Where I'm from, people are quiet throuout the whole thing.
Except for laughs and and gasps every now and then. And those aren't controllable.

06.22.2010 - 21:31 | Moreno XMan I had a feeling you were going to do a Family Guy reference after Seth "stole" your Star Trek joke....that was nice of you to do that in return for Seth knowing your work.
Aside from that, I'm kinda surprised that you say Toy Story 3 was "dramatic". Uh, okay. I suppose that's one clue as to why Roger Ebert rated Toy Story 3 three stars while Philips and Scott from At The Movies say "See it" (with Philips less fun than Scott had a lot). Nevertheless though, I'm planning to see Toy Story 3 eventually. Great review Doug.

06.22.2010 - 21:41 | Psycho MaestroI absolutely LOVED Toy Story 3!! I love how when I saw it with my girlfriend, the demographic was largely 20 somethings, since it was OUR big movies when we were kids. Certainly, they didn't disappoint, making it one of the darkest films Pixar has ever done.
Also, pretty hilarious review. "I got played with once! ......." :D
Just saw this movie n man, it was fantastic. It was so silent at the ending that I heard many people sobbing, including myself.
I was THIS close to breaking at the end. There were a lot of moments, but just...the ending. Just the ending.
That is where I feel the strength of Toy Story 3 lies; Pixar definitely made it in mind that this movie is as much as for those who grew up watching the first two as much as little kids.

Um, I don't think it was trying to confront those things at all. It was a plot point. I mean, sure, you can look at it that way, but I don't think that was the intention.
When you think about it, the first two were pretty dramatic, too. The first had Buzz with an identity crisis and Woody with an inferiority complex and feeling replaced... And Sid... the second had Jesse feeling abandoned... oh, God, when they did that montage with that Sarah McLachlan song... that was intense.
So yeah, this one had a darker tone throughout, but they were all pretty serious when you get right down to it.
I think that's why they're so good. Pixar doesn't dumb their movies down because they're for kids. Actually, they don't really think of an age group for their movies. They create such strong plots and characterization, and that's what's most important for any story. Seriously, the Toy Story characters are some of the most well developed characters I've seen in cinema, animated or otherwise. They're so realistic and sympathetic. I liked the first Toy Story when I was little, but I enjoyed it more when I got older because I could appreciate things like that better.
Anyway, I didn't get as choked up as I'd hoped I would. I teared up a little at the end, but... the second one REALLY got to me, and I was expecting more of that. It was great, but the second is still my favorite, followed by the first.

06.22.2010 - 22:23 | Not Shelley Duvallokay, after watching this, it's official: i will be the only person in the world who doesn't cry at this movie.
seriously, i don't cry at movies. i didn't cry at "brian's song", and if you don't cry during that, you have no soul.

I saw this movie a few days ago and I agree with almost everyone, if not everyone, here. The movie was astoundingly good, not that I was expecting any less from Pixar. I'll be the first to admit I teared up quite a bit at the end.
I liked this Bum Review a lot. While the whole thing was pretty funny, I think my favorite part was the little Spanish guitar riff you had in there. Great job. :)
-
06.22.2010 - 22:39 | Neo Ultra MikeI didn't full on cry but I did come pretty close, espeically that scene at the incernator, which yeah was pretty dark but that was some damn good drama. I don't think it's out of place though. Toy Story 2 also had some dark spots (as you noted in coolest cliches with Jesse's sad backstory) and hey it really shows how much we care about the characters. Which ultimatley helps make it an outstanding movie. As well as a great Bum review espeically the parts mentioning Glenn Beck, Andy's mid life crisis and college.
To Doug: I know you normally don't do this but do you pleaseeeeeeeee think you could do a Bum review for The Last Airbender and Twilight: Eclipse? Since hey if you aren't into Avatar the Last Airbender even after Mako's sad death maybe the movie will change your mind. You don't have to (obviously) but I just think it'd make for a good review. Still I'm sure you're at least going to do Twilight: Eclipse since you already did a review for the other two movies and those are always good.

06.23.2010 - 22:18 | Jackass Mask
Twiligh: Eclipse...
Edward: I'm still an an emotionless void.
Jacob: I'm still the best written character here. Sadly, that's like winning gold in curling.
Bella:Um...(stares at Edward)
Edward:(Stares in general direction of Bella)
Bella: Still love him...
Volturi: We're still here...DUN DUN DUN!

I'm betting Doug will most likely do those reviews. He always does the biggest movie of the weekend, and those are definitely going to be high contenders. Besides, the poor guy's suffered (and undoubtedly cackled) through Twilight and New Moon, what's one more round of Pretentious-girl and Pussy-pire? lulz X3

Though I can't imagine what the review (or even the movie itself) of Breaking Dawn will be like. If you know anything about the book, you'd know that if they really wanted to be true to the book in the movie they'd need to make it rated NC-17.
I imagine Chester just standing with a deer-in-headlights look on his face :0

06.22.2010 - 22:46 | AninikaWow the oil in Lorenzo's Oil huh? That was a pretty sad movie.
very funny, excellent review
-
06.22.2010 - 23:12 | EbalanceI loved it! (both the movie and the review)
I thought this was the best of the three... in fact they seem to get better each time... Toy Story 4?! Nah... I hope they stop now before it gets obnoxious...
Best thing in the movie was totally the TOTORO!!!!!!!! He was sooooo cute!!!! (I, like John Lasseter, really like Totoro)
So it was great to see him even though he had no lines (he's not a big talker anyway)
Yeah... I gotta say I really liked it.

The only movie I've ever cryed at is Up. Seriously, 5 minutes in and my face was totally wet. I mean, they killed off a character that was meaningful to me in only 5 MINUTES! Toy Story 3 ALMOST got me at the incinerator part, had it not been for the aliens from Pizza Planet. Really, they kinda ruined the moment, but I wouldn't be able to bear the toys dieing without me crying.
You got me once, Pixar, but your not getting me again!

Same here, but more for me at the ending. Aside from that I loved it.
Another classic by Pixar.

Amen. Watching Woody and Co. heading towards the incinerator wasn't all that gut wrenching, you'd think one of them would have an idea on how to get out of that predictament. That is, until Buzz turned to Jessie with that look of dismay. Pixar has definitely gotten darker over the years, and this was probably their darkest stunt yet. I almost leaked when all of them linked hands and waited for their doom. The other part I almost cried at was the ending. Brought back soooooooo many memories.
Curse you Pixar for tugging at my heartstrings with this masterpiece!!! Definitely my favorite Pixar film now.

06.22.2010 - 23:43 | speed demonwow i never cried at all. the ending was bitter sweet but felt like a true ending. The incinerator was dark for a pixar film and filled me with a sense of dread. But the main villain made me laugh with his little toy mafia

I saw this movie twice in two days (11:15pm on opening day, and then the next night) and I cried the first time.. DAMN THAT ENDING.. DAMN YOU ANDY FOR MAKING ME CRY!! I haven't cried in movies in forever and then of all things TOY STORY MAKES ME CRY?! AUGH!
But seriously, this movie had EVERYTHING in it and that's why I loved it so much. And I really hope, for those who haven't seen it yet, that your theatre isn't full of douchey 13 year olds because mine was on the saturday and my friend flipped out on them halfway through the movie.. they really can ruin the experience.
Oh, and spanish Buzz is freaking amazing... that is all
:cheer:

06.23.2010 - 02:02 | NostalgiaMunkI'm 13 and I grew up with the Toy Story films and Toy Story 3 is my new favorite movie. The credits rocked as well. I love the movie and the Bum review. :D

I loved this movie! I think I'll see it a fourth time on Saturday. ; )
