I think because I was very young at the time, and I wanted Bugs Bunny merchandise whenever I saw it, I enjoyed the ad. But then the opening of a Warner Bros store opened up some years later, and I had more merch than I could handle. :P
In any case... I do wonder how many people actually DID call those 1-900 numbers.

11.15.2010 - 22:21 | Kryss LaBrynGods only know how much I racked up on my parents phone bill calling the Knight Rider 1-900 line to hear KITT talk about how awesome the third season was going to be, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...
NO idea what each call cost. I hope it wasn't that much because I probably called it a couple of hundred times at least. Well, if my parents noticed anything on the phone bill they never said anything to me, so probably not that much. Luckily.
Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over..... XD
Also: Second the Nightmare bit. Awesome.

I love those old commercials. My favorite that wasn't shown here is the one for Pizza Hut that has the kids all playing around during a birthday party. There was even this weird moment where they were drinking soda through a kids head somehow by having straws go through one ear and out the other. I remember this one so well because it was on the front of my VHS copy of The Land Before Time and I watched it every time I put the tape in when I was a kid. It always made Pizza Hut look like the place to party as a kid.
Speaking of The Land Before Time...I love the first one, but the sequels deserve to be burned, or at least be made fun of.

11.10.2010 - 04:48 | Quantum Wolf
Lol I wish, it would be more entertaining than what's shown.
These hair commercials usually involve some ladies with completely fake shining hair making other people envious, with the various aspects of a certain product's shampoo explained. Talk about making somebody feel shallow.
Other hair commercials usually showcase the evil of dandruff. I swear the way these commercials talk about it, its as if dandruff is the spawn of Satan.

At any rate, sweet review! I remember some of these commercials and it's really sad that as a kid I could say the whole speech by that fast talking guy. I memorized it and wrote it down somewhere.
I don't remember anymore, obviously.
Also, I lol'd at the Nightmare Before Christmas parody. I started singing with you haha.
I didn't take you for a fan of that movie, it's way too overhyped. Still a good movie, though.

See? I told you guys to not take the Pet Monster ending so seriously!
It was fun seeing those classic commercials again. And screw the director of Pet Monster, has he invaded a country, took on a Wiseau movie, visited Ahnuld's house and many other great things? NO! Therefore, the real loser is him, not the Nostalgia Critic!

this was a really great review! I'm more a child of the 90s than the 80s, so I only remembered a few of them but the ones I did were a total blast from the past. I'd completely forgotten about half of them. Also, random nightmare before christmas-y number? excellent. keep it up, Critic! You make my every tuesday!

I have some good news for you :D
Not only did he voice the character of Bluur in Transformers the Movie, circa 1985, he also returned for fourepisodes of the recent Transformers Animated to reprise the role.
His IMDB page http://www.imdb.com/name/ nm0608321/
Shame on you for not knowing that *shakes head*
-
Yeah, his name's John Moschitta Jr. Damn, I remember when I saw Transformers The Movie (which came out in '86, by the way...), I waas like" Who the hell is this guy??!" Then, I saw one of these commercials, and I was like,"HOLY CRAP ITS THAT GUY!!". He's pretty epic. AND he holds the Guinness World Record for World's Fastest Talker, too!

Who else would love to see a musical style episode of the Nostalgia Critic?
...Hmmm, I don't see enough hands being raised.
*grabs gun and starts shooting in the air*
Hands up I say! HANDS UP FOR THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC MUSICAL!
Also, is there any chance we can hear the whole theme song that Sad Panda made for you?
-
11.09.2010 - 23:54 | pap64
Hell, they should do an entire Channel Awesome musical! You have MarzGurl's acapella skills, then Todd in the Shadows can play the piano, Sad Panda can sing and play guitar, Obscurus Lupa can do a sexy song, Skitch can provide video game inspired tunes, Spoony can do a rendition of a classic Disney song, Paw the music nerd can tell the story, and hell, even Linkara can do the chorus version of his theme song!
HELL YEAH LET'S FUND THIS PUPPY!

And Grandpa Josiah said, "Excellent suggestion!"
It could be like those "Retromercials" TV Land used to have (maybe they still do; I don't have cable) that they still got paid for since the products still existed, even if the ads themselves were ancient.
Yeah I know it'll never work since there are more degrees of separation between Internet content creators and advertisers these days than between me and Kevin Bacon. But a guy can dream.

in the apple jack's commercial, the girl that walks over and starts talking to the boy??? doesn't that look like julia styles??
-
11.09.2010 - 23:36 | hurtjak117I'd rather have these commercials than the Glee or other crap that plays before the videos.

I remember seeing commercials for Ninja Turtles soup and cereal, and I ate them all the way back since I was in pre-school.
Is it just me or is that girl in the Apple Jacks commercial a young Julia Stiles?
Who DOESN'T remember Crossfire?
I remember, and memorize, the Fruity Pebbles Christmas commercial like it was yesterhour.
I also frackin’ love Transformers, including the commercials. I have quite a big collection. The ones I have on display are the movie based characters, because I love the Michael Bay films.
Note: I anyone tells me different about the live-action films, ...well, let's just say “I rise, you fall.”
In speaking of Transformers, the Micro Machines Man played the voice of the Autobot named Blurr, the fast talking one.
Was Wet Banana the original name of the Slip ’n’ Slide? If so, thank god for the parents who complained to the company.
19:19- Did anyone catch the NC/AVGN poster framed on the wall?
I really enjoy the “Nightmare Before Christmas” ending of this episode. Can't wait to see more reviews, Doug. Peace out.

11.09.2010 - 23:41 | DarklingA few things about this video.
If he went further back he would have found early eighties Applejacks commercials that DID claim it tasted like apple.
Popples were NOT all sports toys. The sports ones came second. The first popples were just coloured animals that turned into the furry animal things when you pulled them out of their self-made pocket. The sports themed ones came later.
I miss Giggles cookies. They actually tasted really good. I wish they'd bring them back. I love the Micro machine guy.
Oh, my GOD! Ecto cooler for the win! That WAS the coolest drink ever! I drank it all the time as a kid. I always pretended it was ectoplasm. And it was so tastey. It was a lime punch. That was the best tasting ghost slime ever!
...
Can't stop laughing. Jack Skellington-Critic too funny... might have to change pants...
Seriously, I've been a hard core Nightmare before Christmas fan since 1993. That was epic!
-

Awesome Sauce! NC Rocks! Now, TURN THE GAS OFF! TURN THE GAS OFF! YOU'RE KILLIN ME OVER HERE SMALLS!
And we don't need santa clause! we have Santa Christ!!!
*sigh* on a serious note, man those commercials take me back. can i go back to being a young kid?....but without my father spanking me every five minutes or stupid school bullies?....dam i'm screwed either way. oh well. I'll remember the TV fondly anyway.
-
11.09.2010 - 23:45 | Darrell KaiserKind of a pointless episode. I guess he really thought we were gonna swallow the fact that he was going to quit. And, yes, that was Julia Stiles (the MEGA BITCH) as the snooty bitch in the Apple Jacks commercial? Talk about type casting!
