He didn't respond too nicely to the last guy who suggested that on his blog. Let Phelous do what he wants. I don't hear any of Alison's fans complaining about Phelan being in her videos. The "bossing" is scripted in & redheads are supposed to be bossy. & while we're at it, change your disgustingly inappropriate avatar.

I really like these crossovers and theyd be great ever once in a while. I think one reason though that Lupa's fans dont complain about these crossovers is that when the two are together the reviews always feel more like Lupa-style reviews than Phelous reviews, even when they are ostensibly his. Phelous has a very unique way of reviewing, his own personality, sketches, and motifs that don't get used as much when he is working with Lupa. Not to say they aren't funny, just that they all feel more like a Lupa review with Phelous in it than a Phelous review with Lupa in it. "Meta" jokes and running gags get replaced with "Phelous says something and Lupa gets a reaction." Which is funny, but different, and I think Phelous fans miss a bit of the old stuff, like the Solo Turtles Forever video. Still great crossovers though.

Phelous HAD a very unique way of reviewing. Not anymore. With or without Lupa. Also, this review was cringeworthy. Truly awful, and I'm not exaggerating here.
Phelous has lost it for a long while now. His Turtles review was great, because it felt like it was the Phelous we once knew that reviewed it, but other than that, nope.
Lupa asked what the name of his show was at the beginning. I found one. "Generic internet reviewer #345678547. Phe-who?"

While I still enjoy Phelous' material, I have to agree here. A lot of his more recent videos have really been heavy on the awkward "I'm tired of doing this" humor. Of course, we know it's a joke, but the gags start to feel uncomfortable after a while, as though we're just seeing a very cynical and depressed person who doesn't have a reason to get up in the morning anymore as opposed to a cynical and depressed character, the difference being that we can laugh at a character because we know he's not real while a real person truly feels those emotions. Some of his recent reviews have left me thinking "Phelous... Dude... You've got a lot of pain to work though. You need a hug."

you tell him random girl (i assume that u are a girl because alot of guys are way to perverted to tell someone to take down a hentai photo) this shit has to stop with hentai photos its bloody annoying that people do this on websites that arnt meant for that sort of website if this was a hentai review site it would make sense but its not so fuc you "fatalize" so thnk you for helping n the destruction of over pervs "LikaLaruku"
ps. we allsomewhat enjoy sexy pictures of anime and people but not on a website like ths mean come on is it so important for u to have that pic just tone it down people just tone it down because even i someone who looks at some of that
but there really is nothing wrong with hentai if u keep it private and i think im one of the 20 men who will appose that picture

You guys want to see a usual me by myself video, there's over 100 of them. Some people really like the crossovers, others don't, and some seem to change opinion depending on the time of day.
But I need to do different things once in a while. I seem to recall complaints a bit back of "this is getting too samey" and now it's "OMG WHY ISN'T IT THE SAME!?".
Like always I want to hear if you didn't like a video and such but I'm not going to confine myself to doing the same thing over and over. It'd get boring for me and boring for you.

Phelous, you'll always find people who like your stuff and others who dislike it. That's the internet. Can't escape it.
However, I will say this.
You WERE truly unique, and I don't know about the others, but I never thought it was becoming too samey. That's why I loved you, for your unique sense of humor. You made me think of Bill Murray in a sense, and EVERYBODY loves Bill Murray.
Not anymore. And I'm not blaming Lupa. If your videos with Lupa are different, fine. That's ok. But even your solo reviews are different now, with the exception of, perhaps, the last Turtles review. That's why I feel like you just became generic.
:/

