I think we can all agree that even Weird Al Yankovic does a much better performance in UHF than Tommy Wiseau, Carrot Top, or the entire cast in the Flinstone Movie.
You know what? I wouldn't be surprised if The Nostalgia Critic was inspired in his acting by Weird Al Yankovic's. Allow me to explain, on the DVD of UHF, yes there's a DVD, there's a special feature where Weird Al hosts the deleted scenes. He criticizes his own deleted scenes in a funny way.
And for those of you wondering, The Nostalgia Critic probably won't review UHF. Why do you ask? Because it's a hilarious movie, it doesn't treat the audience like morons, the jokes are relevent to the time it was released, those jokes are still relevent to today, it has a few big lipped alligator moment; which you could kind of say is product placement for his parody song Beverly Hillbillies, but those segments still work out well. It's an awesome movie, but it's probably more funny the first time you watch it but it's not like Rat Race where you lose the humor the second time you watch it.

I just saw some of his stand-up on YouTube, including what he did on the Tonight Show. I would say that about three fourths of his material is funny. One of the commenters said that we have to at least appreciate a guy who always lugs around a trunk of homemade props, and I agree. Maybe that explains his forearms.

Add me on to the group who would watch "Critic and Trout." I think it has a lot of promise. And by that I mean it has to be better than most of the crud on TV these days. -_-
Seriously though, Carrot Top :sigh:
That's really all you need to say. It's not to say that Carrot Top is completely unfunny, because he can definitely be funny. A movie, though? There was no way on any planet that it would be a good idea or would turn out good. Ah well, keep up the good work Doug. =)

09.07.2010 - 23:12 | Darrell Kaiser"Why would he be wearing the Bull Shirt to begin with?"
WHY do you keep doing this Critic?! The answer to your question is in the film itself. He had coffee spilled on his first shirt and it was the quickest replacement he had available. Don't point out a plot hole when there isn't one to start with!

-
09.08.2010 - 07:59 | Darrell KaiserOh, nice job backing up your buddy and all. (look at his avatar) And check your grammar. "Had to have?"
Also, he had to watch the movie to review it in the first place, so that means he sucks too, according to you. He could have written another joke around that scene, but he wasn't being observant, as a real critic should be. That way, their credibility is not in jeopardy.
-
09.08.2010 - 22:22 | mx1349
He watched this movie for the purpose of a review. You apparently watched it just for entertainment value, which makes you lame. Oh, that and the fact that you're just a troll.
And yes, I've met Doug, and he's one of the nicest guys ever, which is a lot more than I can say about you. Seriously, can't you just watch the review and have fun?
-
09.09.2010 - 04:55 | WerminYou were the one trolling him and now you say to have fun?
-
09.09.2010 - 17:10 | DeathmooseUhh.. what's wrong with "had to have"? I don't care about internet grammar, unless someone calling somebody out on bad grammar is calling them out incorrectly. Then it's just embarrassing.
-
09.10.2010 - 18:42 | Darrell KaiserThe sentence would have worked better as "you actually had to watch the movie."
-
09.07.2010 - 23:25 | kevwafflesOk, you wanna play that game? Why was he anywhere near the shirt, which I assume would be in the invention room, to begin with? Even if that has a valid answer or that he just knew where the shirt was, why didn't he know what it did? And even if that has a valid answer, how did he not feel the devices and wiring inside the shirt and think, "Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't wear a shirt that clearly has electrical devices in it and was created by my arch nemesis?" Even if he thinks Edison is incompetent, he should at least think the shirt could electrocute him.
And if you want to answer that he just needed a shirt that badly that he had to risk it, then he could have gone to any middle management employee, offered him like $200, and he has a new shirt. So even if you don't want to call it a plot hole, it's still idiotic and lazy writing, and you should not be defending it because NC didn't feel like turning a 5 second joke into a 5 minute diatribe.
-
09.08.2010 - 08:01 | Darrell KaiserYes, he did get it from the Invention Room, since he's on a power trip after gaining control of the company and firing everyone. That’s where he gets the coffee spilled on his shirt. He didn't know that his replacement shirt was the Bull Shirt, since it looks like a regular shirt, except when you lie, it lights up and makes fart noises.

-
09.08.2010 - 07:49 | Darrell KaiserHe's been doing this far too often by trying to point out plot holes, but if you watch the film, there isn't one. I do hope that these are covered. I also hope that there is a section devoted to Last Action Hero.
-
09.08.2010 - 13:27 | The_CoolerKing@Darrell Kaiser: I know right? It's unbelievable! If you can't trust an internet celebrity who watches cartoons and shouts obscenities, who CAN you trust...??
-
09.08.2010 - 19:40 | QarxFUCKING NOBODY! WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO WHEN PEOPLE LIKE DOUG CAN'T GET EVERY SINGLE MINUSCULE FACT STRAIGHT WHEN HE'S REVIEWING SHITTY MOVIES?!
Gotta love sarcasm. Also gotta love trolls who seem to either hate the Nostalgia Critic or love Chairman of the Board.
-
09.10.2010 - 18:40 | Darrell KaiserThis criticism is not on the scale of the things pointed out in the Fuckups episodes. Most of those retain to either being Doug's opinion or making simple mistakes. They retain to him, once again I say, pointing out flaws in the film that aren't even there. He's be doing it more lately and I hope in the future he'll look things over better, so he can improve.
-
09.11.2010 - 13:07 | QarxIn the end, though, does it really matter? Does it bother you that much that Doug made a small mistake, especially on THIS movie? You DO realize that Douchy McNitpick exists to make fun of people like you, right?
-
09.14.2010 - 20:02 | Darrell KaiserOver looking stuff like that can lower your credibility by others. Maybe not for you, but it will for others. I've made plenty of mistakes recording my reviews, but I do try to catch them early and have them edited out, so problems like that won't occur. Doug should follow that example. It's not like he DOESN'T have the Internet to check.

This exchange depresses me. Honestly, is it wrong to make an intelligent criticism of the critic? No. Darrell Kaiser was right that the Nostalgia Critic shouldn't mock things that make perfect sense.
I'm a fan of the critic, but I don't want to see the day when the only thing people are allowed to say on the comments board is "LOL Great Review!!"

Your review seemed a little rushed, and it was really short. I like your 20 minute reviews. I can't get enough you, NC!
And I know you are in Austria right now. And I completely understand. But, you know, just saying.

If he was, then Dane Cook would have won the Pulitzer Prize.
And this movie had 3 writers! THREE WRITERS!
Did i see a similarity between this and Space Jam? Both movies had more than two writers and both over uses close up angles.
The lesson is: Too many Cooks Spoil the Broth, especially when it involves unfunny gimmick comedians and sports players.
