Wait - I'm confused. Why would Tommy Wiseau have this vid taken down? He's not even mentioned in it.
EDIT: Now I'm REALLY confused. Why did my question about TW net me 4 Thumbs Down so quickly? All I want to know is what he has to do with this video; the comment I replied to said something about Tommy having this video taken down, and I honestly don't get it.
-
07.27.2010 - 23:09 | ZeldaQueenAn example of him never living it down. After he took of the Critic and Obscurous Lupus's reviews, he shall always be remembered as "That douche who ruins fun and takes down videos".

I think we all need to move past the Wiseau thing and actually comment on this review.
So, why no comment on the fact the he has conversations with his ghost dad?
*insert Cosby joke here*
It's never really made clear if he's hallucinating this or not. I myself am haunted by the spirit of my grandfather, Grandpa Mask. He constantly shouts at me from the bathroom.
Get a job!
SHUT IT GRAMPS! *clears throat* I'll tell you this, the only thing worse than a "ghost that walks" is a ghost that won't leave your bathroom.

Sorry to replying to be in the first page (I´m scum), but I am sooo god looking, and now, with by thumbnail, the whole world will be able to see it.
Well since I´m responding, I will say something about the Room, did you notice how Jonhy and Mark (the Tommy Wiseu character, and the friend that is having sex with he´s wife) are running in the park, then it cuts to Jonhy´s house when we see Mark and Lisa (Jonhy´s wife), and then it cuts back to the park, where Mark is STILL RUNNING WITH JONHY. No ot´s not some "memory shot" this two scenes (Lisa getting ready to the party, and Jonhy jogging with Mark) are supposed to occour at the same time, and Mark is in BOTH PLACES, at the same times, talking about a plot hole.
Speaking of talking, how handsome doI look? By Good, I´m gorgeous.
-
07.28.2010 - 19:31 | Pye Like EyeGood point. MARK IS MAGIC.
And, by the way you are acting like a narcissistic douche, as well as the fact that you mixed up 'good' and 'god', I'd assume you're simply trying to annoy everyone. Congratulations, for I, at least, am mildly pissed.
Now, on to the review: I really couldn't get past the purple suit, probably because I never saw the movie and am unfamiliar with the comics. What was the villains motivation? Why is he such a cliche evil villain?
Nice ending joke.

07.27.2010 - 22:40 | BloodySharpieIt was posted on the forums that the "Old Vs. New: War Of The Worlds" video would be delayed indefinitely.
-

I didn't see that post. Oh well, even if the War of the Worlds Old vs. New is being delayed, we still have great videos like this one in the pipeline. =)
Nice review Critic. It does pretty much seem like a sub-par Inidiana Jones copycat, even if the writer is the same. I especially liked your reaction to seeing Catherine Zeta Jones, just like in your Top 11 Villain Songs. It's still funny. XD
I look foward to next week's video.

though I thought this was a great review. funny, and not sure why he WAS wearing purple. but I hope someone can tell me if or when War of the Worlds is going to be reviewed?
I was really looking forward to it as many were

I feel like that because of Tommy Wiseau, we haven't had our Nostalgia Critic in a while! But now he's back! Take THAT, Wiseau! You can't stop him, only delay him!
Gosh! The Phantom looks like a gay Zorro without the hat and cape when he first comes out on that horse!
And I SO want to see a Kryptonian cheetah! That would make Krypto the dog look like a sissy!
-
07.27.2010 - 22:44 | Marshmallowcreampie
I agree, this past week I've almost felt deprived of Nostalgia Critic. T_T Damn that Wissau... On the plus side, that "Tommy Wissaeu Show" skit NC did was almost worth having The Room review taken down and delaying other reviews. XD
Regarding this review, I've seen The Phantom comic strip in my newspaper but didn't really read it. I never evn knew a movie was made. O_O

No.
I don't really see the point of being so butthurt because one NC episode was taken down. Seriously. This goes to you too, Doug. You're just embarrasing yourself, not Wiseau.

07.27.2010 - 23:37 | The Angry Movie Dork
No I'm not, I still am not a fan of The Room and taking down everyone's reviews like a butthurt crybaby was just not cool of Mr. Wiseau(I never even heard of him or The Room until NC's review).
I just don't think he's the next Uwe Boll.
And I now know how hard it is to talk sh*t about someone or their movie when you just met them and they were are nice to you.
-
07.28.2010 - 06:44 | dennett316
I'm sorry, but as bad as Mr Boll is he's nowhere near as incompetent as Wiseau. In fact, many have stated that Boll's latest flick Rampage is actually very watchable...including Brad 'Cinema Snob' Jones.
Wiseau is in a class of his own in terms of outright butchering of the medium, Boll is nowhere close.
-
07.28.2010 - 11:42 | adrasl300Well Uwe Boll is more of a jerkass about it since he doesnt seem to have any respect for the franchises he is butchering. Tommy Wiseau is just hilariously incompetent.

07.27.2010 - 23:41 | paperclipmousewhy would you defend that fuck nugget? he is wrongfully suing the NC when he is within the law and is not actually breaking it? tommy wiseau is just looking for attention like a winy stubborn little kid that just wants whatever he can get, like power to take down the room review.
-
07.29.2010 - 00:19 | The Angry Movie Dork
I doubt he'll successfuly sue NC, there's a thin line between stricly using movies to make money and using little snippits of a film with your own commentary for satire and education purposes only. I lauphed mostly at NC's commentary and jokles and learned alot about The Room from his review alone. You can't get sued for that, it's called fair use.

I agree with foxguy, this movie isn't nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The action is a little mediocre, but the movie still looks fine. NC also managed to leave out all of the funny bits in the movie. The characters defied a lot of the typical conventions at the time by making the damsel in distress archetype far more interesting to watch and I found The Phantom himself to be winsome enough. I always saw this movie as a fun, light hearted superhero flick that was almost designed as a parody and a tribute. Not every film has to be an epic masterpiece like the dark Knight to be enjoyable. Hell, even ebert liked this movie, just look up his review for it. Anyway, that's my take on the thing.
-
07.28.2010 - 13:58 | Rockabore
I was thinking the same thing. I know this movie wasn't the greatest but it wasn't the worst comic to movie adaptation maybe because it was based off a comic strip and not a comic book.
I get the running gag about the purple spandex but at least for me I could get over it because it was true to the creator's design (who knows why he chose purple) but it wasn't that much of an annoyance.
-
07.28.2010 - 20:59 | Tentacles
In truth though, you really can't get more obvious than purple.
-
08.01.2010 - 00:10 | Rockabore
-
08.11.2010 - 11:35 | Cameron WinterWonder no more, for I come with answers as to "Why Purple?"
Well, its for the same reason that the Hulk is green, the X-men wore yellow and Blue in their original form, Spider man wears Red and Blue and Batman is a kind of bluey-grey.
In the early part of the 20th century, comic books were printed on very cheap paper, with a limited palet of coloured inks available. As a result, certain colours became predominant, mostly red and blue, because theses were cheap.
When designing the Phantom, the artists wanted to give a sense of mystery and menace to the character, but because of the contraints of the limited colour palet, they couldn't make him black, so they went with the darkest colour they had available, purple. Thus, this becomes the coulour the character would be painted in every version down the decades.
And incidently, the Critic mentions he figured this movie would be made in the 50's, well there WAS an RKO serial matinee version, that ran through the late 40's and early 50's. And while the character was never really big in AMerica, the Phantom was HUGE in Europe, especially in the 40's when he became an unofficial figurehead of sorts for the Belgian resistance against the Nazis in WW2.
