Yes! It's been so long. I was waiting for a new one of these. Strange, this is the first episode of this show where I've never heard the song before.

Whoa, what's with the random power metal cover of the song at the end? Who did that?
  • Jegsimmons

i think it from when Andrew WK was doing songs with them.

Figured as much, it's just that I think of Children of Bodom and think "semi-growled vocals with power metal riffs," instead of just straight power metal.

Thankfully our country has moved on from being a metal country into an indie country. CoB sucks big time.

I always loved this song without a hint of irony or shame. Just my jam, baby!

Yeah, I am with you AngryAnimeAddict, that title made me do a double take when I found out who it was that sang that. I was mostly familiar with Eddie Murphy through his Movie and Comedy show career, so I never knew he at one time made music.

Though now it makes me want to request to Todd that "Superbowl Shuffle" thing as a One Hit Wonderland review. Problem is I can't remember which football team did that.

I can't help but take my eyes off of Rick James with that weird-ass blonde poodle hairdo. Seriously, I know it was the eighties and all but what the hell?

The "Super Bowl Shuffle" was done by the Chicago Bears.

Eddie Murphy Is not the only Hollywood star comedian to make a One Hit Wonder. Sam Kinison right before his death made a son that became a One Hit Wonder too. Even that it was nothing more then a remake of Wild Thing.

Wow I must have been living under a rock, I had no idea Eddie Murphy made any albums much less three.

This song is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's so bad; but it's so damn catchy. Got stuck in my head for awhile. Loved it when it was used in a Ventrilo Harassment video on Youtube awhile back.

My question though is, if someone gave Eddie Murphy a bunch of money, would he perform those albums at a wedding?

That last music video though, I feel so embarrassed for Michael Jackson!

Rick James was right. Cocaine (and crack since it was the 80s) is a hell of a drug! That would explain why Rick helped Eddie on "Party All The Time" or maybe even why Eddie thought it was a good idea.

Is it me, or is "Boogie In Your Butt" a precursor to "What What In The Butt"? And the songs from the "How Could This Be" album are quite the contrast to the stuff that Eddie Murphy is known for. Eddie AND MJ did a song together, too? Wow.
  • Squish

Ah, so you heard 'What What In The Butt' too. Knew it couldn't have just been me hearing things.
  • CyborgPrince
    avatar
Actually, I was going to mention that Boogie in Your Butt sounds similar to What What in the Butt. I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks so. Perhaps Samwell isn't as original as people think.

Three other people immediately think of "What What In The Butt" when they hear "Boogie In Your Butt". Glad I'm not the only one.

First thing that popped in my head hearing Eddie Murphy sing Boogie in Your Butt is Butters from South Park singing "What What in Your Butt"... :D
  • Goat Boy

Okay, next, you gotta do either Don Johnson's "Heartbeat" or Bruce Willis' "Respect Yourself".
  • TheDarkAss  - Wow
Todd, I usually agree with a lot of your videos, but I disagree this time. I still listen to "Party All the Time" though I do agree that the video was lame and the rest of his music sucked. I didn't even know he came up with the precursor to "What What in the Butt".

Not really hearing the Eddie Murphy / Lionel Richie vocal resemblance. Doesn't seem like he's trying to emulate Richie nor does he sound like him. Not saying he sounds good, just don't hear the comparison.
  • PlayMp1
    avatar
He sounds more like Lionel Richie than he does frickin' James Brown. The guy could do spot-on impressions of James Brown and other great artists, and yet he decided the weak little croon would be great for a song entitled Party All the Time.

This is one of those songs that is so gloriously terrible that I love it. If I ever hear it playing, I crank that shit up. Although that doesn't happen often.

I always used to think Eddie did Dancing on the Ceiling, too, because that song's just about as stupid as Party All the Time, but no, that one actually was Lionel Richie. The 80's were just weird like that, I guess.
  • CyborgPrince
    avatar
Meh, I don't think Party All the Time is that bad, though it's not great either. I think it's alright at the most, but still a guilty pleasure to listen to.

