Thanks for using the Three Musketeers movie with Charlie Sheen, Tim curry, and Kiefer Sutherland in this top 11.

haha! This was great! I am tired of the "No!" in movies. Seriously...what does that change? Anyway great review!

You forgot a VERY common cliché! Villains killing their own men or some other helpless guy because they failed them or did a bad job.

This is usually done at the start of a film to establish the evilness of the villain and is incredibly common!
  • wraith203

He was only doing the cool clichés. If he does a stupid cliché video, that is more likely to be in there.

Thats not a cool cliche so it doesnt belong to this list
  • JohanTW
    avatar
True, I forgot about that :P Hope he keeps that in mind if he ever does a stupid cliché top 11!
  • LimeGreenSquid
    avatar
Well, neither is "no" or slow motion... Slow motion can be awesome, but is over-used in character face shots...
  • MrVoodoo999
    avatar
I immediately thought of the Joker shooting Bob in the parade scene. Good addition.
  • BIRA
cool video, the nooo gunslinger is awesome. B)
  • BIRA
    Hey NC

it's time to shot a new movie, this time, you, linkara, Brad Jones, and spoony could be gunlingers. Linkara looks like the sniper.
  • Psycho Maestro
Hadn't seen Tombstone in a long time, but just seeing that scene again makes me remember how goofy it was when he lost it like that.
  • moviemaster8510

loved the armor-up scene from hot fuzz.
  • dennett316
    avatar
That's got to be an honourable mention for a cliché list, it just looks so bad-ass every time...even in Hot Shots when he's loading up darts and other goofy stuff.
  • OriginalPatton
I agree it definately need that. Also notice how many STAR WARS clips he used. Damn. Also when I saw Anikin with Clone Troopers marching behind him I was actually a little scared by how Badass he looked even though he is a winer. Also I never really paid attention to the 'No' scene in STAR WARS Episode 3.

A new Bum Reviews AND new NC?

*Does the Sexy Cry in slow motion while humming a chorus with meaningless lyrics in my head*

And win on adding the Justice league straight line walk.

But, aw, no reference to the Incredibles and capes?

    NOOOOO!!!!!!
  • lizycat
    avatar
Its true pixar brought up the pointlessness of capes in Incredibles.
Also, "mano a mano" does not mean man to man, it means hand to hand. Although many people think this, it is incorrect. Sorry, NC
  • Quantum Wolf  - Ed-NO CAPES!
    avatar
Ha ha yeah, man I was so expecting that Doug would bring it up, especially since there's a clip from Toy Story 2 in the list.

On another note, a chorus will make anything epic, no matter what.

Hurray for TV Tropes and Ominous Latin Chanting!
    http://tvtropes.org/ pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ OminousLatinChanting

  • sam29
Funny thing is, he spelled it "mono a mono", which literally means "monkey to monkey". :woohoo:
  • nobigami92
actually, it means "hand to hand".
  • waterguyroks
    avatar
No, "mano a mano" means hand-to-hand. "mono y mono" which is what's in the review means "monkey and monkey". "Hombre a hombre" would be man-to-man. -_-
  • Paladin_Maple
    avatar
Nice catch I was about to say that myself, yay latin :)
  • srv_is_god88
Usually you're list aren't very funny but just really informative or interesting. I like seeing that side of you. But this time I like how you made it just as funny as your reviews. Great Job NC.
  • Dr Mike07
I am soooooo unhappy that this vid confirms the existence of Transformers 3
  • WillowRib

eh, just buy it after it comes out and fast forward past everything that dosent have Optimus, Starscream or Megatron in it. Thats what i did with ROTF, it looked more like an animators portfolio, but hey, it was sexy.
  • CR0D

What's the point on making "smart ass" remarks when you haven't even finished watching the Damn Freaking video? Crying out about being "1st" is so douchey.

Did somebody say "Klingon Choir"? B)

Good grief.. Klingon choir! All they did was say qa'pla over and over again. *lmao*
  • Cake

Personally, this was easily your best top 11, for countless reasons. It showed off key elements of many of my favorite action films, and was an episode that I could both laugh at intensely and agree with (mostly) at the same time. I have to say, I was expecting numbers 4 and 1, but that doesn't make them any less awesome (except when Darth Vader is involved, in which it's just partially childhood-crushing). Also, here's a random fact: the choir singing in the background in Phantom Menace was actually singing in Sanskrit, and the lyrics were from a Welsh poem. I'm not sure why John Williams chose that, but I'm also a sucker for epic choirs, so I really don't care.
  • Mattevansc3
Why Welsh? Because if you want a good male vocal you've got to go Welsh. Hell we even had a movie dedicated to our singing miners
  • Squeakybell
    Noooooooooooooooo!

