    Who cares? It's PHELOUS!

I mean, BBB is awesome, but, phekous can do it also.
  • Derpy Hooves
yeah but BBB sucks (sorry just my opinion really hate his work) and phelous is welll.... Hes F***ing Phelous, he has a virtual horror monopoly on the site (well except for Lupa and the occasional Welshey video)
  • rockybalboa211
    avatar
    What about the Cinema Snob?

Also, BBB isn't that bad. I mean, his work is somewhat enjoyable on a cold rainy Sunday/Monday afternoon. Plus, he's also been on a sexy cruise with Welshy according to Sad Panda. I totally believe we have all dreamed at one point or another on going on a sexy beach cruise with Welshy.
  • Derpy Hooves
oh crap i totally blanked on CS, my bad. as for BBB something about him just really rubs me the wrong way. its really hard for me to say i dislike someone's work (seriously with only 2 or 3 exceptions i watch almost every one on the site) but BBB is just really not my style. its great if you like him, i just dont. (also yes it would be awesome to be on a sexy beach cruise with welshy, sadly though i dont think he's gay - i could be wrong though so heres hoping ;D )
  • Bloodrealm
And Cinema Snob, and Diamanda Hagan, and Linkara occasionally does AQLA...

I feel the same way. I liked him at first but once he did a review of a movie I liked(yes the movie is not the best movie and the book is better), I made a comment to see if he was open minded on my comment on youtube(I wasn't mad that he review it just he pointed out things that won't true, ok maybe I went to far on the comments like he was not funny) but he couldn't take it and blocked me. Which is fine but I thought as a so call reviewer he is would be open minded to good or bad comments. But whatever there are others to enjoy.

My opinion is opposite, i love BBB but i dont really like Phelous. his voice just really annoys me, cant stand Lupa either
  • 557deadpool
fuck Lupa, that bitch got spoony fired for no reason
  • The Shamster
    avatar
Lupa did not get Spoony fired; he left on his own terms.

yes, she did not help the situation, but Spoony himself even admitted that he acted foolish on twitter, and later found out that he suffers Bi-Polar.

Check out Spoonys commentary on the first "To Boldly Flee" vid, he spends most of the vid explaining why he acted the way he did and the real reason why he left...which is also partly why Doug stopped the Critic. Something about a stupid copyright law called SOPA, which means if it's passed, ALL online stuff, like youtube, music clips, movie/video game reviews or gameplay will be banned for 'breaching copyright' (it's a stupid, stupid law and one that must never be passed)

So please, dont insult Lupa; becides, she and Spoony sorted this thing out and from what I hear, they are now on speaking terms.
  • Derpy Hooves
actually SOPA got shoot down..... along time ago. like i think its bin almost 6 months. no the issue now is ACTA (basically the same shit but instead of it just being in america, like SOPA was, i would be a conjoined effort between many first world countries ( specifically those in north america and europe)
  • Derpy Hooves
he made a rape joke on twitter about one of the other content producers. thats not nothing thats a big fucking deal

I just hope that the rumored third Halloween movie isn't out by then. Or not made at all. Though I hear Rob Zombie's not going to direct it. Make of that what you will.
  • Derpy Hooves
Welshy. serious question, are you, even a little, maybe possible bi-sexual? ( i know you has GF and stuff but im just wondering if there's even the slightest chance - were talking .0000000001% here - that i might get in your pants)
  • Welshy

    @Derpy Hooves

Sorry, I fall into the straight but comfortable in my sexuality mould. It has been known to confuse people :)

I agree! EVERYONE COPIED ME!!!!! :)

Actually, Welshy, YOU touched upon the "Halloween" remakes before anyone else. "My Problem With Halloween 2 (Rob Zombie)" beat Mike J's video by a few weeks. So, to see you talking about Halloween films next year will bring it all full circle. Have at it.

Also, am I the only one here who LIKES when different reviewers touch upon the same movie every once in a while? All four of you had a different approach, so it was an enjoyable experience for me. My two cents.
  • FishEyenoMiko

"Also, am I the only one here who LIKES when different reviewers touch upon the same movie every once in a while?"

No, you are not. I like it, too.
/is that John Oates from the "Jingle Bell Rock" video?

"Besides, BBB did the remake of Halloween 2. This is the remake of the first Halloween."

    BBB did both, actually.
  • Dark Jak
    avatar
BBB did a review of both. Though personally, i never saw the big deal about two different reviewers taking a look at the same movie. I mean everyone has a different style and thoughts. Why should it matter if someone just did this?
  • ColeYote  - @Ninjawithsunglasses
    avatar
    Yeah.

Have you not heard Sci-Fi Guy's speech on how they don't care about "review dibs"? And frankly I don't either, these are subjective reviews and I personally like hearing several different people's takes on one subject.
  • Omega Kitty
    avatar
Love the traditional anger and snark although I wish he stayed tonally flat for effect more often. Still, great stuff.

