I was about to say the exact same thing about bees. I'm glad I checked the comments first. :D

For the song itself though, it's kinda sad that something like this can hold the top spot. It's more annoying than anything else

Im a big old school and underground hip hop person myself. I havent heard any of the old BEP's stuff, but I hear they were actually a good underground hip hop group before fergie came and made them a crappy pop group.

But I havent heard the old stuff myself, as for the new, cant say Im a fan (understatement of course). I do kinda like the the Elephunk era, but that could be due to nostalgia and its the album that brought me to hip hop to begin with

And hey, I gotta admit, I do like "I Gotta Feelin" myself, it is a fun song.

As for this song, i HAAAAATE this song, so THANK YOU for tearing it apart

Hey Todd,
Sonny Moore (aka Skrillex) did a remix of Rock your body. It's pretty good and stands out as its own song than what you just witness
just to let you know. lol
Good review and I hope to see more

Not the "I'ma Bees! AHHHHHH!!!"

Huh, why did that Fergie unplugged part remind me of a FF9 song...

Is it bad that "semen" was the first thing I thought of?
• TheLaughingFish
avatar
No, don't worry - it's the first thing I thought of too. And considering most pop songs nowadays are all about OMGSEX!, that's not necessarily an incorrect conclusion to jump to.
• Bloodrealm
I thought of it, too. But I still was no less surprised when that ACTUALLY TURNED OUT TO BE IT!!

I like a person that stands by what he likes and isn't ashamed, even when people get pissy about it and start trying to tell them what's good and what they should and shouldn't like. This is great stuff though...I mean really great stuff. ToddInTheShadows has quickly become one of my favorites on this site.

I'm with you on that. Heck, I didn't agree with half of both his best AND worst lists (though I agreed more on the worst list :-P), but I didn't want his head for it. (There were quite a few others who respected his opinions as well, but I think that the people who were vocal in their disagreements left enough of an impact.)
• Vinny792  - NO NOT THE BEES, NOT THE BEES, AH IT'S IN MY EYES
I can't really say that the black eyed peas are idots, considering alot of their songs from their first two albums were catchy, had a lot of potential, and were such fun to listen to. As well as speaking with political agenda. But their new Album The E.N.D. is just chock full of crappy techno autotune sounds, which I feel deviates a lot from their original music. Honestly does Every F*cking pop song nowadays have to have autotune? For god sakes just because it sounds cool does not mean it should be used for absolutely f*cking everything. I mean, I got enough listening to that back in the 90's with like the Vengaboys. It seems with the peas new songs such as this one are completely wasting their great capability of being creative and fun to listen.

I actually do know all of the names of the black eyed peas not because I looked it up on the internet, and not because I read it on their albums. I found out simply because the Black Eyed Peas, and especially rappers today, have this reinforcing tendancy to anounce their names in some of their songs. Which is why I know Will.i.am's name is pronounced (Will-eye-am, as in I am). Because he says it that way in the song Like That as well as the other two guys, Taboo: the long haired latino and Apl.de.ap: (Apple-dee-app) The black filipino guy.

P.S. Was that really the acoustic version of my humps. It sounded as if somebody was doing a parody of her, did she really record that?
• The Goth
avatar
No, it was just Fergie's voice put over an acoustic guitar.

An album called The Beginning with cover art featuring the BEP as Mii-style characters.

So they released The End first and then The Beginning, huh. Does that count as a mind screw?
• Bloodrealm
They probably just didn't realize which came first.

The song is retarded and so was the video.

I imagine it takes a bad case of head trauma to think up crap like this.

Seriously...I don't know why but I've seen that whole video(and with that I mean the Black Eyed Peas video not Todd's video)....I actually made myself watch it.

No wait...I do know why...I was so stunned by how dumb it was....I was like "Are they FREAKING serious?!?!?"
But their new Album The E.N.D. is just chock full of crappy techno autotune sounds, which I feel deviates a lot from their original music. Honestly does Every F*cking pop song nowadays have to have autotune?
Well thing with popmusic is....if something gets populair with the crowd or someone does something "original" everyone else has to do the same thing until someone does something "original" again that they can copy.

