Matt Mercer is actually a friend of mine, and I gotta say, playing this was REALLY awkward for me. I can't really separate his voice from the character, and his face is even modeled after Matt's in this one, so....yeah, this game was basically several hours of watching a close personal friend hack his way through zombies. Kind of awesome. Creepy, but awesome.

10.11.2012 - 22:18 | KasimirCrazy small world... met Matt originally through the karaoke bar I used to go to (which is hopefully reopening soon...) and got a shock when I saw him walking out of the ADR booth at the studio I started working for last year. Also crazy but not unexpected to see Kevin Dorman's name in the credits. He's a mocap actor that's constantly on our stage.
So, you know someone that I know, yay! Or something like that.

Ahhh. Refreshing to see a movie review. I kinda like to see positive reviews peppered in there from time to time.
I dug this film, but I thought it kind of got off to a super slow start. And I really didn't care for JD. But the second half had me really interested and even though it was clear that Leon would live, those tyrants still gave off a very dire and suspenseful vibe.
Over all it was a great way to get me excited for RE6 (I'm one of the few people who actually loves it, it seems). Can't wait to see another one.

10.10.2012 - 22:54 | alex251960Hm, I liked the first movie plenty, so this one's definitely worth a look (coming from someone who's never played the games, of course).

10.11.2012 - 01:25 | VauschYou think you'll review RE6?
We could get lucky and find out the next live action one will be with a whole new cast with new writers and new effects team and actually have something to do with Resident Evil. Give it a story that cleans up the problems with the games (admit it fans, if you try to string together the story it gets kinda stupid). Of course this is also on the same level of luck as a billionaire handing out hundreds tomorrow.
It's odd the CG films are canon too. I mean cross media continuity is quite difficult to pull off, especially with games. At least they're enjoyable. Also this is a stretch but the writers probably expected us to piece together that Leon shot the plagas to kill it, THEN the leader went to the hospital to have it removed. Let's face it, you got to the doctor and say "I have a monster parasite on my spine and I need you to remove it" will likely get you sectioned. "Oh god I've been shot!" is more likely to get you in there.
Thanks for the review.

Man,I remember that way back in 1997 a college buddie kept telling me to play the japanese version of RE. I actually imported the Saturn version (which was pretty inferior graphically to the PSX one) and to this day I cannot believe Capcom America edited that scene where Kenneth's head falls to the ground.
I barely watched RE Degeneration and -just like with RE6 (boy, what a letdown),I think I'm going to pass on this flick and any other CGI RE flicks.

This is probably the best RE movie ever made, that is so sad when you have 7 films, but whatever, deserved a good review so, Thank you very much Phelus.
I enjoy a lot seeing characters who doesn't defend themselves with flashy-matrix martial arts -not always at least-, and the 'Biological Threat plot' in a more regular world looks like a logical exit to the plots after RE2 or RE3 games, Paul W. S. Anderson never think of that? well, is not like I can hope some complex plan from AVP Director.
But I have to say that even if I'd like the new character design on Leon, when I see the movie with my friend we did a lot of Prince of Persia Jokes. It`s probably because that agree, RE animated franchise needs more terror, but when you see the course of action that seem to take the companies involved, make lots of money while you corrupt and destroy everything in your path - I call it 'The Umbrellas/Capcom plan- you can not expect too much.

I find it amusing that I JUST watched this movie yesterday and then jump on today and find your review XD
I will admit that I really enjoyed the movie personally. Way better then the live action ones.
In regards to your comment about the random soldier being infected and Leon doing nothing...I do have to agree I was scratching my head during that scene.
The ONLY theory I could come up with is that he was proving a point to JD. Given they were using the BOWs at the time, he might have been trying to show him first hand what they were doing to people.
However even that is a rather thin excuse when he lets a innocent soldier become infected. I won't deny that seen just seemed really out of place. But overall the movie was pretty solid, and kept me invested till the credits.

14:40 Wait, wasn't the point of the viruses to be used as weapons? Not sarcasm, because I forgot if the T-virus/G-virus/plagas/ etc were failed genetic experiments, failed medical cures or weapon programs.
If they are meant to be used as weapons: Here we finally get to see them used as weapons of war rather than weapons that got loose and kill civilians. This is the payoff to the games in terms of the viruses being used to their full potential.
Great review as always.

Then again, there's the question why you'd ever want to buy something other than Tyrants (preferrable the later models WITHOUT obvious weak points). Pretty much all the other monsters (except for those mutants that are not bulletproof and therefore inferior to a Tyrant anyways) either turn people into zombies or are zombies themselves, and I fear this might get out of control pretty quickly.

10.11.2012 - 20:55 | AkaiGlad to see Leon having a personality again not like the last movie. Doesn't really lead up to RE6, but entertaining nevertheless.
Looking forward to a Resident Phelous for Retribution and have Phelous tear that a new one.

I really loved Damnation, even though there were a lot of flaws... and Ada. :/ It is a very good RE movie, better than all the live action shits and Degeneration, also it sets of RE6 perfectly as RE6 takes place near both in time and location, of Damnation. There were a couple times I told my sister about Damnation that were obviously set up in RE6.