Kind of an abrupt ending though.
  • Skullkan6  - Kind of sick of this
I'm kind of sick of people bashing the remake (or as Rob Zombie put it, the "Reimagining") nobody bashed the Nighmare on Elm Street remake or the Friday The 13th remake nearly this hard and really, can you expect a remake or re-imagining to be as good as the movie that started the slasher genre? It's a different type of movie and that's plain and simple. I don't agree that we're supposed to feel sad for Michael in the remake, but instead make him a bit more of a human evil.
  • lordrandyx  - just bad
This movie is so shitty .-. robzombie can make good movies but these movies suuuuck
  • Cagey
They weren't bashed as much because they were at worst mediocre re-tellings of the original stories. The fact that this is a "reimagining", as you put it, is the problem. The original story relied on a very simple but effective and scary origin: a seemingly innocent, fresh-faced, suburban child dawns a clown mask on halloween and murders his sister, suggesting a natural evil, rather than something learned. He then comes back years later to finish the job and kill his baby sister. Zombie took that and turned his origin into white trash central, seemingly giving Myers a bunch of cliche serial killer warning signs and a crappy home life. The effectiveness of it being a kid flies out the window when every person whose done some psych 101 can peg the kid as a psycho-in-training. It also doesn't help that most of the movie is spent on an origin story that doesn't really say much of anything interesting about why Myers is so murderous and the actual remake portions are squeezed into the last half of the movie.
  • Lassope
I would also like to add that the original was just executed with soooo much more class and subtlety. It's masterful in how it sets up the suspense, how it holds on to that suspense, and how it ultimately relies on great camerawork to give you information on the situation and constantly keep you on your toes. The plot can be summed up in a sentence, yet every time I see the movie, it's a plentiful experience.
The remake was just throwing violence and obscenity to your face as much as it could, trying to cover up for the non-existent suspense. It simply didn't have time to "activate the bomb" seeing how it spent the first half telling Michael's childhood story. I figured Rob Zombie was going for "real life horror" with its feverish killing sprees and shitty childhood environments, but it simply isn't as captivating a piece of cinema as the original.

I could probably live with the backstory if the movie as a whole was a bit more than constant shouting and mindless violence, but yeah, it does take that certain something away too.
  • AbsintheMinded
    avatar
Both of those remakes were pretty bad, ANOES being the worse of the two, but Rob Zombie's habit of making every character a complete and total asshole puts it in a special class of horrible remake.

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 is even worse than the first and I didn't think that was possible until I watched it. He completely shit on
every character from the originals. Dr. Loomis, an egotistical fame whore? What?! Laurie Strode, a whiny, skanky hallucinating weirdo? Michael Myers, a homeless, dog eating freak, complete with Rob Zombie beard?!

I need to go lie down now. The memory of these movies is giving me a headache.
  • SeanKelleher98  - Were we you?
    avatar
Everyone hated them just as much except Friday the 13th cause it was, well a perfect Friday the 13th film.
  • EpicFish
    avatar
I'm not. It's a shitty movie that ruins the original. There are a lot of people that prefer the remake because it's gorier, edgy, made by Rob Zombie and the original is boring. Oh and there are people that bashed on the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes, I know I did. The general consensus on those two remakes is that while they are bad, they're not as bad as the Halloween remake. Even though people that did like the remake are the ones that didn't like the inevitable sequel.

"and really, can you expect a remake or re-imagining to be as good as the movie that started the slasher genre?" As for that comment, yes. If the remake is done right, it can have the potential to be as good as, or on the rare occasion, better than the original.

This nitpicking your comment, but technically Halloween wasn't the movie that "started the slasher genre". That honor goes to two different films. Hitchcock's beloved Psycho and the lesser known, but still as good Peeping Tom directed by Michael Powell, both of which came out in 1960. Even Bob Clark's Black Christmas predates Halloween by four years. Halloween is the first movie that had the term "slasher" applied to it and set a standard for all slasher movies to follow.
  • FishEyenoMiko

"If the remake is done right, it can have the potential to be as good as, or on the rare occasion, better than the original."

    The Thing. The Fly.

Great movie, BTW. Anyone who only knows Margot Kidder from the "Superman" movies is in for a surprise. (-:

Indeed! Not to mention she's also in the original Amityville Horror and that can be a surprise to the "Superman" movies fans.
  • Linkara

I did. Joe did. And Phelous did. We all hate the Nightmare remake.

The reason no one harped on the Friday the 13th remake as much is because it's honestly not as bad. It has problems, oh my yes, but compared to Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street's remakes, it was friggin' GOLD.
  • DylanS
    avatar
Any reboots with Michael Bay attached are DOA. Also, I think the Nightmare remake would have been better if Robert Englund played Freddy. I mean, he IS Freddy. That other guy is just trying to be him.
  • FishEyenoMiko
    avatar
"The reason no one harped on the Friday the 13th remake as much is because it's honestly not as bad."

