What I like about MK vs DC is it's bringing something new to the MK franchise with it's new set of fighting mechanics. So that's what I like to see in a crossover: It can't just be an expansion of an already existing franchise, such as Marvel Vs. Capcom compared to Capcom vs SNK, it's got to be new game altogether.
In a way I guess Mario & Sonic wins that because no one ever imagined the two would be paired up in an olympic sports game. On the other hand, this is the game people were waiting a decade for, and it's definetly not what they wanted.

Nice review, Riz. I think the greatest crossover that could ever happen is Final Fantasy vs. Meal Gear. It should be an action RPG with stealth elements in which Solid Snake teams up with Cloud and Vincent to fight Sephiroth and Liquid Snake.

Good video. I actually bought this game for my cousin a couple of months based simply on the fact that it's Super Mario (the greatest video game character ever) and he has really enjoyed it.

As for what video game cross-overs I would like to see, I actually think Pac-Man combined with Super Mario Bros would be an odd, but still interesting idea. The ghosts have joined forces with Bowser and taken over the mushroom kingdom and it's up to Mario and Luigi and Pac-Man to save the day. Naturally, along with the coins and mushrooms for the Mario Brothers, there are Pac-Man's pills and fruits, too. Oh, yeah and Princess Peach and Mrs Pac-Man are kidnapped.

I got a little lipsync problem toward the end of the video. Had the same problem with your introduction video too.

Liked the review all the same. Good to see you're fitting in and getting your style set in stone around here. One thing though, are the presentation and gameplay score shots in the wrong order?

As for the cross overs, Kirby Grand Theft Auto.

First off, very good reiview, and I also found it weird that they were in their costumes the entire game.

Well, yeah... who does not know Blaze or Vector -.- but anyway, there is a cross-over game, which I would really love to play, but maybe never will play. The name of it is Namco x Capcom; a strategy RPG with features most of the heroes from both companies in one awesome adventure ^^

Dude, go get this months ONM (issue 34) and check page twenty-six. New hardware for the wiimote. Its called the MotionPlus.
Though I know that its not compatable with any of the current titles, supposidly it will be able to add a 1:1 motion to the wiimote which would elliminate glitches like a twitch acting as a swing or something like that.

I love crossovers. I also wholeheartedly agree with Killer Instinct vs. Mortal Kombat. Some I think about:

-Streets of Rage/any major 2-D fighting franchise, preferably Street Fighter
-God of War/Devil May Cry
-Tekken/Dead or Alive
-Crash Bandicoot/Spyro...oh, wait.
-Ratchet & Clank/Metroid
-Soul Calibur/Bloody Roar

Mario And Pacman actually DID make a crossover. An Arcade racing machine game was released to a few arcades called Mario Kart Arcade GP. Including Pacman,Ms.Pacman,DigDug Guy, and the red pacman ghost: Blinky.


AND in NBA volume 3 gor the gamecube, Mario,Luigi,and peach are playable characters.

liked the "THATguywiththeglasses" logo on bottom corner. makes an outside viewing this elsewhere think, "just says dot com, with a guy with glasses over it..... THAT GUY WITH THE GLASSES!". and liked the review of this. your thoughts on the mk vs dcu game coming? i personaly think it should of been something more of maybe mk vs streetfighter or tekken, but super heroes? well, that could work, if it was m-rated and a bit dark. but as a teen rated title, im unsure of it. much mixed reactions on it. anyways, yeah, great review on mario and sonic olympics.

you know, one fame i'd like to play would be the ultimate fighting game. a game consisting of the 50 greatest fighters from past fighting games. 10 from each great series of fighting games. mortal kombat vs streetfighter vs tekken vs soul calibour vs virtual fighter. think of how crazy that would be. but, with the way gaming is going these days, i think the newer gaming systems can substain the awesomeness of what would be greatest fighting game of all time. that would be just so insane. the story of the game would of course deal around with ultimate fighter. you know, who is the best. one big ass tournament, with what im sure would be a fantastic storyline from the writers of all 5 titles. hope to see this one day.

Neither Blaze the cat noir Vector the crocodile are odd characters. They have been in a bunch of sonic or sonic-related games. You cant claim they are odd characters and that you never heard of them just because you clearly haven't played a sonic game in the last 10 years. So if I don't know what Wii game I should rent one day, I guess I'll check this one out.

