05.11.2011 - 20:35 | TatterdemalionWhat bothered me most out of everything is that the guy who seemed to be trying to kill the talking goat acted like he was trying to chop its head off with a knife rather than, you know, slitting its throat. Or using something that could believably chop off a goat's head.

Ok, I liked the movie, first of all, but everyone has there own opinion. But I do have to say one thing: All the people that are saying that she deserved it just for killing the cat, you are hypocritcs, each and every one of you! You know that you would do the exact same thing, the EXACT SAME THING! Hey, I don't believe in hurting anything needlessly, but if I had a choice between being horrible murdered, and burning in hell forever, OR, killing a cat (not a person, mind you, a FUCKING CAT!) Garfield would be dead!
Also, they kill a goat in this movie, but nobody seems upset about that. What, goats have it coming? Is it because cats are cute, and ugly deserves to die? Who did the goat hurt? Sure, they eat garbage, but that's just recycling, he's enviromentally friendly, LET HIM LIVE! So goats suck, but cats are sacered (what is this, Egypt?)
Go ahead, call me an asshole all you want, (I'm sure you will) be deep down you know you'd do the same thing.
Love
Axel Osbourne.

05.13.2011 - 03:30 | AardyI second that.
Cat lovers sure are scarry people. Look at a cat the wrong way and you deserve eternal torment. Thats harsh.

Yeah, when I REALLY get my jacket button cursed by a crazy Russian woman who didn't get a third bank extension, I'll be able to tell you what is REALISTIC to do in that situation.

I hope this was sarcasm, because if not, this is the stupidest thing I've read here.
Really? You think someone killing an ANIMAL to save their own life makes them evil? And they deserve to "go to hell" in a literal sense? Wow.

i think that is so heartless but i can understand the choice she made but she just did on a whim also the kitten was adorable and the part with the goat is not as bad but,my grandpa had a pet goat and it was so sweet i feel sorta bad for the girl on the end

Hmmm...Drag Me To Hell
I like to think of this movie's alternate title. "Let's see how much nasty crap we can put in this girl's mouth before the movie ends."

-
05.11.2011 - 21:12 | Piano IslandSame here. I love this movie, despite its shortcomings. And I agree on the ending -- from the moment she gave the coin to her boyfriend it was obvious what would happen.
I do wish that there was an alternate ending where Justin Long's character was taken instead of her.

To me, "Drag Me to Hell" is a throw-back to the campy horror films of the seventies and eighties, and I love the film for it.
The constant-ingestion-of- nasty-things theme running through the movie is supposed to be a reference to Christine's eating disorder; in fact, Sam Raimi said that the whole movie is basically an allegory for Christine having an eating disorder.
-
05.11.2011 - 22:09 | RhomegaI can see the allegory, but where does the ending fit in?

I always thought of the old lady not as an old lady getting justified revenge, but an evil self-entitled monster worthy of hate like Jason or Leatherface. You would not kill someone for making you lose your house, much less kill and damn them. Especially since for all she knew the boss was the one who rejected her loan. I always wonder what evil monster lady gave to the previous guy(s) who gave her the first 2 extensions (though she was such a self-entitled bitch it was probably just a "thanks, bye").

Oh come on, Phelous! Drag Me to Hell is a masterpiece! It's sort of like one of those tributes to the old classic cheesy horror/comedy genre films just like Sam Raimi's Evil Dead movies.
To tell you the truth, I'd prefer to watch this rather than all those other shitty horrors that have been released today.

05.11.2011 - 21:44 | LordNiftyEver wonder how many professional reviewers give good reviews to movies rather than admit they were confused by a contrived piece of crap? That would explain the positive reviews for this movie, but it is probably for the exploitation of anti-bank sentiments as well. Probably.
-
05.11.2011 - 22:12 | Hatchet90You're funny, and what's confusing about this movie? It's about as complex as a spook house at the county fair, and that is what is so great about it.

Quite frankly the moment she hurt that kitten I was cheering for her to be dragged to hell in the most brutal way possible.
Stuff like this is pretty much why I don't watch modern horror films all too often.
The sound was off for me, too, but it wasn't intolerable and after a minute I became used to it.