Nor, frankly, was the original as good as either the original "Halloween" or NOES. I was actually excited for the remake precisely because of that (for the record, I thought it was okay. it had some good deaths and some actually interesting twists).
  • WiiStation360
    avatar
Psycho started the slasher genre, not Halloween.
  • ohe
    avatar
So to sum up, people bash on it exactly because their skulls are too thick to take in that whole "reimagining" concept and just default to "remake". They can't internalize that a movie riding on some of the connotations of the franchise called Halloween could have some other purpose than the one they know and love, and thus they deem that the new Halloween fails at fulfilling the purpose of the old Halloween. Which is technically true, but it only matters if you're really, really petty.

For them it's unneccessary but tolerable to basically make the same thing all over again. It was good all along, you see, so no harm done. But putting a new spin to something familiar yanks them right out of their cute little comfort zone when they start to realize that things they thought are permanent end up being pretty flimsy.

It's almost like the fear of death.
  • dennett316
    avatar
No, people bash it because it's poorly written, features ultra-annoying caricatures of characters, is stuffed with cliché, is not scary in any way and changes from re-imagining to clunky homage half way through the film that does nothing BUT remind people of the far superior original film.

If it weren't for the Halloween license, this film would be precisely the same level of shitty slasher that Brad Jones makes fun of every week on his show...except it has decent visuals.

Nobody cares that he did something different so much as that he did that, and executed it really poorly.
  • Goobian
Yes people did bash them hard. People that grew up with the original movie generally hate the thought of them remaking a classic.
  • QuestionTheMajority

As far as I know, all of those remakes were universally hated. Although this one probably gets special treatment because everybody is sick of the "Rob Zombie Formula" as my brother and I call it.

Essentially, Rob Zombie is a sociopathic, narcissistic douchebag who hates rednecks so every movie he makes is a poorly-written fanfiction featuring his own little Mary Sue characters who are all sociopathic, narcissistic douchebags that we're supposed to feel sorry for because they had the horrible curse of having to exist in the same world as rednecks. He goes out of his way to make everyone in his movies seem like worthless wastes of human filth and his "heroes" into misunderstood angels who only want to live life their own way.

The man's work (much like the man himself) is pathetic, unimaginative trash and everything he's ever created is just his impotent whining and squealing about how Bubba and Buford pushed him down and stole his candy when he was in fourth grade. I can only hope he becomes the target of a lunatic like Myers some day so we can all play the "he was white trash, so he deserved it for making life so difficult on that poor, misguided serial killer" card.
  • Mantoku  - Ummmmm
Actually... Most people who are fans of the Nightmare and Friday franchises HATE the remakes of those movies.
  • Sergeant343  - BBB was not the first either
    avatar
MikeJ also did it too, albeit late 2010. I am one of the few who actually like the first remake, for Halloween 4-6 and Resurrection destroyed the series and there was no saving it, either than to start fresh.

Rob Zombie is such a hack.
  • trepiechick
    avatar
Maybe what Zombie was trying to go for was that Michael isn't unique (a.k.a. evil) and that there are lots of people like him, exhibiting the same signs of mental illness, and capable of becoming a psychopath in real life? I pulled that out of my ass, but the thought is more frightening than the movie.
  • ohe
    avatar
I was thinking that maybe it really isn't all about Michael and this version trying to make the audience feel sympathy for him as Phelous put it, but instead the audience is supposed to relate to all the OTHER characters and realize that Michael is an actual, feeling person to them, not to us. To us, he's still the same monster he always was, we know that and that's the point. That even excuses Rob Zombie for making this a Halloween movie and not an original title with a different maniac.

If you think about it that way all the complaints about Michael being manipulatively humanized in this version starts to sound like tthey're overthinking it. By the rule of Hume's guillotine it thus also proves to be the more plausible assumption.
  • dennett316
    avatar
Anyone who relates to any of the characters in that movie either has a high tolerance for really astonishingly terrible people, or has something wrong with them themselves.
  • Rue_Ryuzaki2

As far as I am concern aslong the job is done and that it is made clear about how rob zombie ruined Michael's character I am happy.
Zombie's take on why Myers was the way he was because he needed more hugs in his life.
Is just.. You know what might need just to go Ultimate Rugal on someone because this crap got to stop. It has too.

Good Job Phelous by the way like your ending especially.