@Phelous
Huh? The complaint is that you are repeating yourself by letting Lupa boss you around. You're NOT doing something different. You're doing the same thing that already doesn't work.
Not that I'd ever noticed it before this review. But I did start to find it annoying here. It's starting to make Lupa look bad.
-
03.02.2012 - 04:00 | LimeGreenSquid
Yah, the Lupa being bossy thing was cute for a few jokes, but if it's going to continue, then you shouldn't do so many collaborations.
But if you guys stop with the "whipped" theme, i'd love to see you guys continue doing reviews together! As you 2 are a couple of my favourites on the site.
And you made a couple mistakes (maybe the second one was intentional - not actually cutting out the cut-out punch), the first being not hearing what the guy said when you guys responded to being asked to go to a dance.
And the pacing wasn't as flowy, you needed tighter scene cuts.
But again, if you guys maybe don't try so hard to be goofy, and naturally review things how you naturally speak, i would really enjoy more reviews featuring you both.

03.02.2012 - 09:30 | QuestionTheMajority
I personally get a kick out of the chemistry they have. Phelous' cynicism can sometimes be overwhelming (as evidenced by the amount of complaints he gets regarding the self-referential nature of his videos) and Lupa's verbally slapping the sense into him now and then is a breath of fresh air in the midst of his groaning.
Don't think that means I don't find him funny. I think he's hilarious! It's just that his character lends itself easily to the straightman/stooge dynamic that he and Lupa have and they both play it up well.

So keep em comin' xD

I enjoy them separate, but I also enjoy them together, so I'm pretty happy all around. Though it is very goofy humor, so I'm not surprised it's an acquired or specific taste.
I imagine that you either really like it or downright dislike it (in other words, it's not a type a humor you're likely to be undecided about).

Shucks, Lika. I guess I wasn't aware I'm not allowed to share my opinions. I'm just sayin' his quality has taken a dive ever since Lupa started brandishing the whip and it is a bit disappointing. It also seems way out of character for me.
At any rate, I'm glad you liked my avatar. It was uploaded a while back which means one of the site admins approved it.

Please Phelous, stop doing crossovers with Lupa. Yes, we get it, you like her. Now could you get back on doing your own show. I have started to skip past your episodes because I just don't think you are funny together. Separately you both have a good unique style, but your crossovers are always painful to watch.
-
03.01.2012 - 04:45 | Spritle101
Aw, you just miss watching Phelous kill himself. Seeing as Lupa lives in the US & Phelous lives in Canada...Well, if you're going across the boarder you might as well stay there awhile, & if you both review the same kinds of movies for a living & happen to be under the same roof, you might as well do crossovers.
-
03.01.2012 - 04:55 | HurrDurr
Spritle101, who gives a shit that samus was sexualized in that avatar. Men like women, men are going to draw women looking sexy, women do the exact same thing to men as well.
I don't see any problem with this lol.
Also I agree with everyone, Phelous needs to go back to doing reviews by himself. And why is there a god damn ad only 6mins into the movie, are you really that desperate for money guys?

I'm gay myself - and I agree with you, HurrDurr... and my sexuality has nothing to do with it - it was mostly so that zeo1fan won't use that excuse again.
People of different strokes finds different things attractive and sexy - and there's nothing wrong with showing that. What's the big deal of one person showing off Samus' ass in her spandex? It's NOT offensive!

I am sorry for saying this as I respect both of these reviewers; but this crossover was annoying and awful. You're both acting too childish - I know it's the intension, but it's not funny! You're both literally acting like immature kids here who wanted to do a silly review of this. And you two getting annoyed and tired of each other all the time... yeah, that made myself annoyed and tired of watching this.
And this comes from a guy who didn't mind your last crossover too much... although, that one was very very forgettable and bland.
My point is - this isn't funny. This is how a small child THINKS something is funny when they make a video review. And I do know you both can be more mature than this, and I don't care if you continue doing these reviews or not with each other as it's up to you - but this review really WAS awful to me. I apologize if I upset anyone for this, but I want to share my opinion about it.

It's a matter of taste. You don't like the particular style of comedy they had in this video, but I absolutely LOVED it. I think these two do goofy, self-referential humor really well in this.
But I'm glad you expressed your opinion the way you did. It seems like we need to remind people that the comments are a place to share our individual opinions, not to insult the video makers' integrity, or insult the insulters.

