Kind of funny you mention Randall Graves; occasionally, your voice reminds me of his.

Nice. I find this tribute fascinating. Can't wait to see the Halloween surprise. I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday.
-
10.13.2008 - 10:51 | Wardog - awesome...
that was incredible! I had no idea all those crazy posters i loved so much were all drawn by the same guy (yeah, I don't like CG posters either).
Drew Struzan, we salute you!!!...and we also salute you blowing off the NC

10.13.2008 - 10:52 | pl0xman123 - Did anyone read that at the end?
"Next week: A Special Halloween Surprise!"
SURPRISE?! Does that means you and the nerd will have your final FINAL battle?? YES! CAN`T WAIT!
-
10.13.2008 - 10:52 | Shadow20X6 - I had no idea
I feel really bad now that i never knew who the guy to thank for those posters was, But thank you for bringing him up. Drew Struzan, you are a Genius, and thank you for your contributions

Damn. Great job giving this talent some well deserved recognition. Pretty great stuff.
-
10.13.2008 - 10:59 | cyclopsfan1 - amazing
I loved his art and almost had me rebuy the indie
jones dvds just for the art. Shame they didnt use
the hellboy ones.

Back in the 90's, there was a series of trading cards called "Star Wars Galaxy", and in the third series of said cards, they actually had a whole subset devoted to Struzan's work for the Star wars universe, from his movie posters to his novel covers.
I still have those trading cards in a binder somewhere.

Wow, never knew about this guy before, like Don LaFontaine. I do notice that he has a habit of making the heads of the main characters bigger than anything else on the poster.
-
10.13.2008 - 11:06 | hamsterjelly - 2 guesses on what the surprise is
first off, great tribute NC. here are my guesses to the surprise. it is either:
The FINAL Final battle between Nc and Avgn
or
a review of a horror franchise like halloween, nightmare on elm street, or friday the 13th.
or it might be a less known series, like child's play or the Leprechaun films.

Drew Struzan, I salute to you for your amazing drawing skills and making the movie posters so beautiful and alive!
-
10.13.2008 - 11:15 | blushapple - Wow
I had no idea the same guy painted all of those. I saw that Hocus Pocus poster in there. As if that movie didn't kick ass enough.
Feel proud NC. Your hard work at being a jackass finally paid off.
He seems like a cool guy though. Most artists are. I try to draw and I can do okay but I will never be as good or patient as him. He must've gone through sleepless weeks trying to finish all of those posters.

I didn't know he did the picture of the gunslinger in the 'Mist'. I sure hope he does the Dark Tower poster when those movies comes around.

Y'know, sometimes we really take extravagant movie posters for granted. As an artist myself, this video fascinated me and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the art of the movie poster as well as Drew Struzan, a name I had never heard before but his works that you've shown really blew me away ("He did the "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" posters?!" :o )
An honest, wonderful tribute (with a nice touch of classic Nostalgia Critic humor). Great video and I'm totally curious about that Halloween surprise. ;D
-
10.13.2008 - 11:49 | shameonpretzel - VERY nice tribute, NC!
Funny; in the back of my mind, I wondered if you would attempt to get an interview with the man himself. Oh well - at least you tried.
Again, excellent tribute. Keep up the good work!

-
10.13.2008 - 11:59 | Geoffrey - Genius!
It's such a shame they don't make posters like that anymore. Struzan is a hero and his artwork is responsible for me having seen almost EVERY crappy movie in the 80s and 90s!

-
10.13.2008 - 12:15 | bobesponjaWOW - Informative
Very informative, in my opinion movie posters help grab the attention of movie goers that wish to watch a good movie, however the last Indiana Jones poster in my opinion was really poorly made has well as the movie which was horrible. I don't care how much money it made I thought that the movie was just horrible.

I absolutely loved your footnote Doug
"If we were to judge a book by its cover, every movie Drew Struzan ever worked on was an epic masterpiece"
paraphrased a little, but that made me smile. Thanks for bringing this guy to our attention

-
10.13.2008 - 12:27 | DisposableJustice
Wow that is pretty dam awesome that one guy did a majority of all of those cool movie posters; great video NC
-
10.13.2008 - 12:40 | AlucardsQuest - Hmm...
Brief, but noteworthy and interesting. Not quite as "Critical" as you probably could have been, but then again this is a tribute video. Also...
I thought AVGN had killed you!!! Thank God. Or rather, was this filmed beforehand? Nevermind, I imagine that AVGN vs. NC will wrap itself up within it's own context and not here.
