How did you not go directly into a head joke? Also, if you can't chew your beer, it's not. I may be biased by being from PA, but lagers are awesome.
Also, more Fantasy from SciFiGuy, or at least an opinion on the same director doing the Star Trek AND Star Wars movies.

I get the impression Paul and Bennet aren't really beer aficionados. I really get the impression Paul goes for whatever is on tap that is better than a Bud/Miller/Coors, but nothing too crazy as far as crafts or imports, although I bet he's had his share of Natty Boh. Ben seemed to be kinda brain-farty like he knew what he wanted to say, but couldn't place the words. Dunno how much of that was editing though.
Kinda disappointed nobody mentioned what "black lager" MEANS style-wise. The whole roasted malts, like a porter or stout, low malt aroma, maybe some noble hop aroma, medium body, clean flavor no esters, with chocolate, or coffee maltiness, with some residual sweetness.

Why would Paw win the head contest? Because the head on his beer is the smallest? Then I would have to disappoint you. Since it is a german beer, I would apply the german rules for a good head: the glass is supposed to be full (if you order a 0,5 liter beer, the glass has to contain 0,5 liters of beer), but the head is not supposed to be flat but rather high and foamy. The head should even form a little "mountain" but is not supposed to drip down on the side of the glass.
So by these standards Ben wins.
@Hallmackenreuter Yes, it only costs about 0,75€ here in germany, but it is produced here. And you have to admit that it still is a little more expensive than others.

This show needs to happen more often. There's really nothing else like it on this site. And I'd love to see you guys try a horizontal tasting sometime--really get into what makes a certain style of beer unique.
Also, let's see some of the more kooky and out-there styles represented. Oyster stout, rauchbier, the different kinds of sour beer, ANYTHING from Mikkeler--make it happen, Gentlemen!

01.29.2013 - 09:12 | LockenlordWell, they DID photoshop a glass of beer into his hand but apart from that it is maybe the most famous painting of Goethe. I can't blame you guys for the pronunciation though. You got "Köstritzer" about as good as I'd expect somebody who is only remotely familiar with the German language to pronounce it and "Schwarzbier" was actually pretty close.

The sound you made would be an U-umlaut (Ü) (http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ Close_front_rounded_vowel ).
O-umlaut (Ö) instead denotes an Œ sound (http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Open- mid_front_rounded_vowel)

01.30.2013 - 08:50 | colourcodedchaosI'm kinda lucky, because one of my favourite pubs in Canterbury (The New Inn) has this on draught pretty much all year round. Black lagers and black IPAs are a passion of mine, and I hope that Leon gets to try some of the other ones. Buxton Imperial Black is an amazing beer, so if anyone can find any (broke Limey is broke) and ship it to him, please do. =]

01.30.2013 - 17:53 | MisroiI'm with SciFi Guy on this one - I like me a good strong stout. Those smoky, chocolatey, coffee flavors are both figuratively and literally intoxicating!
Also, I had no idea TGWTG had a beer review show. MUST...SEARCH...ARCHIVES. ..!

Its good to see you finally got a German beer SciFi Guy. I made an account just to comment on it. and the fact that it was the first non-american brand and it has 2 of the other TGWTG members that i enjoy oh so much makes all the more a treat for me to watch. I thank you with the bottom of my beer chugging heart, for putting a smile on this face of mine.
Speaking of which: the "ö" in the name is pronounced like an English short "e", but with rounded lips. KESS-tri-tza is probably the closest approximation to how the name is pronounced in German.
