Great vid, as always, but seriously, he's Ed Glaser.

Hey guys, remember that racist Count Duckula cartoon series? Same company. Ooh, but also Legends of Treasure Island; that one was good, & the maid might be Mary Reilly.

Do you mind explaining what was racist about Count Duckula? I tried googling "count duckula racism" but nothing really noteworthy came up :/
  • Dragon_Nexus
    Seriously, this comment needs clarifying.
    What's racist about Count Duckula?
  • Wethewax  - What have you been smoking?
    avatar
"Count Duckula" was made by Cosgrove Hall Films.

"Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde: A Storybook Classic" was made by Burbank Films Australia.

Cosgrove Hall Films and Burbank Films have no affiliation whatsoever.

The only time that "Count Duckula" has been connected with racism is a few years ago when a Youtube channel featured some fan-made redubs of it. The redubs contained highly racist terms and dialogue, and were removed due to a mixture of complaints from viewers, and Cosgrove Hall Films themselves.
  • Dragon_Nexus
On subsiquent watching of this review and further research, no Cosgrove Hall did not make this animation.

It's not listed at all on their Wiki page nor can I find any other links to the animation company with regards to this film.

That's ignoring the more obvious fact that the animation doesn't even match their style.

It was made by Burbank Films in Australia, a rather prolific animation company that churned out several made-for-TV movies a year.
  • Darkling
How was Duckula racist? That was a spin off of Danger Mouse, which was a James Bond parody with animals.
  • Lowcifur  - Confused.
    avatar
    No, seriously, I'm confused:

    Is that guy Ed Glaser?
  • milleniummaster18  - Pfft
    avatar
Of course not. Everyone knows that Ed Glaser is just a mythical being, like Santa Christ.

Well that was odd first time watching this, when it should've hit the title card it went to another commerical and end video to auto play Mac and Me.

...You know strangely enough... I remember this movie from when I was a kid as he went through it I'm like I know this... I think my parents rented it for me...dear lord...
  • 9ansean
Oh wow that happened to me too! Weird
I didn't watch this as a kid, but I do remember it aired on Nickelodeon a couple times along with several other animated adaptations of classic novels produced by the same company. This of course was back when NICK had little in the way of original material and imported most of their animated material from U.K. or Canada (or in this case Australia). Not that we cared at the time since most of us kids didn't even know where those places were on a map.
  • LordNifty
I can remember seeing this movie as well, but on TV. Am I the only one who thinks the Hyde here looks like a Captain Planet villian?
  • Kooshmeister
    avatar
I dunno about that, but I do know that it's a common trend with adaptations to make Hyde a big, brutish monster-like dude as opposed to the nondescript, shortish and frankly fairly normal-looking (but still unsettling in a way no one can quite explain) man described in the book.
  • Greenjackspeaks
that happening repeatedly, and the fact that this site lags my crappy comp out completely without the video running (and actually crashes it with it running), are the two reasons I use adblock. the two minutes I have to wait for blip to play are far less annoying than the half hour per video of waiting for my computer to cool off before I can even hit play.
  • 9ansean
Hilarious! You could see that maid reporting that she saw Seth Brundle rip his ears off and vomit up puss BEFORE fainting from the fright!

Although I had my suspicions form the subtile on this video so I checked and sure enough: this isn't the only animated adaption of this story.
There is also this version http://www.imdb.com/ title/tt1003605/ This version was was HOSTED by a cat!
You remember Captain O(original) G(gangster) Readmore right? Ehhhhh, maybe Not.

(And for all the nitwits out their NO THIS WAS NOT WHAT HIS INITIALS REALLY STOOD FOR)
  • Kooshmeister
    avatar
    I remember Cap'n O.G. Readmore! :)

O.G. and his friend Wordsy (also a cat) end up playing out roles in the story. O.G. becomes Utterson, whilst Wordsy winds up as Jekyll and later Hyde - who insists in a (somewhat) amusing running gag that everyone call him "Eddie."
  • Phelous

That's still an episode of a show, I was just counting actual dedicated animated films of the story and I mentioned they'd appeared in other animations.
  • PaladinDemo
    avatar
    The episode is not there.
  • TheLemsterPju
    avatar
    Welp. The video is gone.

For a second there, I thought Phelous was being Phelous by making a one-minute joke video of him and Ed Glaser talking him out of reviewing the movie, and ends up not reviewing it.

Maybe that was his intent! Well played Phelous, well played.

Pretty dark for a kid's cartoon of an adaptation. The video's intro was wonderful. The ending credits....will Phelous ever let go of the curse of the Pulse films? Probably not. Hilarious review. I didn't know this thing existed.

For some reason the video ended at the title card for me, then just didn't show up. If anyone else has the same problem I recommend just watching it on his site. It worked for me.

    You need to be a-round...

5:45 That goes for some of Man of Steel and Teen Titans GO!'s fans. *sigh* It's sad that we live in a world where people are too uptight about others' opinions, rather than care about their own.

Please don't campare MoS to Teen Titans GO. One is really good and the other is animated nonsense.

That was one of your funniest reviews for a while, I seriously really spit out my dinner laughing at the rape horn joke and was laughing out loud to the point of tears several times ("Did psycho-nan here just perfectly recreate it?" *flailing and evil scream/laugh*).

I had to watch it twice, it's just that funny.
  • SpeedyEric  - SERIOUSLY, I'M ED GLASER. ...=P

The very first adaptation of Jekyll/Hyde I've ever seen as a kid was that one episode of Wishbone.

At least thi movie is a bit better than the NES game, but of course it's not saying much.

I take it Phellous has never seen the Charles Dickens adaptayions made by Burbank Films Australia. They're a great way to introduce kids to literature, but -holy shit- are those animated films BLEAK.

Phelous should also review the early 80s comedy Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again. And don't forget the Men at Work song Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive...
  • FishEyenoMiko

An animated move... intended for kids... with a possible rape scene. Wow. What's next, Disney's "Last House on the Left"?
  • Marvelfan212
Great episode. The rape horn scene cracked me up and the ending sketch was priceless.

    But seriously, Werewolves on Wheels!

Any-one else find it funny how this is Phelous' first animated horror review and then he DOESN'T have a title card by Andrew? XD
  • Youngbountygirl
This is hilarious. I didn't think there could be a cartoon adaptation, but I guess I was wrong. I don't know which is more cornier, the fact this started as a death scene, then an old woman telling a story about how that death came about, or the fact that woman was useless and almost never showed up in the story.
  • TBTabby
It's still a better animated depiction than the one in Pagemaster.
  • Hentai Slayer

OMG, I saw that movie as a kid. It looked creepy as fuck to me then
  • Blizz3112

That movie is hilarious in its pacing... XD
  • Skyfinity
Inappropriate or not, the anxious-cringe face the cat makes when Jekyll announces his partnership with Hyde is absolutely priceless.
  • josbro23
Oh man, you suck...get off this website!!! Dr. Jeklous and Mr. Phyde??!!?? It's not funny!!

Did you just start watching his stuff? He does with practically every title; where the hell have you been?

It's just the stupid name for the review dude, calm the shit down.
  • GendosBastardSon
But Phelous, he has to complain about something you've done in every video. Makes prefect sense. You are the man by the way.
