It turns out that the director intentionally wanted the movie to be this way. He goes to the film showing's all the time, and jokes about the movie.(I don't get that same creepy feeling from him as I do Tommy Wiseau, and his "intentional" dark comedy)
This movie is often called, "The best worst movie" ever made! :D
It's like on that South Park episode were the kids are trying to lose at baseball so they don't have to play it during the summer, but then they encounter a team who has actually been practicing at being bad so that they won't have to play during the summer. This director has practiced hard core! :)
-
03.10.2011 - 15:18 | HichcootYeah I have heard that it was made bad on purpose too... So I think that reviewing this is like picking a easy target...
I know what people are going to say ´´ he did the review for the sake of making something funny`` yeah but its not the same when the movie literally is trying to be bad!

I doubt that. Well, to be precise, I do not doubt the director *claims*´this was intentional, I merely believe he is lying through his teeth. I think the more believable scenario is that he made this dungpile of a movie and proudly went to his "masterpiece's" first showing, but when the audience started to groan in agony and utter disbelief he made a social sacing throw by pretending, "Uh, yeah, this movie was MEANT to be that bad. Ahahaha. Funny, right?"
Sorry, no. Because an *intentionally* bad movie made for the sake of satire should be so-bad-it's-hilarious. This film is not. It can't even decide if it wants to be a boring love story or a lame horror movie.
A good satire requires a lot of skill... skill that is sorely lacking here. This movie is so ineptly made, the acting so bad, the sound editing and the cuts so horrible, the story and pacing nonexistant, it's because whoever made this lacks ANY filmmaking talent or instinct whatsoever. He just pointed a camera at some people who couldn't act if their lives depended on it. Pretending otherwise is just an excuse. >:-(

I dont' know Phel, I think I wouldn't mind hearing you rant for 40mins. It's far more entertaining than these movies are on their own. Speaking of which, wtf was this movie about? Killer birds? It seemed like a "romantic comedy" or something. I put that in quotes... for a good reason.
So remember to vote for Phel to direct the next Zombie movie.
AND SO I RAAAAAAAAAAAAN
I RAN SO FAR AWAAAAAAAY
I JUST RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN
I RAN ALL NIGHT AND DAAAAAAAAAAAAY

-
03.09.2011 - 20:42 | TheListenerCanonWow! This movie was soooooo bad, it had to be cut down into 2. I think this maybe my favorite from your reviews. Can't wait for part 2 which I'm sure will be better...and that's saying a lot!

03.09.2011 - 21:48 | 4-D CThe most horrifying thing about this movie is that the creator actually claims that it was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s: The Birds. No, just no. This whole movie was shot on video so the competency level of production is actually far below that of a guy with two VCRs because that’s probably a good guess as to what they used to edit this piece of schlock. However that doesn’t even come close to explaining the sound cuts. What the hell did they use for that, an 80’s boom-box with a tape deck next to the TV?

2:56- o_O ...And i thought it couldn't get any worse that "Five Across the Eyes."
I wonder if Rod is actually being played by a T-800.
Dear lord, I've seen Batman fan films online that are better edited, better acted, and have better stories than this. And I made a couple of short movies in college that are better executed.
I've seen the business meeting scene on "The Soup."
Looking forward for Part 2.

Birdemic has officially surpassed The Room as "Most Hilariously Bad Film Ever", and we haven't even gotten to the birds yet!
Great review Phelous. I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the BS Computers line or that one guy in an office chair in the boardroom.
Seriously, I could make a better movie than Birdemic and I don't even own a CAMERA.
-
03.10.2011 - 05:01 | SockpuppetI'd probably want to see the whole thing before i made that statement, but yeah, it definitely looks like a contender. The acting and technicals in THE ROOM are actually much better than anything seen in this, and at least THE ROOM didn't have so much extraneous padding!

Well Birdemic certainly shares the same woeful levels of incompitance as Manos, and the driving scenes here certainly brought back memories of that film's particular pain.
"So, once again it's Manos...The Hands of Fate."
P.S. At times during the review, I found myself really distracted by Natalie's uncanny resemblance my cousin's girlfriend. It was actually kind of creepy.
-
03.10.2011 - 05:03 | SockpuppetYour cousin is a lucky man. Natalie is the ONE thing worth watching in this movie.

