Yeah well, unfortunately these days Shatner is fat and plays a lawyer, and DeForrest Kelley (1920-1999) is dead.
But hey, Spock was in the new movie! ;-)

How long did it take you to find that clip from ST:TOS? Or did you come across it while watching an old episode and thought to yourself, "That's perfect for a joke."?

Perfect ^^ !
And for me, this reboot was just meh: The story makes no sense, Starfleet made weird choices (like turning a fresh Ensign into a goddamn Captain), the whole connection with the old timeline is bizarre (especially if you consider that in every single case of time travel prior to this movie, the protagonists did everything in their power to return to status quo) and the jokes just didn't really work. At least they had a very good McCoy ^^
Oh, and the "new" old Enterprise looks awful: The interior is a weird mis-match of eye-cancer-inducing iPod designs and a VERY obvious real-life factory. And don't get me started on this nonsensical Narada or Sulu's bullshit folding-Katana (what's next? A friggin' Mobile Suit?)

Talk about ancient history. How many people did the same ffing joke?
Ironically enough, those were entertaining, ST11 was unholy abomination of unprecedented proportions that didn't have a shred of entertainment value.
The new Enterprise was three different ships welded together and the welders hoping for the best! Just look at it; 80s saucer, 50s warp nacelles, and 00s engineering section. It's horrible.

while I didnt like the abrams trek movie (and right after I saw it I spent a great deal of time talking about why in more than 1 forum) this isnt supposed to have any sort of attack on it. Its simply old Kirk commenting on being replaced. Plus this is not new. I did this something like a year ago. I chose it to upload because I think its the funniest 5 second movie Iv done. And one of the funniest done period.

Cute.
Though, thinking about it the other day (shortly after listening to Linkara's sentiment on the series- "it was doing just fine before") it's too bad that Plato's Stepchildren lacked a scene where Kirk says "I guess we weren't sufficiently young, alive, and/or out of retirement."
I mean, really, the old series (and I remain a fan, by the by) was a wonderful setting, cast and presentation. The problem is, it can't really go anywhere anymore. And while, sure, there's novels and media other than film, it started on the screen, and that's where it tends to play best.
Making it go somewhere meant casting a new crew- a move that was bound to break a few eggs. All in all I think Abrams did about as good with it as anyone could be expected to- better, perhaps.

09.07.2011 - 17:57 | nightwingfan87I agree with Kirk's statement. Cause there is a lot in the old series that could've been sped up. Though the new movie did move a little too fast.

09.07.2011 - 20:09 | minor_fifthI adore the reboot beyond all reason, but this made me snort frappuccino out my nose. Well done :)

While I liked the new film, I totally get where Diamanda is coming from. There's nothing like the original Trek.