I think the problem is that it just doesn't seem like a very Eddie Murphy song, especially the 1980s Murphy. You compare his comedy with the music and it just doesn't seem like the same person. These days it probably wouldn't seem so strange as his comedy style has changed. Too bad his acting career seems to also slowly be heading in the same direction as his music career.

Also, Boogie in Your Butt reminds me of What What (In the Butt) by Samwell.

"Say You, Say Me" - now THAT song SUUUuUuUuUCKED!

"Unce! Tice! Fee Tines A Mady!" - hilarious stuff!
  • Dust
"Love's Alright"... yeah, sounds like a perfect album for a Hey Joe cover...
  • Vercalos
I never heard of Eddy Murphy's singing career until now. To think, I was confused when I saw a VHS tape in a video store of Robin Williams in concert.

Huh... I was not aware that song existed, nor that Eddie ever went into music...

I dunno, I actually really like the chorus for Party All the Time and it's a shame it's wasted on a song otherwise so unremarkable. Although that said, I do still kinda like the song - it's such a generic 80s production all-around that it actually hits that sweet spot of being cheesily enjoyable because it is so dated and so very, very 80s.
  • AlucardsQuest

I don't know if Eddie took voice lessons, but there are worse singers who had top hits in the 80s. Tiffany, Debbie Gibson and New Kids on the Block come to mind. Autotune wouldn't have helped him, (nor does it help anyone else) so please continue to complain about it.

I still can't find it in my heart to hate Party All the Time though. It's oozing 80s synth, has some good melodies, and is catchy in it's infamy. The overall problem with his music career is that he's trying too hard to be serious, just look at the 80s avante guarde album covers of his.
  • Goobian
I heard about this song years ago on a One Hit Wonder show, or Actors that made a hit song or one of those VH1 specials. I kind of like it. I can see it being played in an 80's club at the time. I definitely don't take it seriously and if you didn't know who sang it ahead of time it would surprise you to find out. I think I heard the song before I knew who it was. I would put it on an 80's playlist for sure.

What's wrong with Weird Al's voice? I saw him live, and he sounded pretty good.
  • PlayMp1
    avatar
This is not intended as a slight against Weird Al, but he sounds like a dweeb. Everyone loves Weird Al, but seriously, he has a pretty dorky voice - sort of like the singer for Devo.

If you sound like that, your voice is perfect for satire. It is NOT perfect for a party song.

The only time I ever even heard of this song was in the movie Summer School, when Chainsaw and Dave "sang" a bit of it.

I hadn't heard of this song until now and honestly I don't think it's that bad, I kind of like it. I mean yes it's a generic 80's song, but it's not terrible. There are way worse songs out there especially in the 80's.

On a side note will you do a one hit wonderland of Paris Hilton's song stars are blind?

Oh wow, I have to admit. I've had limited exposure to Eddie Murphy. I've seen him in Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2, The Nutty Professor, and I've heard his voice in the Shrek movies, but that's it. I had no idea he even had a singing career and I'm glad I didn't.
  • Magmabear  - Pops and Clicks...
    Pops and clicks everywhere.

Well, not really. But there were definitely a lot of them within this video. I double checked to see that it wasn't my own speakers and headphones by playing a couple of other songs and watching a couple other reviews, and yes, it's your video that definitely has the pops and clicks.

The most notable parts that pops and clicks come in is during the intro when you're playing the piano. I suspect that the piano rocking back and forth while you're playing (however slightly) is pushing the mic stand back and forth, and thus the microphone and cable against the wall multiple times, thus causing the pops and clicks constantly by shifting the connections back and forth. Or, it might be the cable altogether and you might need to get a new one.

The other most notable part is during the Murphy and Jackson song, where a whole slew of pops and clicks come in at 12:53. This actually happens a lot with most of the songs in this video, and I don't know whether it's because of the age of these songs or if there's something wrong with your audio compression after you've edited the video.

I haven't noticed any pops and clicks from any of your previous videos, so I assume that this video is where something went slightly wrong with the audio recording/compression.

    Funny review nonetheless!
