Maybe it's just me, but it sounds kind of like the guitar is off beat by just a tenth between 0:50 and 1:00 - though, the song also sounds deliberately discordant at around 2:00, so that might be intentional. Either way, I actually kind of like this.

:D any chance you'll be posting more music on TGWTG?

I never really heard this song in its originality but I have to say you just such a talented musician Sad Panda. I laughed when Nash didn the "crank the middle finger" scene and I loved seeing all you guys having fun at Magfest :D

    Keep up the good work

It's a good cover. I used to like this song a lot more before it was in Fight Club and every annoying kid jumped on the bandwagon and said "oh thiz iz my favoxrite pixiez songz" despite it being the ONLY Pixies song they've ever heard.

But again, great cover, I really like the off-key sound of the strings and vocal arrangement. It still ends like a Pixies song too, I'd give you an A for effort.

Yeah I happen to like all of those bands too, in fact The Velvet Underground are my favourite band of all time, I still thought your critiq was unjustified and non-constructive! Still though, I give you Kudos for liking decent music.

Joy Division and Sonic Youth were both Pop Bands in their day, it's not Pop that's the problem in music, just modern pop.

On topic: I like Panda's cover, you seem to be criticizing it on the grounds that it sounds different to the original, all good covers deviate from the original composition, it's redundant and boring to make a carbon copy of someone else's song.

ever heard the Pixies cover of Wild Honey Pie by the Beatles or the Breeders cover of Happiness Is A Warm Gun? Both examples of the same thing Sad Panda did with this cover.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of this video. While it is a great cover of the original song, the video really doesn't match it. It's too soft and mellow for the insanity that happened at MagFest. Now, if it was done with clips from Kickassia or something more serious I think it would work better. But hey, that's just me.
  • Whatever_Man
Wow, even James Blunt sounds better than this. You lack quality, dude, and it's not that hard to find some good soft and make your track sound professional, but I understand - you just didn't care about it, right? And you make it sound so boring.

    >Pixies cover of Wild Honey Pie by the Beatles or the >Breeders cover of Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Yeah, those are great covers, mostly because you can feel all the effort that was put into these, and they were not afraid to experiment with original songs.

I still say it's a great cover, and I tend to hate most covers.

    U mad bro?
Also making music "for an audience" instead for myself would be fitting for the term "sellout"
I'd let you check Nickleback and the endless repetition they did of their hit song "this is how you remind me".

p.s: also thank you for realising by yourself you're an asshole, because I never said that.

Also for your information I went to a pixies concert.
it lasted less than an hour,no intermission,no suprises.
A cd player on stage would have been the same. For the price of 50 euros,I thought it was a ripoff,it looked like they made the tour just for themselves.
    Cheers!
  • Creamrose
I loved that, thanks for posting!

Must have sucked. I saw the Pixies in Dublin and they played for nearly 2 hours, was one of the best concerts of my life and I've been to hundreds.
  • The sad panda

They were playing as the the second act before the red hot chili peppers in 2006.
What was your year and where they the main name?
  • octo7

'targeting your audience' = compromising your art, no difference to 'selling out' Real artists make art for art's sake because they've been inspired by an idea; not with the intention of pleasing any particular group of people, other than themselves.
  • The sad panda

First of all even if the boss of warner bros hear my music and tell me it's not good and that will never be into music business,I won't care like I won't about your opinion, coz so far you acted like a schyzophrenic ponce, switching gears off and on and mostly showing rage issues.
I like the pixies, they don't need defending,I'm not trying to change people mind,I wanted to do that cover because I like the song and share it coz there is people that actually like it,whatever my thoughts are.
You on the other hand, are so butthurt right now that you should buy a huge amount of cream.

Also as a last note, despite what people say,the mods on this website are pretty cool about comments, even if they're pointless or harsh,a mod will not delete them as long as it's not really shocking.
But,if a mod step in the comment section, your "you should die" comment will get you a permanent ticket to bansville.
So I hope you'll enjoy your vacation over there while you cry about not being able to scream like a retarded monkey that you are.

    have fun
    -with love

    =)

And I think that's what Sad Panda did here, felt inspired to make a cover of a song he liked, not to tailor-make the song for you, for diehard pixies fans or for anyone in particular. He just did what he felt with no commercial agenda.

I'm not a music person, but it sounded strangely flat? I guess it just wasn't my sort of thing, too bad because I like the original song, but hey at least you guys had fun.

Panda I just saw your reply. I believe it was around 2002. In a huge outdoor venue called Slane Castle, I think it was the second or third gig of their 'reunion tour.' They were supporting the Chilli Peppers at that time too!

I felt like a teenage girl at a Beatles gig in the 60's. I left after 3 Chilli Peppers tracks though, I think all of their shit sounds the same.
  • octo7
    avatar
OK *edit* It was actually 2004 in Phoenix Park Dublin. Every gig I've ever been to is rolled up into one continuous blur, I blame the acid.
  • ColleenRW
I love Pixies, I love this song, I love this cover, and I love your voice, dear Panda :) Nice job!

I love how the pictures go with the song. It conveys a really strong message. I like how you combined the pics and the cover to make a really powerful video. Nicely done, Panda!