Birdemic Part 1 in 3 words: COOL. STORY. BRO.
WHY did Attack of the Show think it was necessary to keep covering this crap when it was first released?! This could only be planned out to be so shitty. I will give it that it looks hilariously bad, making it watchable if only to laugh at.
I'm SO glad they kept in all those driving and walking scenes to make sure we don't forget how to.......what were they doing again? It was so complicated! I'd probably know more about how magnets work than whatever they were doing! Did they go to a craft and cucumber fair?! IT'S SO DIFFICULT TO RECALL!........
......................... .................
......................... ...............
..........oh, sorry, I forgot to end my comment.

Not to defend this movie, but in the bedroom scene I'm fairly sure Wooden Rod said that she looked "divine" - not fine. Though I don't blame you for mishearing that since literally every single second of the audio that we've heard has been outright terrible.
I don't have any film experience whatsoever, but holy hell could I have edited this a lot better than that. There's just absolutely no sense of flow or pace, and basically the entire movie up to your cutoff for this part seemed to be entirely pointless. There is just so much wrong with each and every frame of this movie it's amazing that the film wasn't just torched to save everyone involved in the project the embarrassment of being associated with this garbage.

-
03.10.2011 - 05:08 | SockpuppetIt wasn't ENTIRELY pointless-- We did get the clumsy, ham-fisted environmental foreshadowing jammed down our throats, just barely, amongst all the padding and half-assed "character development... Something which could have been accomplished in about 2 minutes with a montage during the credits.

03.17.2011 - 14:45 | wretchuYou will certainly have no argument from me on that point, good sir. You could've put an actual wooden block on the screen (and maybe even put some .gif googly eyes on it) and would've still gotten more emotion than you get from Rod.

03.10.2011 - 03:28 | TroodonIf I had to guess I think they're setting up some heavy handed environmental message where whatever's happening with the birds is somehow out fault. Not the fault of these characters that obviously care about the environment though.
I loved the announcement of the car race with celebrities driving the cars. Um yeah, those things happen all the time right? (Not counting car drivers that are celebrities BECAUSE cars.) Not heard of such a thing since Ironman 2, and it was made clear that wasn't considered the norm.

I've heard so much about this movie and thought it was in the "SyFy" original movie category. But WOW! this makes The Room look coherent and full of life. I swear the entire cast must be robots. Also I seriously thought the newscaster lady was a cgi animation.
At least we got exploding birds to look forward to in part 2!
-
03.10.2011 - 05:11 | SockpuppetHonest to god, I don't think even SyFy would accept this steaming pile of cinematic feces.
-
03.10.2011 - 06:53 | 4-D CIt was actually turned away at the Sundance Film Festival (which is why I know anything about this movie). If nothing else, that is an accomplishment.

Anyway, I rarely comment on...just about anything on the internet (personal preference) but I just wanted to say that you seem to be the most consistently funny actor on this site, theres always at least one good joke in your videos.
Keep up the fantastic work and I can't wait for part 2!

I have to agree. I know Phelous has many fans, but i still think he's one of the more underrated reviewers here. His vocal impression of Tommy Wiseau was the best - he actually did the "cheep cheep" part right, and nobody else did, which kinda pissed me off about whatever episode that one was... NC? OL?
Sure, maybe he's a big, clumsy-looking dork, but most of us have a really good, big, clumsy geek friend, or are one, and they usually seem to be good people. And who here watching these reviews ISN'T some form of dork, i mean come on? *raises hand* Just saying, Phelous is definitely one of my faves.

03.09.2011 - 23:02 | GundamMiester1This review was great and I can understand your pain. Just watching the clips you showed in this review made me want to skip right to the fucking gif exploding birds. I really don't know how you can sit through this shit. The dialog is fucking stupid and delivered poorly. Tons upon tons of unnecessary scenes and really really shitty editing. I can only imagine what the rest of the movie is like.

"Woah! Where was all this energy when you were filming Birdemic, Rod?"
I was short of breath laughing through this entire video, but when you said that at the end, I almost killed myself laughing.
Seriously, a driving montage? That didn't work in "Manos: The Hands of Fate." It sure as hell isn't going to fly here(Pun definitely intended.).

Well, we've reached killer birds. We're inching closer to a review about a movie involving insects. Maybe someone will make a Beedemic movie, inspired by this piece of pigeon excrement.
Yeah, thoughts:
- Where are you filming, Phelous? I miss your background full of nerd paraphernalia.
- When I first heard of this movie, I thought "This has to be a spoof." Surely something like this couldn't have been made seriously. Then again, I thought the same thing of "The Room."
Actually, based on what I've seen so far, I agree with other commenters that "The Room" is better. I never thought I'd be saying that.
- Honestly, I'll take GIF birds over these "characters" any day of the week. They're far more animated.
Part 2... bring it on.
Great video Phelous can't wait for Part 2! :D
