That was a great review man and an awesome reference to a great series: Quantum Leap. Oh and I remember Sam almost got the electric chair in one episode and almost gone through because he was beginning to feel guilty and that was a strange twist because technically the series said after he finished his mission he could choose not to go yet.

I had the fortune(misfortune?) of seeing MST3K do this one, so I have actually seen the entire thing.
Most awful movies still have something you can say for them (they were shot by a fertilizer salesman on a hand camera; they were intentionally campy; etc.). This one literally had nothing going for it.
No disrespect either, but guns being fired actually DO look like that. I saw enough of them discharged in Iraq to know. But I supposed that's just splitting hairs. I enjoyed your review overall. B)

07.16.2009 - 23:04 | hossrexIt'd be cool if Mystery Science Theater did this movie!
I mean... it's cool you picked this movie first, because otherwise... what would be the point of riffing on a movie someone else had riffed on.

I think Hobgoblins is probably the only movie to appear on MST3K that I would willingly watch without someone riffing it.

Hobgoblins was, surprisingly enough, filmed on a shoestring budget and only actually given the go-ahead because of the success of Gremlins. The cast have given interviews stating that they had so little money that they had to supply basically all the props and costumes. It's essentially a High School film project that went too far.
The sequel/remake was apparently made just because people still remember the original, mostly due to MST3K, and deliberately aims to be as close to the original plot as possible with a different cast.

07.17.2009 - 00:01 | MalygonAll in all noce, but I think in the scene where the gun is fired you shouldn't have gone for the "lack of gun" effect but rather for the look on his face and the reaction of the thief.

Bad movie. Hilarious review as always. Didn't see that twist at the end. You should have mentioned that movie was bashed and riffed on MST3K in Season 9 of it's Sci-Fi Channel years. Other than that, I wonder how horrible the "next movie" will be. I bet at some point you will have to review Manos: The Hands of Fate. Now that's a horrible one.

07.17.2009 - 02:28 | First Person ShaneOk, recap: Trolls pretending to be people, goblins being called trolls, and hobgoblins ripping off Gremlins. What's next, metrosexual emo kids ripping off vampires? ...oh. right.