My crossover? Mixing the other two most popular games: Halo and Gears of War. Could you imagine choosing between 3rd or 1st person cameras with Master Chief or Marcus Fenix in a Kingdom Hearts or SSB: Brawl-like story-line?

Great review, I bought this game a while back, its actuly a pritty fun game, but as he said, its a party game, so you need friends and a few cold ones ^^

Now the mashup I would find strange and fun on top of my dome right now would be:

GTA vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Fallout vs Need for Speed
Street Fighter vs Final Fight

Or anything with good gameplay aswell as good and familiar characters :p

My dream pairing? Wouldn't so much be a pairing as it is a mass combination. It would be Anime meets Kingdom Hearts basically... with or without the Disney chars, just something strongly like Kingdom Hearts in the kind of story, mix in a whole bunch of anime, and make sure it isn't dumbed down just so kids could play it. Will it ever happen? No, but it has been my kind of dream game since even before Kingdom Hearts came out.

Any video game cross over? How about Mario and Sonic. Yeah, we have this so called crossover, but it's not really a crossover if you have a simple sports game with Nintendo and Sega characters as game models. I'm talking about a true crossover. I'm talking of each of them interacting in each others world. I guess Super Smash Bros Brawl technically did it, but essentially, they are just fighting each other on various levels. I'm talking about Sonic in Mario worlds and Mario in Sonic world. Maybe somehow they got stuck in each other universe and have to find a way out. Sonic may make easy work of Mario levels while Mario may have a hard time with the loops. But hey imagine a Giant Sonic (mushroom) and Super Mario (Chaos Emeralds). Then Mario versus Robotnik, Sonic vs Bowser. Crazy. Then perhaps they will eventually meet up and have to use each other's skills to defeat the bosses.

Killer Instinct VS MK makes a lot more sense then MK vs DC, and I would love to see a modern version of its fighting system.

Others
Metroid and MegaMan: I can see them earning powerups for bosses in each other games
Zelda and Castlevania?: Maybe, but the CV world sounds too hardcore for Link, but maybe he can take on Dracula's minions.
Contra and Metal Slug: They might be too different in art style to make since, but hey they're both badass platform shooters.

First of all, great job on your review. You generally spent a good amount of time pointing out the goods and bads about the game, and didn't drag on unnecessarily. Granted, I completely disagree with your review (I honestly can't stand this game), but the fact remains that the actual review was well done.

Secondly, favorite mash-up. That's...a toughie.

Ok, I don't think I would ever go so far and be so boring to suggest Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana, so I won't, but...
One set of RPG's I would like to see put together in a Super Smash Bros style fighter are Golden Sun and Odin Sphere. If anybody is reading this (which I highly doubt), and is curious about either series (which I doubt further), Golden Sun (2002/2003) is probably the greatest Gameboy Advance RPG as far as both gameplay and storyline is concerned, and Odin Sphere (2007) is the greatest 2D game ever created within the last 5 years at least, being one of the most beautifully created games featuring an amazing cast of characters, gripping storyline, and phenomenally deep gameplay.

Honestly, I would love to see a match between the fire adept, Garet, and the bringer of death, Oswald.

As far as other mash-ups, I would like to see a specific fighting game mash-up: Guilty Gear vs Melty Blood. That would just be epic.

Well, I would like to say that this was a very good review, but I find it interesting you never heard of Vector or Blaze. Well, I guess in the case of Vector, it might be because Vector has only been in three games that I know of, 1) Knuckles Chaotix for the 32X, but hardly anyone had both the game and the 32X. 2) Sonic Heroes where he was part of Team Chaotix, 3) and in Shadow the Hedgehog where he was an NPC that helped you in certain levels and would always say in that Barney Gumble-like voice "FIND THE COMPUTER ROOM!" And Blaze was introduced in Sonic Rush, which was released in 2005, so she's a recent character, though she's also been in Sonic the Hedgehog (THE 2006 game, not the Genesis original), aka Sonic 2006, Sonic Next-Gen, and Sonic: The Disaster and in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity.

Well, I think the idea of a sports game with Mario and Sonic characters isn't quite a good idea, and a fighting game, in my opinion, would be a much better crossover. But maybe that's because I don't like sports games, and I love fighting games. Actually, a fighing game between Nintendo and Sega franchises would be a good idea. Such as these match-ups...

