Alright! I really wanted to avoid having to see this movie. I bet it's the greatest!

I knew something was up when that kid looked like that kid from Boondocks ._.

o thought the same damn freakin' thing, i was like, ok, where the hell is huey and his samurai katana?
  • Lyoko-fan
Holy shit, I thought so too.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who thought the kid looked like Riley Freeman. XD Anyway, I saw the movie, and it wasn't half bad. I tried watching the first Karate Kid before, but I couldn't get through it. It was boring... I think the reason they called this new movie The Karate Kid, was to connect it to the old franchise and make more monies. Still, it was a pretty good movie. It was entertaining enough to keep me from getting bored, and Jaden Smith is a pretty good actor.

Great, another Bum Review. I was pretty sure that this movie would be bad because they're remaking yet another classic and the track record for great remakes is small. However, you saw it's good and the reviews I've seen also say it's alright. I'm probably going to look around a bit more and I might go see it.

This review was funny. I especially liked your repeated "Huaaaa!" and the "Wait. Jackie Chan is Jackie Chan!" parts. I wonder what movie you'll do next. I'm going to hazard a guess and say it'll be Toy Story 3. :)

or Last Airbender. He kinda hinted about it in the James Cameron's Avatar review. Or maybe both?

Well, he and Rob have been watching the show, so it's very possible. (Plus, pre-screenings didn't go over so well, so it might be good to make fun of if it hasn't been improved from that :#P.)

Peter Jackson proved that not all remakes are doomed to fail. Whoever directed this movie also... kind of proved that. =D

Sometimes I think the Bum is the best reviewer on the whole site [and that's saying something b/c I love most of u guys].

Rapid pace- to the point- and hillarious. Not to mention adorable.

Why call it Karate Kid if Jaden Smith wouldn't even be taught Karate? A title draw in?

That aside, Doug's view at the end seems to be spot on; I've been hearing that the movie is actually pretty good.

They only called it The Karate Kid for marketing reasons, and it would be less confusing for us viewers too than if they called it something different

People would probably think it's just a cheap knockoff if they called it "The Kung Fu Kid"...I dunno. It sure as hell would at least stretch credibility less.

Still, while I was adamant at first, reception seems to have been good, and I must admit that the trailers made it seem awesome.
The only thing that's keeping me on the fence about going to see it is the 2 hour 20 min running time.
  • Psycho Maestro
Hope to hear an Old vs New with the Karate Kid movies. If not, then hopefully Toy Story 3 for Bum Reviews. Yes please?

    Either way, another funny review.

Huh, the movie is actually decent. Obviously it's called "Karate Kid" in order to bring in box office revenue.

Though I don't see "Coat On, Coat Off" catching on anytime soon.

It's called the Kung Fu Kid in Japan and China ;)

This is a movie I actually want to see just as long as I watch the original first lol :P
  • Jeff Jacobson
According to Wikipedia, its called "Best Kid" in Japan.

Sry Bum but I not really interested in seeing this movie. Thanks for seeing it for me :P

I actually really enjoyed this movie. I love all Jackie Chan movies though. Except the Medallion of course.
  • rudy023

I missed the Medallion, but after the Tuxedo, I couldn't bear to see another Jackie Chan movie for a while. As for this remake, I liked it because while they used similar elements to what the original did, they change it a great deal so that it wasn't a note for note recycling of the 80s version. And the title was obviously used for marketing purposes.
  • diamonte
I know it's the greatest movie you've ever seen in your life, but I don't see how a remake of a classic movie that embodies everything about the 80s (wacky time that they were) can be any good.

While I haven't seen it yet, I like to think of it as a completely different movie with a similar premise and plot.

Man, I need to stop watching these while drinking. Nearly ruined my screen back there!

I was pretty against this movie when I first heard about it, but since then I've softened up a bit. Probably end up going to see it sometime.

I was reeeeeally skeptical about this movie just like most of you. But I went to go see it and was very surprised on how well it was done. This is the best remake I have seen in years and I don't even like remakes! :woohoo:

    Great review Bum. :cheer:

And they actually portrayed China in an accurate, non-racist way :0 :gasp: who thought that was even possible?!?!?!

Why call it Karate Kid if there is no Karate? what is the problem with Kung Fu Kid? They already changed the setting, background and characters, why dont change the title a little bit too if reflects what the film is really about...
  • Foxhack

I've seen other movies with the "Kung Fu Kid" name at cheapy video stores. Maybe they just didn't want to pay royalties in America?

    saw it yesterday
    really good movie
Oh, and its studio title and title in other countries IS "Kung Fu Kid"
  • redmangc
Great now that i know this is a good remake i now have to see this and the A-Team

    wax off = HA!
and no, bum, it is never too soon.

    Ah... A new Bum Review.
    Great!

Loved the 'matrix move', looked awesome! How many takes did that, eeh, take?
  • LordNifty
What I really consider strange is how many times during the trailer that it is directly shown and even mentioned to be kung fu, not karate. Next, a remake of "Kickboxer", which will also be about kung fu. And for "Kung Fu Panda 2"... knitting.
  • 0dd1
    avatar
    "Knit-Fu Panda"?
  • zazakoolaid
This movie still blows donkey balls, no matter what. It missed the point of the original Karate Kid movie.
  • DanMan
It is a good movie. :)

Good review, but a little too soon on the M.J. joke. Not terrible, just give it some more time.
  • PLA
It's a very old joke, though.

I was really surprise on how good the remake is. They do make fun of the fact that the title is called Karate Kid and makes mention about Karate and Kung fu, but it's best to watch the movie and forget what the title to it is. It has some really good emotion bids and personally I think the Cobra kick is much more badass than the Crane kick!
  • Alandree
The Karate kid learns Kung-Fu in China. el oh el. This review made me feel less mad about that though. The Bum is awesome.
