03.24.2010 - 09:03 | wolfsong_ampYeah it was, but what he didn't say was that the movies were based on a book by the name. Plus the whole book is the plots to both the first movies and this one, so he can't blame the guys for making the movie for staying true to the book. The only difference in this movie and the book is that the evil queen was the one who was in-charge of the 'Nothing.'
-
Except that the second movie didn't stay true to the book at all! Pretty much everything that makes no sense or is annoying as hell (I'm looking at you, Nimbly) was made up by the script writers and the whole message was changed.
In the book Xayide was more of a side character and not resposible for Bastian's forgetting about the real world. She also wasn't in charge of the Nothing. In fact she had absolutely nothing to do with that.
And the book's second half (the one they losely based this crap on) did have a subtle message: It was that, while enriching life with fantasy is great, escapism is bad.
The movie's message was: Don't let idiotic screenwriters try to adapt a great book.

Absolutely right. Strong call.
It is as if the makers of the first movie made every correct decision about what to take from the book and the second movie took what was left.
The fact that this movie failed was one of the saddest movie-watching experiences I have ever had; Neverending Story 3 is an abortion of a movie.
-
:0 Um..that's not Fantasia, kid... that's the sunken city of R'lyeh! "...The nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh…was built in measureless eons behind history by the vast, loathsome shapes that seeped down from the dark stars. There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults."
ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
"In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming..."
Who knew the Neverending Story was a ruse for the NECRONOMICON??

A very good review for a very crappy sequel. However, it could have been a LOT worse. Example: Refer to movie 3 and yes, I can garantee you that your fans will be constantly bugging you from now on to review that movie no matter how hard to try to drown them out.
I do think you hit the biggest problem of the film with the kid being able to wish for everything to be fixed and villians to be defeated, ending the movie much sooner. I would have wished for that right off the bat.
Anyways, again, a good review and I will be looking forward to next week's Top 11.

Yah, I found out about it a few years ago. So when I saw the review of “Sidekicks” I couldn't help but think about that. (sigh)
I knew that the Critic didn't mean anything by what he said but it was still cool that he addressed it for others.
Thou I feel sorry for him because it's like Mako all over again.
-
I must say you aren't so apathetic after all. But, yeah that is messed up. I actually didn't know that before seeing this review.
I'm sad to say that I never saw the Neverending Story. I actually saw this movie first. Even as a kid I wasn't that impressed with it and as a result I was put off from seeing the first movie.
-
...did not hate this movie. Bastion (or however you spell it) really pissed me off. And I didn't like the new Atreyu either. Overall, it doesn't hold a candle to the first movie.
That being said, I didn't hate it. But it certainly wasn't anything super special either. I don't think it is a terrible movie, but it clearly lacks something that the original had.

Yeah, it's a bad one. Strange thing is, when I was young and watched franchises, I would watch the sequel first and then the first movie. Star Wars was a different story so don't argue. That was actually the only time I watched the first one first and the others throughout. However, I saw NeverEnding Story 2 first and enjoyed it as a kid. But, when I saw the first one after that, I was blown away. It was like listening to Brittney Spears and then switching to Mozart. Over the years, the more I watched Story 2 I relaized that it wasn't as good as I remembered it. Then, I learned about the negative reception years later and took another look. It was bad film alright. But I admit, some of the creatures were cool and at least they had the theme song.....even if it was revamped.
My only complaint is Fantasia in general. It looks too clustered. In the first, it was unlimited and had no "boundries" shall we say. In the second film, they have a silver city floating on acid, the Ivory Tower, the Hand Castle, and that's it. It too cramped. It's like trying to fit jugsaw puzzels into a can of tuna. Also, I can't stand Falcore's voice in the second. Too deep and not charming as in the first one.
Finally, as for the third one, it's obvious he won't do it. A friend of mine e-mailed his brother and the response was that they tend to look at "cinema-released" nostalgia. Funny you say, seeing how NeverEnding Story 3 did get released into theaters but in a limited run. Oh well, looks like it will get a Vaulting episode. Hope to have it out May. Till then, see you guys on the next upload....or response and good review Doug

-
03.23.2010 - 20:22 | bassbaitI like the einstein reference, but it is funny that people think there is a true "speed of light", when Einstein was actually wrong about it, the fact being that the speed of light is NOT constant. It is constant in a vacuum, but it's been proven to be both slowed and sped up by putting it through different elements. Just some useless trivia, but the "speed of light" can be surpassed.
-
03.24.2010 - 20:54 | PriusYes, but not by anything with mass. Darkness would actualy be faster than the speed of light because it's an instentanious occurence that happens the instant light leaves the area.