Anywayz, awesome review as always and i just knew that this movie was next on the chopping block to be thrashed by Phelous :)
its pretty bad but in a way i like the remake more than the original this time so that's something....I guess...I don't know...
-
A cunnilingus joke?!How dare you?!!Children watch these reviews!!
Seriously though, nice one you guys. And that part where you black box a nipple on a ripped open chest is unintentional comedy gold.
-
It's actually a little sad, too, as that's the way Blip's censorship rules go. Bennett the Sage pointed it out in one of his reviews, something along the lines of "I have to censor a pair of boobs but I can show a guy's thumbnail getting graphically pried off just fine?" Really thinking about it, it is pretty funny in a "WTFIWWY?!" kind of way.
-
03.02.2012 - 08:18 | Daemian LuciferI always did say that censorship is weird, because it first shows kids how to kill each other, and then how to reproduce.Ive learned to just accept and laugh at that weirdness though.
-
03.01.2012 - 08:46 | BaronGrackleHa! When Obscurus Lupa said, "DON'T EXPLAIN THE JOKE"... she was totally explaining the joke! Because, because, explaining the joke is something Phelous often does for humor, get it? Get it? Ha ha! :-D
-

I'm kinda split here. I agree with some of the complainers here that the whole "Lupa/Phelous" crossover thing is getting old. Yes we get it, you guys are dating and your really happy together. Move on to better material please.
However I do enjoy these crossovers when they work and this one does work. The two have great chemistry together, and honestly if they actually move on to different material it'll be really funny.

Okay, I am really, really, REALLY sorry, PHelous, but your reviews are often hit or miss, and this comes off as a miss because you and Lupa are far, FAR too annoying in your presentation of the jokes, your cuddliness and in the fact that LUPA KEEPS BOSSING YOUR CHARACTER AROUND, WHICH ISN'T FUNNY AFTER THE FIRST TEN TIMES. It really took away from the review and makes this feel weak. I'm sorry, but that's just the truth.

If that is what the movie is going for, I think they take it too literally. I believe when DID patients describe that, they mean like watching someone do it from a POV shot, rather than a completely different angle than is physically possible. In that scene, hes quite a distance away, and his viewpoint is perpendicular to the perceived killer's (i.e. it would be impossible to see the victims back if he's actually standing in front of them).
-
03.01.2012 - 10:52 | dascottjr
Arizona and Canada are pretty far from each other, are they not? Do you really expect Phelan to do solo reviews while he's visiting her? And are the people who don't like Lupa bossing him around the same ones who miss when Phelous was getting killed all the time? XD Also, this review illustrated the differences between the two films well. I like how Lupa stopped Phelous from his Big Jurassic Octopus Moment(TM), and made him review the film's actual ending.
-
I'm not sure if I find it funny or annoying that nobody ever says which province Phelous is from, instead just saying "Canada." I don't think I've ever heard anyone say which, so I really have no idea.
On a different note, I don't think people would mind Phelous not dying all the time if he himself didn't bring it up in half his videos since he stopped that (not to badmouth him, but it's true).
Lupa bossing him around and taking over his lines can be funny, I believe, but I just think people are actually getting upset because it isn't quite meshing together with the review itself, instead taking breaks from it to do so. With a little practice, I think it can work well, as well as perhaps becoming a running gag with the Phelous and Lupa characters.
I do agree with some of you that it is a little bothering both reviewers' running gags are a bit ignored, as I'm a big fan of running gags.
One more thing, dascottjr is right, crossovers are born out of opportunity. They're in the same place at the moment, so obviously they're going to cross over. That's why we get so many crossovers whenever many TGWTG reviewers are at a big con all at once.

It hurts me to say this, but I liked you better when your comedy didn't consist of having Lupa boss you around so much whenever she has a cameo. (Which has been PRETTY often.)
Lose the chains.
