I really loved this game, and you gave a great review. The only thing you could have touched upon more would have been the boss battles (though I understand that giving away spoilers is a valid issue). My favorite boss in the game was the giant penguin at the end of the snow world. There are few boss battles more memorable than running around on a tiny, 3D ice planet while trying to hit a giantic penguin on the opposite side with a stick! This really was a top notch game.

To answer the question at the end of the review, this was my most memorable Yoshi game, though Yoshi Story was a close second. Yes, I'm aware that the premise of Yoshi Story was really childish, but it was a memorable game. I loved the subtle nuances between the different colored Yoshis, and earning the black and white Yoshis was also a load of fun.

man the ds game... what a dispointment that was. But yeah Yoshi island is one of my all time favorite games. Fun gameplay and great challanges for the hard core, there are to this day still some level I can not get a 100 on. But yeah great review though I would of gave the music at least an 8, then again I just love the sound track.

Awesome review! I never really got around to ever trying this one and have been wondering about it. Now that I've seen it in action, I'm definitely going to have to check it out smilies/smiley.gif

As for the question, my favorite nostalgic Yoshi game would be Yoshi's Story on the Nintendo 64. Really different type of sidescroller (but similarish to Yoshi's Island smilies/tongue.gif)

My favorite Yoshi game is Yoshi's Story (N64). Which is one of my favorite nostalgic games of my childhood. Definitely underrated.

Yeah I started playing video games with the Sega Genesis(I remember Sonic the Hedgehog) but only played it when i went to my cousins house. I got a PS1 in 1998 and my first game was Crash Bandicoot 2.

I haven't played many older games until 2 years ago by emulator(I cheat)and buying them off people I know(only PS1 games) so know I've played FFIV, FFV, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Punch Out!!!(love this game. BEST FIGHTING GAME EVAR!!!), Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Chrono Cross(or as I like to call it MIND F*** especially the storyline and when you name Serge your after yourself...lol), Metal Gear Solid, and a bunch of others but I'll check Yoshi's Island out.

Favorite Retro Yoshi Game?

Well, the original Yoshi game on the NES I enjoyed, although it was a puzzle game, but it played quite unlike any other Puzzle game I've played prior or since.
Yoshi's Cookie annoyed me. It had an interesting twist on the puzzle mechanic that hasn't been done as well as Yoshi Cookie (the table waiting minigame in spoony's dirty dancing review is actually really close to Yoshi's Cookie). I just didn't care for it.

Yoshi's Island was pro.. My sister claims it as her one video game conquering. She has the game down to a science, and does time runs getting 100 points on each level (including the bonuses). I truly enjoyed the game as well, although I've not put nearly the amount of time into it as she has.

Yoshi's Safari.. it was probably pretty sweet, I just never had a Super Scope, so I don't know for certain, but I've heard some good things.

Yoshi's Story for the N64 was pretty crappy if I remember correctly.

I was a HUGE yoshi fan as a kid. In fact, when I was in elementary school, when everyone else was playing cops and robbers, or bruce li, me and my friends would play Yoshi. Yup. We played Yoshi.

But yeah, Yoshi's Island is where it's at as far as retro Yoshi video games, but I hold my schoolyard makebelieve games over even Yoshi's Island.

I never understood why Baby Mario floated away in a bubble, it seemed so random. For me, Yoshi's Island is my most memorable game mainly cause it was a change of pace for me to play as Yoshi and not Mario like in other games.

I LOVE this game! Yep, that's right, present tense. Because when I got my DS, one of the first things I purchased (after some awesome DS games) was the GBA Yoshi's Island. Then, recently, I bought the DS sequel. Best two Yoshi games I've ever played! smilies/grin.gif

P.s. Good review! I actually didn't play this game on SNES, I played the GBA port (which you didn't mention, tisk tisk) smilies/tongue.gif To me though the sound effects and music bode better on the GBA for logical reasons... I had no idea however that there was a sequel on DS... maybe I should get it.

:3 Good job Danny! Like the hair format btw.

I don't remember this game, unfortunally. But, Baby Mario in the bubble would have drove me up a wall. Dx
And DS remakes are NEVER as good as the originals. Nintendo needs to stop using the touch screen for stuff that it doesn't need to be used for. ESPECALLY if they're making a remake of a really great older game *cough*Diddy Kong Racing*cough*.

Most Memorable Yoshi Game for me was... Yoshi's Story for the N64 (or at least I think that's what it was called). Easiest game ever, but I continusly played that game when I got it. I can't tell you why I liked it so much exactly. I think it was just because it had Yoshi. And I loved Yoshi. xD

I'm trying hard not to sound too negative, but I can't help but strongly agree with Tycho from Penny-Arcade on this one regarding reviews of classic games.

This is Yoshi's Island we're talking about. In my humble opinion, the best 2D platformer there ever was, and you give it 8/10?

There are a couple of points with your review I have issue with:

- You don't mention the boss battles at all. This was a big part of the game, and some of them were amazingly fun and original. The lass boss is one of the most memorable in ANY game I've played, but I think actually showing it would be quite a spoiler.

- "The graphics in this game are advanced, they used the same engine that they did in Donkey Kong Country" - This statement is just unfortunately incorrect. DKC had fully pre-rendered 3D graphics, whereas Yoshi's Island used the Super FX 2 Chip (which is a more powerful version of the chip used in Starwing/Starfox and Stunt Race FX). Yoshi's Island actually pretty famously went with a cartoony crayon style in defiance of Nintendo's wish that the game look like DKC. This information is easily found anywhere that talks about Yoshi's Island, and the fact you don't know it shows you didn't really do much research leading up to the review.

- 8/10 - I've never moaned about a review score before in my life, but seriously, this is too low for a game with legendary classic status like this.

One the upside though, I am glad you gave the music some love (but then gave it a 7? What?)

To answer your question, this game is my favourite retro Yoshi moment, and I'm a little disappointed at the treatment it's gotten in your hands.

Do your homework and then come back.

AND... This is a quick review..not an in-depth, so i skipped the mention of boss battles... as they are a given in any platformer.

But the fuzzy's in the game scarred me for life. I'm still traumatized by the sound they make when you touch them. Seriously I sometimes have nightmares over those friggen cloud balls. I don't find crying Baby Mario annoying at all, in fact it's BEETHOVEN compared to Fuzzy. Whenever I get near the areas they appear in I always mute the sound and sometimes I might not have the guts to actually get in there.

Also to note, I had to keep muting the video in case you were gonna mention them or show some footage of those levels.

To answer the question, my most memorable Yoshi game has to be Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, as well. I got it when I was just a kid and I loved every second of it! Yoshi's Story was fun and Yoshi's Island DS...ehh, it was subpar, but the first one was where it was at. You gave a stellar review, keep it up!
