I loved this movie. I admit it. It was as if Dreamworks had made it just for me. I've always been obsessed with dragons, and the idea that Chester will tear apart the movie I now cherish and love just kills me.

Ah well.

Just watched it.

Now I'm sad.
• powermad9
I felt the same way about Avatar, lol...

oh yeah, good god, we wouldn't want to have to like...scroll down a little more and not totally not care about a two charecter post....your finger might jam from all that extra wheel rolling action there.....

Attention whores are the worst. If you're late, you're late. Now fuck off and stop replying to the First post.

Someone should really try to do something about that. But then again, I guess it's just cheaper to post videos on a blog-type page rather than a YouTube-type page.

Poor flaming Benzaie.
• Tophunter
Well, if it's the greatest movie you've seen in your life...

Definitely gonna go see this then...bwahaha?
• Colme  - Nice.

I didn't expect much from this movie based on the trailer... I'm rather tried of the boy and his dragon plot.

Dreamworks needs to throw in the towel. Pixar has such consistent value in their production, and Dreamworks just perpetually disappoints. No offense to Shrek and Ice Age fans, I'm just usually so turned off by any animation this company releases.

Forget Shrek and Ice Age, gimme the Prince of Egypt any day of the week XD

maybe a sign to go back to 2D, yes yes? :3
• Rusted Ramblings
avatar
Actually, I concur on Prince of Egypt and also The Road to El Dorado; those were great flicks. So perhaps 2D is the key. I've honestly been crooning for a 2D resurgence for several years, and I was thrilled to see Disney finally put some real effort into a classically animated feature again with The Princess and the Frog.

In reply to someone's question posted down lower, no, I have not seen this movie. And yes, I am unfairly judging it before giving it an unbiased view. And I do not apologize for it. I have seen Madagascar, Shark Tale, A Bee Movie, Monsters vs Alens, and a slew of garbage Shrek and Ice Age sequels that tell me that I don't need to see this movie. Not in theaters anyway. Dreamworks uses a style that is not akin to my liking usually, and there is a reason that Pixar is always more well-received, both critically and in the box office. I'm aware this isn't the ultimate measure of a production's true value, but it certainly implies that I am not alone in my opinion.

Perhaps it's a bit brash to say that they need to "throw in the towel," but I just typically find myself yawning more than laughing through a Dreamworks piece of animation. All the way back to Antz. Call me a Pixar "fanboy" if you will, but I'll save my movie-going money for more sparkling pieces of work like Ratatoullie, Up, WALL-E and The Incredibles.
• TheEvilYoshiKiller
avatar
This is equivalent to Pixar in every way. The human emotion of Up mixed with the subtle comedy of WALL-E, combined with dragons. A braingasm of awesomeness ensues!
• albinotanuki
Actually, this movie was quite good. It had very nice character and plot development and was quite a relief to see after years of the usual Dreamworks Schtick.
• TheEvilYoshiKiller

AGREED. I wasn't expecting much after Monsters vs Aliens (I'm still gagging from remembering it), however this fulfilled my wildest dreams and went beyond all expectations.
• Lum
Ice Age isn't a Dreamworks movie; it was made Blue Sky.
• Rusted Ramblings
avatar
Ah, I stand corrected on Ice Age--I suppose, to me, it just sort of had that Dreamworks vibe. Pardon my misrepresentation. Either way, I don't care for that one either.

I've hated Pixar since Toy Story 1. I wanted to be a cell animator, I have a right to resent CG. Plus, Pixar has the most dumbass stories.
• Trinity Raven
Ice Age was made by 20th Century Fox, idiot. Just because it's computer animated and sucks doesn't mean it's made by Dreamworks.

The only thing Dreamworks needs to the throw in the towel with is the Shrek series. They should've stopped at 2, and that's being nice.

Imagine seeing Chester in 3d...that would be awesome.
• NoahClue22  - Have to see for one reason...
avatar
The premise didn't really appeal to me, but the fact that it's directed by Chris Sanders and Dean Sorry-Can't-Remember is kind of the defining factor in going to see it. How could you NOT want to see a film from the guys who directed Lilo and Stitch?

But even if it's not as good, at least Chester makes it sound like a bona fide hit. Is there any film that the Bum CAN'T make sound like an epic blockbuster? Answer: no.
• Mos

i wonder if these people bashing the movie have even seen it yet.

• thatgirlinthebrowncoat
The only thing that bugs me about this movie is that it's nothing like the book. (Originally all the vikings had dragons, and Toothless was truly toothless. http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ How_to_train_your_dragon ) Still, epic review!
• Greykitty

Movies based on books rarely follow it even remotely close. But at least we can enjoy the movie for what it is. Great animation, enjoyable story, and good characters. Just don't compare it to the book. :silly:

Oh, wow. Another Avatar dig. Didn't see that one coming at ALL.
• pokemonfanboy1337

I am sorry but you are not being clear. Is the comparison to avatar except intentionally funny mean it is good or bad?
• dan_plaz
avatar
The only difference..... Dragon was an awesome movie while Avatar was... um..... mediocre writting
• Slatefield
avatar
When Doug (or Chester) is saying that HTTYD was "Avatar, except intentionally funny", it's pretty obvious: it was a 3D movie akin to Avatar, except unlike Avatar, HTTYD had elements in it that were meant to be funny, and were; Avatar, on the other hand, was a movie that, while a 3D epic, also had some laugh-out-loud moments where they probably weren't meant to be any.

Thus, Avatar... except intentionally funny. Intentionally is the key word.
• DanMan
I like the Gaga reference.

I guess I should look forward to this movie then.

LOL it was "intentionally funny". I didn't see Avatar, but I still loved your real impression of the film!

And yeah, you basically hit all the plot holes. It was otherwise a great movie!

Hilarious episode! Is it just me or Chester has become even more agitated since he saw Twilight?

-To be honest, I must say I lost faith in 3D animation the day I saw the trailer for "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs". I like wacky humor, but that looked retarded.

--I couldn't help but noticing the strange stroke of unnecessary thumbs down in the comments. Someone got angry for not being first?
• KungFuMan
Cloudy was one of those movies that you had to be forced to watch or be around while it was playing (like I was at work @_@) before you really enjoyed it. Mr. T and Bruce Campbell carried that movie for miles when they were on screen, especially the former.

Now AstroBoy...by comparison that was just embarrassing.