Oh Yeah I forgot. Phelous if your going to do this remake's sequel show the clip from Sci-fi channel well SyFy when Rob said that he was trying to make michael more realistic even though he has him lifting a car.. Hey what happen to that poor janitor that Myers killed before he escape who was screaming before he died "Mikey! Mikey!" etc. I laughed when that happened.
  • DylanS
    avatar
Great review, Phelous! Welcome back! I remember how unhappy I was when they decided to screw doing another sequel and instead reboot the franchise. Unfortunately, I think it was owing to the 2005 deaths of Moustapha Akkad and Debra Hill. Akkad's son apparently just let Zombie do whatever the hell he wanted and John Carpenter didn't care either way, and look at the mess he churned out. But as bad as the Halloween remake was, Halloween II (2009) is even WORSE...it made Welshy cry! And a Halloween III is still in developmental hell, and I hope it stays. The ONLY Halloween III has Tom Atkins and a delightful earworm of a commercial jingle!
  • OverratedRiley
To be fair, ANOES and Friday the 13th offered the possibility of bringing new material to their respective stories. There are endless possibilities to the nightmares and F13 is capable of having a story about characters you want to see live (see Jason Lives). I haven't seen the F13 remake, but ANOES completely fucking failed in that and it was an insult to Freddy fans like myself. (PS Phelous did a wonderful review on it).

However the point I'm making is that while there are places you can go with those movies, Halloween as a standalone movie still holds up pretty well since the plot itself is actually pretty basic. The story of a babysitter getting stalked on Halloween night doesn't call for a lot of change or complexity, there's a reason I can watch the original and part 2 every year, because the story is simple but executed so well. And as Phelous said the point is that you don't understand why Michael Myers can just walk away after being shot 6 times. He is just this being and that's horrifying in itself.

But I will say this, at least Rob Zombie's Halloween tried something different with it, if not solely based on a visual perspective. I can have no problem differentiating his Halloween films with the originals. And that I have to give him credit for. Whereas ANOES offered nothing new to the story, it unnecessarily bastardized the origin of Freddy Krueger, completely missed the "Elm Street" purpose of the friggin title, and didn't even try to come up with creative nightmares.

Ok, I normally don't do this, but since Buster's review was only a few days ago n(HE DID IT FIRST, EEESSSOOLLEEE!) I'm just going to repost what I said there.

People either praise Zombie for The Devil's Rejects, or bash him for the Halloweens? Why are people so closed minded: I happen to be of a more compromising nature, and am able to praise Devil's Rejects, AND bash Halloween 1 and 2.

Thing is, as a Halloween remake, this sucks, period! He took everything that made Michael work and killed it. The WORST thing you can do is make Michael human; and he made him not only human, but mundane, stole all mystery from him, all fear from him, and turned him into a seven foot redneck that wanted to fuck his sister! It was the wrong thing for the series. However, I can't completed condemn the movie. If you can ignore and pretend that is has nothing to do with Halloween, while I still can't call it good, the potential for a good movie is there if he had A, not called it Halloween and B, stuck to the premise of the first half of the film, skipping the remake part of it. The idea of relationship between the doctor and the boy could have been good, but they rushed past it too fast to get to the second half. So in closing, it sucked, but it did have potential to be better. The sequel on the other hand, Oh God!

As for this review, pretty funny. I"M NOT LISTING! AAAAWWWWW!!!!!

"I'm also not sure what makes people close minded in the sentence you stated."

It was a joke. It came from Buster's review, where he said people either defend him to the death for Rejects, or bash him over Halloween. Like I said, I basically just copied my comment there, since I didn't feel writing the same thing twice. Maybe that part didn't come off without seeing Buster's review.

"People praise him for the Devil's Rejects? The only person I know who likes that film is a weirdo who desperately tries to model his life after Rob Zombie in every way."

Are you calling me a weirdo, or someone you know?
  • TamLin
Indeed, because as we saw in movies like "The Devils Rejects" and "House of 1000 Corpses," Rob Zombie is simply never willing to cast his wife in any unsympathetic role.

Most people hearing anything about any movie that's a remake/reimagining: WAAAAH!!! IT'S SHIT! IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL!! WAAAH!!!

Then there are people who take things as they are: Hmm... interesting take. It could be a feasible concept if the original didn't do what it did.

So here's a hint to all bashing, GET THE F*CK OVER IT!

    That is all.
  • NJHatter
    After watching vid.

Wow... that "No!" line from the doc.. SUCKED!!!!

Yep, just another "Waah! This movie ain't as good as the original! Waah!" Moment.

Also, Give a villian a reason: 'that reason is stupid!"
    No reason: 'Where's his reason?!'

Also, docs are NOT supposed to be all hugs and kisses all over their pacients. They are SUPPOSED to be detatched.

I could go on and on. But doesn't change the fact of all the people who whine and complain for stupid reasons all suck.
  • EvilAshTwin
Why didnt you give Tyler Mane a shout out as well? He played both adult Michael Myers and Sabertooth in the first X-Men movie......nobody every mentions that.

Also, do I spy a Justin Bieber poster?