Fox McCloud vs. Kid Chameleon
Ness vs. Shinobi
Peach vs. Amy Rose (wink wink)
Mario vs. Vectorman
Zelda va. Ristar

Good review man. I don't think I want to buy the game though. You did forget to mention that Sonic did join forces with Mario in Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

We need....Jim Henson's "Super Smash muppets"

basically....smash bros with jim henson's creation

and a story line to it.....muppets from different univerises (sesame street, muppet show, dark crystal, etc.....) ban together to drive back the evil teletubies.

Seriously, even Paul Hogan can't compete with "The Riz". This was a nice review, and I'm glad to see someone not come in and just rip this game apart for no good reason.

But wow, why are so many people angry that he didn't know who Blaze & Vector are? I know them simply because I played Sonic Heroes & Sonic Rush, but had I played neither it's clear I wouldn't know who either of them are. It's not like these characters are famous outside their franchise like Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are. These guys have pretty much existed in games that have been notoriously poorly made, so it's not a surprise that perhaps Aussie hasn't heard of them. At least Daisy has been thrown into every piece of crap Mario Party since Mario Party 12.5 or whatever slapped together version she premiered in. Really people, get off the guys back about this. You say "Do your research" but why would it matter? Did their existance impact the over all storyline of the game? Why would research into two obscure mainsteam (yes, I know there are some really obscure characters too) be done when it really doesn't help the review at all?

Not like the review needed help. This was a nice review, and I feel as though I've got a fairly good grasp on how the game works now. Thank you Riz, and now I must leave.

Hey. Sonic Heroes, whatever, but Sonic Rush was pretty damn good. (Enemy placement was a bitch sometimes, though.)

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both Heroes and Rush, but one can't deny that Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic & The Secret Rings, and the Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 game weren't the best of the Hedgehog franchise.

Did Daisy really start in 3? Wow, I thought it was later than that. I'm completely disappointed that my comment is even more true now.



Oh right! The question! Forgot about it last time, but a Mario X Square Enix franchise would be pretty cool. For the Square Enix side I'd keep it relatively new material, but I like the idea of an angsty lead trying to team up with the most silent cast of characters ever.

"Mario, Bowser and *generic Final Fantasy villain* have kidnapped Princess Peach and *generic Final Fantasy heroine*! What do we do!?"
"Letsa go!"
"Good! What's the plan?"
"Momma mia!"
"What kind of plan is that?"
"HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!"

Really though, it would be an RPG not unlike the past Super Mario RPG, but would feature a bit more intense storyline than Paper Mario's guidelines. It might also be a fanboy wetdream to let you play more of the extended Mario universe and have Yoshi, Luigi, Wario, Donkey Kong (maybe), and other Mushroom Kingdom classics in your party while we let the story oriented Square Enix cast move the plot. Hell, they managed to throw some semblance of a plot together for Subspace Emissary, so imagine what they can do with actual dialogue. Still, Mario's random blips of voice acting would make me laugh.

ya its average. Not a bad review. Then again every game these games with sonic in it tend to be garbage anyway. Its like sega really hates sonic or something it really bothers me. I normally don't bash games till I try it but the sonic unleashed game looks fun when you are regluar sonic but really weird, disturbing, childish and wtf in werehog form. I mean the fighting looks like keep pressing the A button as he fights as Mr. Fantasic with his rubber long arms.

And a cross over, almsot everything has been done to make a quick buck out of two sets of fans. But an awesome one will be a game called Game Legends where its Xbox characters vs. Nintento vs. Playstation.
The play station part may not mean anything now since everything that was good and alive on the PS2 has moved to Xbox 360. I mean Playstation lost Final fantasy that was maybe the only thing left on it.

To answer your question about Vector and Blaze:

Vector is actually quite an old character, where Blaze is not new; but not old either.

Blaze is from the Nintendo DS Sonic Rush games.

I can actually see Pac-Man vs. MK... "Finish Him!" and then everyone turns blue after Pac-Man gets a power pellet and then gnaws the mess out of the MK characters...

Back to Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, I think they should've added more games, especially concerning the "Dream" events. Both Mario and Sonic tend to use power ups of different kinds. I believe this game should've focused on the unrealness of both worlds rather than our reality. In addition, I agree that the Mario characters should've had alternative costumes. The Sonic characters didn't really need them as they're mostly naked anyway.

Vector and Blaze are both from the more recent Sonic games. On the DC/PS2/DS. Hmm... looks like other people have beat me to the punch.