To be fair I do like some of their earlier work back when they were actually TRYING to make a statement, and I do enjoy two songs off of The End (Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feelin'), but only because they're fun to dance to.

Similar to how I HATE Ke$ha and think she's gross, but I actually really like Blow because it's fun to dance to.
• RiftWolf  - youtube haters
avatar
I wouldn't worry too much about youtube commenters giving you hate for personal choices, it's pretty much the definition of youtube comments.

I'm not a fan of BEP. They've released too many bad songs and I'm not a fan of musicians bragging about how good they are (Although a few rappers have the charisma and talent to pull it off *cough* MC Abdominal *cough*)

I guessed semen almost straight away but then tried to think of a less retarded rhyme.

Good review, I'm really enjoying your stuff :)
• rcivit
I don't need any more evidence to prove that pop music is crap.
• avatar
Well,... Some have said that 'Imma Be', was submitted for consideration to be used for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and was written with the Autobot Bumblebee in mind. I'm sure the fact that Fergie and Josh Duhamel are married to each other had something to do with it as well. My guess would be that all those robots in the clip were intended to be the Autobots from it.
• Tyrranux  - Well since we're doing bee jokes...
avatar
BEES!!! BEES!!! BEES EVERYWHERE!!! THEY'RE HUGE AND THEY'RE STING CRAZY!!! OUR FIREARMS ARE USELESS AGAINST THEM!!! GOD THEY'RE HUGE!!! THEY'RE RIPPING MY FLESH OFF!!!
• Bloodrealm  - More bee jokes?
A deadly bee weapon. Bees. My god.
• Librian
I never heard the complete song before, just the "Imma be" part which I tough was retarded. My first language is French and I learned English throughout my adolescence between school and my beloved internet. I still have some difficulties understanding some jokes related with pop-culture, because, well, I'm not american. But when you asked me to "finish the rhyme" on a song made by the intellectual-peas, I swear, the second I heard "lehman", which I doesn't even know what or who it is, I though of "semen". Whether the Black Eye Peas are that much predictable for someone who doesn't give a fuck about them and pop-music in general, or I'm a silly perv. B)

One way or another, I like your videos. :)
• SpiderSlayr
"Rock That Body" was my favorite song off of the album and "Imma Be" was my least favorite, so overall I guess I thought the mash-up was pretty average. For just the songs themselves, I thought "Imma Be" was stupid and repetitive while "Rock That Body" was fun and extremely catchy.

Another awesome review, Todd. I love watching your new videos on the site and all of your old ones on YouTube. You really are one of if not the best new producer on this site, in my opinion. :D

God that was awful, when did the trend of doing every song with a auto tune began (more like who needs to die because of it  ),
but I think I found the ultimate auto-tune song
titled "Kittens in Auto Tune"
http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=RZaCzVsEn5Y

Great review. :cheer:
• Fairfield
Usually, when Todd plays the songs on the piano in the intro section, he makes them sound decent. Not this time. This time it still sounds like shit. That's not a diss on Todd; it's a diss on the song. It's that bad.
• Vinny792  - re:

Yeah but HOW exactly is Autotune original? I've heard techno songs with pitch change voices and vocoder's before like Eifel 65 and Daft Punk.

There is nothing new or original about autotune except that if it's used on an ordinary speaking voice it'll sound sorta like someone is singing.
• 404tan
Well, it looks like that the Black Eyed Peas haven't heard of a certain series of programs developed by Crypton Future Media called Vocaloid.

Anyway Todd I like your reviews on popular music these day that you hate and I hope for the best for you. :)
• The Main Eventer
You can tell in the from the start of the video when Todd plays the piano that the song is going to suck. Awesome review Todd.
• fjern
I was so close to getting the number correct.. I guessed 104.. Seriously.
