Finally,
It
Seems
Really
Terrific

I fliiping loved this movie. It was as perfect a comeback for the Muppets as I could have wanted.
Jason Segel knew exactly what he was doing in this and made it pitch perfect.

Muppets from Space wasn't *that* bad, but it was disappointing.

I wish i could see it! don't have any money so i'll have to wait. but i love the muppets :) Muppets Treasure Island is my favorite mostly. Tim Curry is Awesome! well in this movie anyway....he was pretty good in Clue as well though. The way he plays of the muppet characters and the Boy in the movie is PRICELESS :)

anywho, i hope i'm able to see the new muppet movie soon and thanx for your reviews. they were awesome too!

I am skeptical on seeing the Muppet movie...
but if I get a Toy Story short out of it, it'll be worth it ^_^

I loved the Money Rap just because it came out of nowhere and meant nothing. That was the funniest part about it. There's not even a lead in. Kermit says his piece, and then Chris Cooper just bursts into rap, and then it ends just as quickly. I thought that was hilarious.

I'm glad to hear you finally saw Muppet Treasure Island. Yeah muppets in space was silly but it was fun.

I found the movie a little gimicky when it came to cameos, and maybe 4th wall jokes have gotten a little typical, but overall i thought the emotional parts of it (that didnt include jason segal, nothing against him, hes just not a muppet) were very affective.

Nice job, but going on the bum review alone it seemed like you had problems with it, but its nice to hear you liked it. Positive stuff is always nice to hear. But yeah i found the solo song and the money rap a little too much.

The Muppets are crazy-nostalgic for me. I'm so glad that they're back! I think I'll have to see this movie at the theater, but it might wait until I'm visiting my family at Christmas and can see it with my 5-year-old niece. (Because, hey, it's fun watching the Muppets with a kid, AND she was obsessed with the Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody clip on YouTube for months. ^_^)

I will try to see this movie at some point!
I liked the 1st 2-3 movies and the tv series and as a little kid I watched the Muppet Babies cartoon!
Yeah, Breaking Dawn won out as number 1 at the box-office but Muppets were number 2 with 29.5 million or something like that! if they do a sequel I hope it's another them traveling movie like the Muppets take London or Tokyo or something of that nature!
A revival of the old series would rock too!
Last Muppet movie that came out I recall seeing trailers for was a direct to DVD Wizard of Oz adaptation!

look at those posters behind doug, like and old school producer, like a Boss
• SpootCaz  - Well...
If you're really interested in Sarah Silverman interacting with some muppet-like characters, I'd suggest Greg the Bunny if you haven't already seen it.

I love the Muppets so, so much.

The Bum's impressions of Kermit & Miss Piggy were spot-on.

Aw, I like "Muppet Treasure Island". But yeah, the Muppet youtube videos are awesome.

Yes... I can't wait to see this! A sequel would be great.

I loved The Muppets movie! I saw it with a friend in the theater yesterday and it was awesome! So was the Toy Story short! Yeah, I loved the "maniacal laugh" joke and the Man or a Muppet song.

"If I'm a muppet, I'm a very manly muppet. If I'm a man, I'm a muppet of a man." Ah! Can't give away any spoilers but I loved seeing Jim Parsons cameo!

I haven't really seen much muppet related stuff since I was a kid (stuff like that Bohemian Rhapsody cover is hilarious though), but this made me interested. I think I'll really go and see it.
• graysongirl1211
You haven't seen Muppets from Space?!?! :o! That's crazy. As a kid of the '90s, Muppets from Space was the first and only muppet movie I ever saw till this one.

I couldn't tell you a thing about what happened in the movie now, but I remember absolutely loving it. :) I would definately recomend it!!

Yeah, the older Muppet movies never really appealed to me (blasphemy, I know), but I liked Muppets From Space, and my sisters and I used to quote it constantly. It's cheesy, but I was a kid. And I count "Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie" among my favorite Christmas traditions.

But I love "The Muppets" like crazy. It's a super sweet movie.

I really loved this movie!

I'm thinking about maybe doing a marathon of reviewing all of the muppet movies. (not just the theatrical ones, the made for tv ones too)

When I first heard about the plot, my first thought that it was more or less the same plot as the Christmas Special with Whoopi Goldberg that came out a few years ago, so I was turned off of it, then I was really turned off when I heard that they were going to make actual human characters into some of the main characters, because I was convinced that they were going to take over the movie.

BUT, this time around, it seems like they're doing it right, and actually made a decent, well thought out movie that they actually put time and effort into.