That's my favorite cliche on here! It's so hammy and fun
  • Torchic91

    Awesome top 11 NC!

I liked your replacement for "Because I like to go one step beyond."
  • Fluffyman
    avatar
This is a comment praising your latest work. And I might make a funny emoticon...

Seriously, it's a very nice list and great use of clips including an unexpected "Venture Bros." reference.
  • InigoMontya
    avatar
"Hello my name is Inigo Montya.. You killed my father prepare to die!" The past father thing for him makes more sense if you read the book!
  • Vinny792
The main Bad Guy fights last because they save the encounter with the hero and vilain for the epic climax. If the badguy fought first, the movie would be over too soon.

And Doug, Star Wars Ep. 3 Was not a Puss out YOU LIE. Wouldn't you feel sad to loose your girlfriend after nearly burning to death near lava and became part machine for the rest of your life. And Just Because Hayden Christiansan's acting is piss poor, doesn't mean he was whining.

But These are AWSOME Cliches nonetheless.
  • Quantum Wolf
    avatar
To be fair, he JUST became Vader; he was still in that awkward bridge between wimp----badassness.

Trust me, later on (If you read a certain Darth Vader novel), he becomes the badass we all know and love.
  • Wiiranger87
though why do people think its its a wimpy moment. if u see the entire clip u see him down right pissed. at the clip when he heard that padme die, u see him bending metal, cracking and shattering glass, and ripping out of the cuffs.its an angry response to it, it all depends on how u look at it "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
nice top 11, this is one of my favorite since i really like the cliches u listed (except for the sexy cry, i didnt even know its a cliche.)
  • lizycat

    Shwarzeneggeer: YOU LIE!
    Sorry, had to add that

The evil laugh is so cliched but it ROCKS! Especially when Vincent Price is the one laughing. Good episode, NC!

    "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Funny story: The script called for me to say 'yes' but I gave it a little twist
  • mcmuffin315  - Thank you
thank you for always entertaining me
  • femaleperson21

lol, I couldn't possibly agree more with every single cliche posted. lol, slow motion is my favorite though. XD
  • tedzey  - good countdown

My favorite cliche of all time has to be "the past." Even spoony liked it enough to use in Kickassia.

Great review, and i'm looking forward to your opinion to one of my favorite childhood films, "Hook." I think Ruvio as being like the good version of Lucas. Also like to see how you look at the Want speech Hook gives that kid.

"I want a dolly! I want a cookie. Iwantiwantiwant! MEMEMEMEME! MINE MINE MINE MINE! NOW...NOW...NOW!!!"

"Your parents give you what you want... so they could shut you up."
  • UnicornFoal
    avatar
Well technically Doug likes it enough to use it in Kickassia, he just gave it to Spoony to use. ;) I was kinda expecting him to mention it, but the mention of Kickassia later on satiated me enough. xD
  • tiff-tiff86
Musical scores just for movie trailers? I think my Dad's sung in a few of those! :D
  • Solid_Gabriel
    avatar
Oh yeah, evil laughter  !!! I just love it! But the capes blowing in the wind cool too. I also wanna have a cape and a fan following me everywhere! :D
  • hera666
Mono y Mono? that means monkey and monkey in spanish lol
i think you meant mano a mano
  • Mides
El Crítico de Morriña claramente no está fluido en español. :P
  • aliendrone
    avatar
I thought the same ! mano y mano makes more sense :P

    GREAT TOP 11

    NOSTALGIA CRITIC RULES !!!

  • zeziemba

The NC could have used the clip in the Blues Bros. when Jakes girlfriend destroyed his apartment building as an example. :D
  • iceblade1545
    avatar
Hehehe! That was awesome. Gotta disagree about the slowmo though. It was cool when it first became a "thing," but directors are abusing the hell out of it these days.

My rule of thumb is that if you could cut about fifteen minutes out of a movie just by removing the slowmo, you've gone a little too far.
  • Xelrath
Yeah. Like the Prince of Persia movie. This had massive amounts of slo-mo, it seems. (and i am not counting the time-rewind-related slo-mos there) It's like every second hit he makes is slo-mo.
  • kyuuketsuki
I disagree... Slo-mo is cool when done right. I'm a martial arts movie fanatic. And with the exception of Bruce (who sorta needed it so people could actually SEE what he was doing), many martial arts films make use of slo-mo to dramatize crucial parts of the fight. For example, hero dodges and counters, then speed goes to normal as the villain falls. There are always right ways and wrong ways to do things. Unfortunately many directors use it as a general dramatic device when it is not. Hell, even in Sherlock Holmes it was used really well. However, more and more directors are using it to extreme levels and it shows, and instead of adding drama it detracts from it.