Anyone who can't find the comedy or flat out fun that this movie offers is no good friend of mine. I've always felt that the best horror movies are the ones that have an inkling of comedy.
-
Honestly, this movie felt more like a director trying to replicate the magic of the Evil Dead Trilogy and failing.
It's like they put two different scripts together and shot it. Because the attempts at Evil Dead-style humor seemed out of place with the rest of the movie.
And considering the director, that only makes it all the sadder.
Should have just called it Jump Scare! The Motion Picture, and been done with it.
Not to mention that these kinds of 'twist endings' are so damn overused it'd be an ACTUAL twist not to have one at all.

Actually this movie kept reminding me of a much better movie, the 1957 film Night of the Demon except that one had a more interesting story, better acting, didn't have any ridiculous jump scares, and had an ending with a similar concept but this one had a suspenseful build up and a more satisfying resolution. Phelous, if you haven't seen it, I highly reccomend watching that to wash down the bitter after taste of this movie.

"It's not over until the fat lady jumpscares" and "oh no,now I'll never find my Standing Liberty quarter ;_;" got legitimate laughs out of me.
The funny part is,I always get annoyed whenever I read comments like "I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THIS MOVIE BUT NOW I WATCHED YOUR REVIEW AND I TOTALLY AGREE HOW MUCH IT SUCKS HERP DERP",but man, this is kinda one of those cases. I enjoyed the fuck out of this flick, but looking back at it,it really is "Jump Scare: The Movie".
Also,I like how Phelous D1 is too awesome to die at the end of his reviews. :3

I usually like your reviews Phelous, but you were really unfair about this movie. Yes, I agree there were WAY too many jump scares, but the movie is meant to be kinda dumb. I wasn't able to see the ending coming, and I thought I paid close attention to the movie.
But you don't have to enjoy this movie. I can see why some wouldn't enjoy it. Just be a little bit more fair in your future reviews next time.

05.12.2011 - 04:42 | YeahnoMeant to be dumb or not, it's still dumb.
And that's why it sucks. I don't think anything needs to be said.
Except that you can't just say Phelous isn't "fair" just because his opinion doesn't match yours.
I thought this movie was stupid when I saw it. And his review seemed completely fair to me. Don't cry so much.
-
05.12.2011 - 08:24 | executor
Heh. He was much more fair here than with the "Resident Evil" reviews and can it be, that you are just angered by the fact, that Phelous makes fun about the completly non-thinking-audience that didn't see that ending coming? You know, about the audience you were a part of? X-D
For me, I'm 100% percent agreeing with Phelous here, even if I wouldn't be so generous at the end, cause this stupid-obvious "twist" (I really don't think that it was one, cause it was pretty much spelled out in slow-mo for the audience twenty minutes before happening) at the end was the most insulting "hey, nobody expected this, right?!?" bullshit I've seen in the last few years. Specially the twenty minutes of nothing at the end while waiting for the big "reveal" was just painfull.
Ok, "Dead Snow" pretty much had the exact same ending with the cold coin, that one of the girls puts in her boyfriends pockets at the beginning, but even there it didn't came of as so overly stupid.
-

Wow making fun of others. Thats mature.
-
05.12.2011 - 15:07 | D.C
You haven't seemed to have figured it out, that Phelous and many other people at Channel Awesome aren't exactly "fair".
Making a movie that just expectedly tosses jump scares at you isn't real horror. If you want true horror, you need something like The Shining or Psycho, something that actually builds suspense and holds an atmosphere akin to true despair. And as the movie shows, the girl was doomed ever since she dropped the envelope, it was obvious.

So, like... You do realize this isn't supposed to be a gut wrenching, soul crushing horror movie, right? It's in the vein of Evil Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Fright Night, etc. Horror themed comedy is not a new thing, people should seem shocked by it at this point. Far too often do people just miss the point. Not calling Phelous out, just people in general. Going into a movie that exists to be cheesy and saying "this isn't scary!" is completely missing the point.

-
05.13.2011 - 12:46 | SpecterM91
Yes, I do, and I can even spell it correctly. But do you have any idea what "horror-comedy" means? Because it's not an earned title, it's a genre. It doesn't matter if you don't like it, it's an established genre and no amount of moaning about a lack of scares of laughs will morph the genre into something else. It's like claiming certain movies aren't comedies because they didn't make you laugh. Don't like the movie? Awesome, do your thing. But knocking points from this particular movie because it wasn't scary when it wasn't really trying to be scary is just dim. I swear, if Evil Dead 2 had come out this year, half you people would be damning it like you are Drag Me to Hell; Over the top acting? Comedy? A vague plot? Pointless jump scares? All there.
