...second. :(
On a less whiny note, I do wonder how many of these From The Vaults there are left before you get up to the beginning of your TGWTG run. I hope there are a fair few left, as I do greatly enjoy them.
-
01.19.2012 - 01:20 | FishEyenoMikoIf you go to Todd's YouTube channel (ToddInTheShadows), you'll see that there are seven reviews after this (there are eight videos, but the eighth is him talking about moving to TGWTG). Though, actually, some of the vids on YouTube are on TGWTG already (like "Carry Out" and "Sexy Bitch"), to it's really fewer than that.
-
01.19.2012 - 01:22 | DMasterThere are presently two left on his blip account, with three more afterwards, provided he doesn't consider his reviews of "Sexy Bitch" and "Carry Out" as being "From the Vaults"; I personally wouldn't, as they're already on the site.
If you haven't seen the old stuff...I guarantee, you won't believe the last review to go if you haven't heard the song. Stupidest. Rap. EVER.
EDIT: Darn it. As we say on MTGSalvation, sarnath'd!
-
01.19.2012 - 01:41 | FishEyenoMikoHee... sorry...
But, yeah seven vids on YT, minus the two already here, would make five more.
"I guarantee, you won't believe the last review to go if you haven't heard the song. Stupidest. Rap. EVER."
Do you mean "Bed Rock" or "Carry Out"?

I do too. His concert was memorable and he has the most amazing lyrics. But the man can't sing and that is the truth. In the concert nobody recognized Blowing in the Wind until the chorus, beceause understanding him was so hard (and half of hte people there didn't get it until we started signign along). He defenetly doesn't have a great signign voice, but that doesn't make him any less awesome.

01.18.2012 - 23:53 | Nerd 1I almost forgot that there are some good pop songs out there unlike all those other songs on the charts that are just shitting all over music.

This was the first video I ever watched from you. And since I've been completely hooked. Loved this video. Can't wait for your 2011 list.

01.19.2012 - 07:28 | hauntedufoI think this was a very good list. Well, most of the top 10 anyway. Personally, I like things that focus on the good side now and again.
11) 'Live Your Life'
That Numa Numa is called Dragonstea Din Tei by O-Zone. It's one of those awful, tacky sorts of Europop songs that Americans are usually lucky enough to never hear. It was a minor hit here in the UK unfortunately, and I hated it. I thought that YouTube video was stupid, and I found Live Your Life annoying as well.
10) 'Green Light'
This was great! It was one of my favourite 2009 tracks as well.
9) 'Forever' was... alright. 8) 'I Gotta Feeling' was fine. I have nothing against it, but I never loved it.
7) 'Let It Rock'
I'd more or less forgotten about this song, but I loved it back then!
6) 'Hot N Cold'
I remember a lot of people liked this, but I didn't. I have warmed to Katy Perry as a popstar since though. She is kind of guilty pleasure, I like a lot of her songs, but she isn't very likeable herself really.
5) 'Day N Night'
I rather liked this, but it was a slightly different remix of it that was a hit over here. I think I like the US version better actually.
4) 'Meet Me Halfway'
This was a lovely song. It's a nice pop ballad, and I agree Fergie's voice is quite good on this.
3) 'Good Girls Go Bad'
I liked this a lot. Maybe it is because it's "dance music for nerds", although I think Leighton Meester's part of it was my favourite.
2) 'Use Somebody'
I have a lot of love for this song, but it became overplayed, along with 'Sex On Fire'. They were both huge hits in Britain, so it was justified they got played so much I guess.
1) 'Just Dance'
This is a great pop-dance track! I agree that it sums up how nights out can end up, and while it's probably one of Lady Gaga's more 'normal' songs, it's also one of her stronger ones.

Awesome list! Looking forward to seeing your picks for the best of 2011.
I think I Gotta Feeling was so successful because the Black Eyed Peas cleverly made a song that everyone will always want to have playing as they get ready for a night out. Genius! Actually the first time I heard that song I flat out didn't believe it was by the Peas because it was so awesome compared with everything else they had ever released. Of course that was before the abominations of Imma Be and The Time but even then they hadn't released anything that didn't make me go 'meh' when I heard it. Well actually I liked Pump It but that doesn't count because I only liked that they sampled Misirlou.

Todd, I am appalled! I didn't know you had such atrocious taste in music. All the songs in this list are shit. Hearing only one minute of each and any one of them is pure torture to me. I'd rather be whacked with a spiked baseball bat than every having to listen to any of them ever again. No joke.
Hip hop is dead. Pop music is dead. It has all turned into repetitious, overproduced, empty dreck.

In the old days, about 90% of pop music was crap. Now that percentage is closer to 99.9%. Hip hop used to be a good alternative, but now it's all tedious bling-bling bullcrap. Rock music has kicked the bucket a long time ago, to the point where 15-year-olds playing in rock bands tell me they listen to old geezers like AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Where is the new talent those kids can look up to??

New talent that rock musicians can look up to?
Broadway Calls
The Menzingers
Cobra Skulls
The Accelerators
The Apers
Banner Pilot
The Bronx
Comadre
The Copyrights
Death From Above 1979
The Dopamines
Hour of the Wolf
The (International) Noise Conspiracy
Pianos Become the Teeth
Samuel Caldwell's Revenge
Teenage Bottlerocket
Zatopeks
A Wilhelm Scream
Music is far from dead.

honestly, both "Meet me halfway" and "I got a feeling" put me to sleep, they feel just so bland, forgetable and washed-out to me, always have and probably always will.
I agree with some of the other tracks on your list though, especially "Let it rock", "Just dance" and "Live your life".
"Use somebody" was really good imho, but got a bit boring over time, especially the lead singer's emo faces in the video, but I still like it today - to some extent.
I never listened to the original version of "Day 'n' Nite", we got a weird remix over here in good ol' Germany that feels pretty soulless by comparision - would have greatly preferred the original, now that I got a glimpse at both versions.
The rest of your list, well, I got no particular feelings for or against, "Hot and Cold" was ok, the rest never really charted in Germany or I missed it.
In the end, it's always subjective what you like/dislike and what sticks in your mind 2-3 years down the line.

01.20.2012 - 12:40 | TequilaFlavorCould be, US singles often get released later in Germany, so I'm not too sure about that.
What I am sure about is that "Just dance" came out in 2008 and was already a pretty big hit by that year's end, so it's technically not a 2009 song aswell . . .

01.19.2012 - 15:09 | ToMR15:29- To answer your question, Todd: The Killers, Spaceman. Though I must add, a few other songs on their Day & Age album deserve to be higher on the charts. Neon Tiger, Losing Touch and Dustland Fairytale are all better.
Don't get me started on Human. That one baffles me.