And I'm really, really, REALLY hoping that if the movie makes enough money and praise that they'll bring back the Muppet Show, because it really looks like that's what they're aiming for.

That's precisely what they're planning on. Disney and the Muppets have tried many times to revive the show, but they always fell flat because they were trying to rely on a name value that no longer existed. There were a lot of old fans, but not enough new. That's why the viral marketing campaign was ingenious. It finally introduced a new generation to these wacky characters as well as got old fans to realize their old friends were just as relevant as ever. The movie is quite literally a pilot for a revival of the Muppet Show and if it does well enough (Lord, I hope it does!), then we'll see a new show very soon.

Now, on some of the other subjects people have brought up...

I liked Muppets from Space. Never understood why others didn't. It was the typical silly, zany material I've come to expect from them.

I also liked the ending of this movie. Yeah, it was interesting to see them take a more mature route, but the entire time I kept thinking "But... But no... Something wacky has to happen to save the day, just like always. That's not how a Muppet story ends." Besides, Gonzo still hadn't thrown the bowling ball yet. It was pretty obvious that it was going to hit Richman in the head.

I would say you didn't mention the Muppet Wizard of OZ, but I am jealous that you have never heard of or saw that train wreck. Thanks for the review, can't wait to see the movie.

I went to see the movie at the AMC midnight premier, and I have to say although the was only maybe 45 people there everyone could not stop going on about how the movie was extremely smart for a kids movie. It was reminiscent to the still of entertainment we grow up with, back when kids shows considered their target audience to be a lot smarter them most people would think. Luck for us their are a few new TV shows that are following that same style and format(e.g My Little Pony:FIM, The Loony Tunes Show, Phinius and Ferb, ECT. Hopefully the dark apocalypse of crappy tweet/vampire love stories and badly done kids TV shows will die off.

I watched this on Thanksgiving night. The audience was constantly laughing from start to finish! Especially one guy who laughed loudly at every musician in-joke the rest of us didn't know about. Added to the experience~!

I hope they make a Broadway musical out of this movie because I would go see that too!

Muppet Treasure Island is my favorite of the Muppet movies. Well, it's kind of a three-way tie between Treasure Island, Caper, and this one.

Awesome review, Doug. My family and I saw this the night before Thanksgiving and it was GREAT. I don't think there was one moment where I didn't have a smile across my face. We saw it in a packed theater and everyone was laughing from start to finish. I can only hope that this is going to lead to more Muppet films or TV shows.

Also, I understand what Doug's saying about the ending. But personally, I thought the ending was very "Muppets". (whatever that means)

Aw man, I hate cop-outs like that!! It's like "oh look, they're about to do something totally original, mature, and send a great message to kids" then........"HAH JUST KIDDING. LOL."

Isn't that kinda of like a giant middle finger to your smarter audience?

It reminds me of this one made-for-TV Nick movie called "Spectacular" that was basically Nick's answer to the HSM atrocities.

But here's the funny thing: It was actually GOOD. In the final scene, you think the kids aren't going to get to put on their performance, they do and are awesome and you're like "typical kid's movie-everybody wins".
BUT THEY DON'T WIN!!
I was shocked.
They don't win the competition but they don't lose their spirit either-they were just like "Eff this, we're just gonna keep trying until we DO win".
It was totally amazing. Because that's real life. Good people don't always win-even if they work really hard for it.
And this was a NICKELODEON-MADE-FOR-TV- LOW-BUDGET MOVIE.
• DeimosMasque  - It's time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show t
I have to agree with Doug here on ever aspect. My wife and I were discussing it yesterday after we saw it and while I was thrilled, amazed, enthralled, etc. There were some parts that made me go, "Eh. Doesn't need to be done."

Doug isn't kidding about the cry moments, as a kid who grew up with the Muppet Show this hit ever single cry moment I had. However, when it got to singing 'Rainbow Connection' with everyone I was done. I was crying for the rest of the movie, just wishing that the Muppets were as important to the current generation of kids as it was to me when I was a kid. Every time I thought I'd stop crying after 'Rainbow Connection' they did something else to make me start all over again.

And yet it was a happy cry. It was sadness mixed with pure joy to see that the Muppets were back in a way they hadn't been since the early 90's. Even as I cried I was smiling, the smiling never left from about ten minutes in.

And yeah, Doug is right in one last point, this is for kids to be introduced to the Muppets... and for us old fans who remember when the Muppet Show was 'the thing' for celebrities to appear on.

I walked in thinking that maybe I'd come out feeling as old as Statler and Waldorf and left feeling as timeless as Big Bird.
