I didn't care for the second one. It wasn't terrible, but I did feel it leand a little more toward traps and gore over story, and I never quite got invested in the characters. Oh well. I do have to say though that I don't have a problem with Walburg beating the shit out of Jigsaw: Yeah, he had cancer, but come on, the guy kidnapped his son, and and now was making him watch his son DIE! Even if you can't bring yourself to agree with you, you kind of have to understand it.
As for Saw being the start of "torturer porn" well, yeah, it kind of was. Granted, I do think it was better than alot of the knockoffs that came latter (Hostel, Human Centipede, Passion of the Christ) but yeah, it it was the start of the trend.

After watching your Saw videos over and over again Welshy, you've inspired me to give the franchise a second look and download all the movies. I would buy them all if not for a lack of funds so maybe if I get the job at Party City, I'll use my first paycheck for the special edition DVDs.
Also, I'm guessing you listened to or know of that Lost in the Static episode where that "everyone on TGWTG tries to make memes/are always screaming" statement. I'm glad someone brought that up.

I heard it yet yeah and it annoyed me that one of the guys kissed Brads ass. I admit, Brad is awesome but that he was all over Brad as Brad is his friend felt a little too worshipful and that he said "everyone on TGWTG does etc" annoyed the hell out of me because we don't, but to the average person listening in who don't know of the site, they'd hear that commentary and go "Oh, I won't check it out then if it's all the same". So yeah, there was a touch of venom in my comment ;)

Yes, completely understandable! I though it was a bit obvious that he was kissing Brad's ass just because he's a friend and trying to state otherwise is a moot point.
"that he said "everyone on TGWTG does etc" annoyed the hell out of me because we don't, but to the average person listening in who don't know of the site, they'd hear that commentary and go "Oh, I won't check it out then if it's all the same"." - Right and it goes both ways! Because of his generalizing comment, it becomes apparent that he most likely has never bothered watching anyone beyond the people he kept mentioning (Doug, Brad, Noah and Lewis) and if he had, he wouldn't have made that comment. Not to mention it seems he has his definitions of catchphrases and memes mixed up, but that's neither here nor there.
But I digress. I personally don't hold it against you for making your feelings known. :) On another note, I'm glad you finally put up your Saw IV video up on Blip! III and IV have always been my favorite out of the franchise, although until your retrospective, I've always passed them over for one reason or another. And like you, my favorite moments are the ones with Jigsaw and the character interactions rather then the traps themselves. It's what I remember the most from the movies.

09.29.2012 - 08:16 | JtheCoopSaw 2 was easily my favorite. I loved the tarps, the game, and the twist ending. But I really think when looking back the thing I loved the most was that it was a TRUE SEQUEL! A lost art nowadays...

I can't lie, I hated this movie. I just thought it was such a comedown after the first. I DID like the twist ending though, and the Syringe Pit scene is one of my favourite scenes in a movie I don't like (for reasons I won't go into here).
Looking forward to seeing your review on the third one hitting the sites. I've watched it already on Blip, and I have to say, it's my favourite film in the series, and I think you do it justice. Also looking onward to you getting round to doing VI and VII, because I gave up on the series with film five when I realised the continuity had become so dense I no longer had clue one what was going on.

The first Saw movie is my favorite, then 3 and 2 are very close with 3 baaarely edging out 2 because, as Leigh says in his commentary, it's sort of a blend of Saw 1 and 2 - more emotional than 2 but a little faster-paced than 1, which if it has a fault for me it's that after multiple re-watches it can seem a bit slow compared to the next two. After that I have a hard time ordering them since I haven't seen them as often. I'm a big fan of the whole series though. :)
Between your wonderful insight and all the commentaries I've watched (indeed, people, go buy the versions Welshy recommends!) I've gained a deeper appreciation for the series and I'm loving it.

WARNING! shameless shout, for those who get Syfy channel and wish to see the series: On Oct 25, they will show Saw 3-5.
Look it up yourself if you don't believe me.
Anywho, the saw series is interesting in their mental aspect. The fact they have to choose cold logic over emotional responses usualy causes the big problems. Course then again not everyone is a cold hearted bastard.

So you'll point out that the detective is beating up an old man with cancer but defend said man for instigating the deaths of dozens of people? Eric loses all sympathy with being driven by a man that is genuinely evil, just because he's beating up a "defenseless cancer patient" that also happens to be able to slash a guy's throat?

I don't know if you'll read this since it's so far after you posted these but your intro video got me watching the series. I finished the 2nd one just before writing this. On to why I'm posting.
Love the review but I have to disagree about the ending. By having her repeat closing the door along with the final reveal it both provides a conclusive end "Game over" to the movie while still completely opening up potential for a sequel and getting the audience expectant for it.
