problem I had was that it was like a soap opera or a anime, if you miss one episode you could be really lost on what was going on with all of the series' story arches.
Plus, I always wonder hide they could hide a ten stories tall robot. Behind a building of course.
Okay, one serious question, why in the title sequence he introduce as "The Beast" but through out the whole show he was just called "Beast"? Why the "the" there? Why is it only Beast gets a "the" and no one else?
I suggest the next Raiders of the Lost Story Ark to be Gargoyles. Yes it is awesome but that show has plot holes.

I know he did and I love that episode of NC but he could still do it as a Raiders of the Story Ark. Believe me, they is material there. Gargoyles were able to repair a helicopter.......Again they had the resources, part and know how to repair, upgrade and trick out a helicopter. God, there is no logic in kids show is there!?

Saturday Mornings, 10am, that was one of the best times of my childhood.
I still love the show to this day, and that theme music still pumps me up. 10 puppies died by my fists in this review alone. I had to punch SOMETHING, right?
Though even as a kid it simply bugged the HELL out of me how beast was locked away all throughout the first season. Yeah, they made it up to him in later episodes, but for that first year it was just so awkward.
And if there's ever a follow-up to this, I'd love to see Doug talk about the last half of the final season when it changed to a different animation studio...in other words, when the show was given it's death sentence. Seriously, we're talking ugly, UGLY art, and the episodes by then were already increasingly stupid.
To this day, if I ever come across the Christmas, or worse, the Jubilee Storytime episodes, I pull a Zangief and quickly change the channel!

I watched this on Blip since it wasn't up an hour ago. It was hilarious.
I loved the X-men cartoon growing up. I can certainly agree though that it is silly in most parts these days, but that's what makes our childhood awesome.
Points to you and your cool brother for the Dark Rob stuff. I had to pause the video since I was laughing so hard.
BTW, I had a crush on Rogue too but I was confused about it since I was still young and not bi at the time.
And now my personal confession is done.
Oh, and I just died on those jokes you made about women. I'm a girl myself but seriously, that was hilarious.
Until the next awesome video Sir Critic!!!
(PS: People need to stop hating so much on the Nostalgia Chick. Seriously people, if you don't like what she does just don't watch and shut up about it. There are plenty people, myself included, that like what she does and want to see it continue.)
-
there are also plenty of us who want to be nostalgic about movies and shows that were targeted to the female audience. It would be nice if us girls had a someone to review things we watched growing up. X-men I think everyone watched so I didn't mind her reviewing it. I have to say though critic's review kicked chicks ass!
-
04.06.2011 - 01:09 | lidoegThe sentinels aren't technically built by the government only funded by them under the umbrella of "Mutant Control/Containment" because of the threat they cause to national security. They're actually built by Trask Industries, a private company who can produce all the weapons of death it wants under current US law (There's no current law saying giant robot death machines are illegal). Also Morph came back later with a better voice actor...and was evil...and was working for Mr. Sinister who is the best X-men villain ever, that's right fucking suck it Magnet-o, Mr. Sinister has it all over you
-
04.06.2011 - 08:49 | kyuuketsukiNo law explicitly stating that... no... BUT! I assure you that the Sentinels can be categorized as a WMD, thus rendering it illegal! I mean... just look at its fire power! It has more destructive power than a fleet of tanks!
Let's list what it can do and why they should have been illegal...
1) THEY WERE HUGE! I mean it crushed cars and trees, and I'm sure more than a few houses. That would cause extensive property damage, and being that they were sanctioned by the gov't, that means that the gov't had to take the heat for that.
2) They had fucking LASER BLASTERS! (Granted, I'm pretty sure they did that so that guns and blood would not be needed, because as I recall all guns shot basically lasers) But considering the size of the hand, the ammunition comparative would have to be either rockets or a bloody tank cannon! I could be wrong, and either way... Deadly lasers are we... deadly...
3) All sorts of lovely gases to abduct people. Does the government sanction abduction of innocent people just because of what they ar... wait... OH! I got it! In peace times, does the government sanction the abduction of people? Then again, the last time that happened Jubilee probably would have been screwed either way... (Thank you land of the free for Japanese Internment camps during WW2)
4)Those weighted throwing things that can bind a person's legs and metal whips (or so it seems)
5)Are capable of tactical thought, and some were later able to think for themselves!
I mean really... YOU go build one of those and see if YOU are not arrested for creating a terrorist weapon! Wait... wasn't Trask eventually arrested for his anti-mutant acts? Oh well...

Most notable for me is that this series had one of the funniest lines for a villain to say before he is defeated. It still makes me smirk every time I think about it.
For those of you who haven't seen it, but may want to.
*SPOILER WARNING*
Anywho, it comes in episode 7 of season one. Master Mold, The giant Sentinel who creates other Sentinels, is trying to escape before the complex is destroyed by a flood, But he isn't able to because...
Master Mold: "I am still plugged in!"
Ha!
