Ooh, glad to see the rest of this interview exists. Very interesting stuff, and I agree with all of it. Been making beats for over 12 years, and rapping for a few years as well, and the thing that got me to go from liking good rap to starting to rap wasn't "rap is cool", but "there's not enough good rap being heard". Well, that and the fact that I was already making beats, and there weren't any rappers around.
Also, good point about the learning an instrument. I find my drum training has helped a lot with what I do.
Hmm . . . apparently the Leone masterpiece has more relevance than I thought.
